What about violence?

Bullet Magnet 09-16-2012 09:40 AM

Violence is not the correct response to words.

Varrok 09-16-2012 09:43 AM

Oh, I see now

I know, but what is the correct response to violence?

Varrok 09-16-2012 12:53 PM

If there was a 100% correct response to violence, there probably wouldn't be any violence anymore. Violence is not the correct action, for the start

Loud words.

MeechMunchie 09-16-2012 01:01 PM

What if they puncture your lungs?

Manco 09-16-2012 01:03 PM

Loud exhalation.

Bullet Magnet 09-16-2012 01:55 PM

Use the minimum amount of force required to protect yourself. As a last resort, since there are probably smarter ways to do it if you have the sense to figure them out.

As the Doctor said, "violence doesn't end violence. It extends it."

Varrok 09-16-2012 01:57 PM

Unless you kill everything

Or as someone who isn’t fictional once said:
:

Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars... Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.

Wings of Fire 09-16-2012 02:48 PM

Or from another dead black guy:

:

38 ¶ Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:

39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also.
41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

Bullet Magnet 09-16-2012 03:09 PM

No one is touching my cloke.

When you move to Libya, you'll need to know the correct response to violence. Until then, you can rest easy and stick with words.

What the fuck? Jacob?

That's my contribution.

STM 09-17-2012 08:33 AM

What about peace through war? A hypothetical war to end all wars, what about that?

MeechMunchie 09-17-2012 08:49 AM

To end all conflict, a war would have to wipe out the entire human race. I think that's probably something we want to avoid.

Bullet Magnet 09-17-2012 09:18 AM

Probably.

Actually, now that I think about it...

STM 09-17-2012 11:09 AM

Oh no. BM is thinking again.

Bullet Magnet 09-17-2012 12:42 PM

I'm founding the Involuntary Human Extinction Movement. Come to think of it, we're all working towards that already.

Mac Sirloin 09-17-2012 01:24 PM

I don't know what it is but it's awful and I hate it and the reaction to it and everything is terrible.

Varrok 09-17-2012 01:33 PM

I like it. Count me in

This was my exact thought process when I saw this thread. He was the dude who did the "Should ugly people procreate" thread, right?

On topic: I've never truly understood why Muslims get so angry and zealous when someone critiques or satirises their religion. I haven't heard of any recent angry Christians do something this extreme and they get it in the neck constantly from the likes of Richard Dawkins and the like.

Yeah apart from the one who killed 77 people, mostly minors, last year.

Everything is terrible.

the Islam is a much younger religion than Christianity. also do you seriously believe that every culture and religion develops at the same speed?

Bullet Magnet 09-17-2012 03:43 PM

It used to be better. There was a 300 year period in which Baghdad was the cultural centre of the world.

No but Islam is REALLLY taking its sweet time.

Nate 09-17-2012 04:03 PM

It took Christianity 2000 years to get to this point. Islam is currently at the point that Christianity was 500-1000 years ago.

Basically, the crusades.

If such comparisons actually work. Sikhism is only 500-600 ears old, and it's not especially violent.

No, but I saw the mathematics. Algebra, algorithms, numerals. And the names of the stars.
