Please say that you will make future games for PS3 aswell as PS4, i don't want to waste my money on a console that cant read previous generations like the PS3. It seems we are no longer progressing through technology..

That said, they mentioned being able to download the games, so I doubt they would re-work the whole PS3 library to run on PS4 if the processor was the issue. It could be just an excuse to get you to buy all your games again on the new platform. On backwards compatibility for the PS3, I have the PS3 Slim and it does play PS1 disks, don't think I've tried any PS2s yet. I didn't think it would after Sony said they'd removed the function, but hey I'm not complaining! |
Sony has said that some (but only some!) PS3 games will be ported to the PS4. The main factor deciding which one will be whether they maxed out the hardware, as that'll make it more difficult to emulate.

Im sticking to my trusty ps3... Anyway if companies started releasing games only for ps4 they would be a bit retarded, as the ps4 will be pretty much unaffordable for at least 3 years, hence more people will own a ps3 than a ps4..
The PS3 is probably going to do the same thing the PS2 did. It's going to continue to be produced for many years to come and games will still come out on it for some time. Eventually the PS4 will kick off, but people will still be buying new PS3s up until they stop making them.

It wouldn't be a very smart business move for them to drop the PS3 shortly after the PS4s release. I doubt it would be around for as long as the PS2 was, but the PS3s lifespan is far from over.
It will get supported about as much as the GameCube did after Wii release. It will exist but next to no one will care.
Well yeah. That's how most console releases work. The PS4 is bound to be stupidly expensive upon release like the PS3 was, and since it's a new console that will only have a handful of games out for some time more people would probably drop the money on the previous gen console still in production with a much wider selection of games. It's going to be awhile before people start transitioning over to the PS4.
It depends, the PS4 will probably be as expensive as the PS3 was but I can't imagine they'd make it cost much more unless they are reducing production of initial units even more than they did back in 2007.
Hey, you should totally check out my post in the PS4 thread in Non-Oddworld Gaming.
Also the PS3 was stupidly expensive and didn't it cost more to make it than they were selling it for as it was or something so they were losing money and it took them forever that to stop being a thing |
Yeah, but I think that's true of a lot of consoles, they lose money selling the console but then make it all back again with the games. Don't quote me though because I have no idea where I remember that potential factoid from.
Well it makes sense. I just remember Sony getting hit particularly hard with the PS3. At least, hard enough for them to make some what of a fuss about it.
Yeah, they lost a tonne of money due to how expensive the PS3 was to make. They made it back shortly afterwards, though.
Let's keep this thread to discussion specifically about JAW/Oddworld on the PS4 and leave the general console discussion to the thread in NOG.

:
JAW confirmed that the new games they are working on are multiplatform, so don't worry there. |
Really? They never made it back? Shit
The PS3 has been profitable since late 2008. Whether it's been profitable enough to cover the costs of R&D and the first two years of its lifecycle, I don't know. But given it's been more than four years since then, I'd suggest it's likely.
No.

I'm hoping JAW, if developing for the PS4, is also looking to develop for the new Xbox (when it gets announced).
That likely depends on if Microsoft alters their certification process for the new Xbox.
I'd have a major geekgasm if an Oddworld game came to the PS4
Ummmm....why?

Don’t forget that other indie developers have also had bad experiences with Microsoft – Jonathan Blow and Phil Fish, for example. I imagine JAW will be very unenthusiastic with publishing on Xbox unless Microsoft goes out of its way to woo developers. |
