We got Yvon of the Yukon in the UK for a while. It wasn't that bad.

Angela Anaconda can fuck right off though.

Jesus Christ that voice.

Mega Babies

Was that the one where their baby brother is evil and four giant babies getting closer to Earth were shown at the end of every episode?

MeechMunchie 07-14-2012 03:17 PM

No, that was BB3B.

I worked that out by Wiki'ing Bis, a rubbish pop band who used to cameo on it.

Phylum 07-14-2012 05:54 PM

I used to love a cartoon called Brandy and Mr Whiskers when I was 7. I have fond memories of waking my dad up at 6:30 to watch it with me in the six weeks he was at home after his heart attack.

I saw it again a few years later and thought it was shit.

Also, I remember BB3B. I used to think it was dumb, but my dad enjoyed it so I ended up watching quite a bit of it.

moxco 07-14-2012 09:36 PM

People tend to remember cartoons from their childhood with fairly thick nostalgia goggles. Myself included. The other day my friends and I were trying to remember all the children's programs on the ABC from around the turn of the century.

Do any of our Australian members remember this? Those cabbage wings apparently cause thousands of epileptic seizures.

It was pretty terrible. You don't recognize it for how terrible it truly is when you're a kid though.

My father was head of construction on that movie. That movie paid off our mortgage. That movie is good.

Phylum 07-14-2012 10:47 PM

I loved that when I was 3/4. When I saw the name I remembered the music instantly.

oooo ninny poo~

I used to love Angela Anaconda. However, I know for sure most of my feelings towards it are nostalgia, unlike Courage the Cowardly Dog or Dexter's Lab, which I could enjoy regardless of whether or not they give me fond childhood memories.

Nepsotic 07-15-2012 05:01 AM

Tom and Jerry, Jesus looking back at how violent it was, I'm surprised they even aired most of them.

We got a lot of awful home grown garbage, friend. Off the top of my head:
Yakkity Yak
Yvonne of the Yukon
the one with birds playing baseball I dunno
Mega Babies (God DAMN it)
Angela Anaconda
Ned's Newt?
etc...

I miss The Weekenders and Fillmore! Those shows were the shit.

I used to love Angela Anaconda and Mega Babies, man. But I guess I was young and stupid then.

Now, Johnny Bravo. That was a good show. Same with Weekenders and Recess. Probablywere probably the only shows I watched on Family channel, other than Dave the Barbarian but that got old really fast.

Strike Witch 07-15-2012 04:31 PM

Angela Anaconda was so weird. She like had those crazy revenge fantasies and it felt like she could snap at any time.

Mr. Bungle 07-15-2012 07:54 PM

The animation was pretty weird, too. I never thought it was a bad show, though.

Mac Sirloin 07-16-2012 11:02 AM

At one point or another I loved every show on that list except for the bird baseball one and Yakkity Yak. Yakkity Yak was fucking trash and even I knew it at 11.

Who remembers Whatever Happened to Robot Jones?

I remember this show piloting like 3 times before they showed more than 2 episodes in a row over the course of a few years. I remember really disliking it for some reason, but I still watched it a lot. The opening is pretty egregious. The art has a Recess-reminiscent 'everyone is fucking hideous' style, but it's still pretty energetic. I really wanted a toy version of him and his parents, but the show was 8 flavours of failure.

OANST 07-16-2012 11:13 AM

The first season of Robot Jones is really great. It was a big steaming pile of shit after they changed his voice.

Mr. Bungle 07-16-2012 11:56 AM

I remember it existing, and being a show, but I have no recollection of actually watching it.

Anyone remember Pingu? I bet Mac does. that show scared the piss outta me once.

OANST 07-16-2012 12:14 PM

Great. You mentioned Pingu. Now Oddjob is never going to shut up about it. That's like his version of ponies.

Varrok 07-16-2012 12:15 PM

Hey, how about we DON'T have Pingu avatar trend?

Mr. Bungle 07-16-2012 12:23 PM

What? Pingu's the shit.

OddjobAbe 07-16-2012 12:29 PM

I can't remember doing more than briefly mentioning Pingu after watching some with my nephew or something like that. I must have dementia or something.

Mac Sirloin 07-16-2012 12:31 PM

I'd have to get .gif privileges so mine could be Pingu pissing all over his house. Otherwise no dice.

I remember nothing but a single scene of the show itself, but I do remember being completely obsessed with it. I loved me some Bucky O'hare.

Also Captain Star

I watched this when I was 9-12 because nobody else liked it and it let me have the space to myself. It's a pretty great show, but I didn't really get it when I was a kid.

Laser 07-16-2012 12:35 PM

Filmore was amazing. So many references to awesome films

MeechMunchie 07-16-2012 03:17 PM

I only had one Pingu video, so I've seen the same five episodes about twenty times.

There's one where he has to look after someone's egg; a scary one where his mum gets trapped in a snowdrift; one where he meets Robby the Seal; one where he tries to go skiing; and another scary one where he loses his little sister in the middle of the Antarctic wilderness.

Bullet Magnet 07-16-2012 11:57 PM

I have that video.

This. Without the text-to-speech style voiced, it immediately lost all of it's appeal. Amazing how the quality of a show in it's entirety can be hinged on such a seemingly insignificant nugget of originality. Once it was gone, the show was worthless.

Loved the "Schoolhouse Rock" style artwork in it though. The style was retrograded so perfectly, you would have trouble believing it was a show produced in the late 90's.

I remember this promo fondly

Mr.Spandexpants 07-18-2012 02:10 AM

I fondly remember Pingu from when I was little. I loved the one where Pingu and his friend argue about building an igloo. I think it was the building montages. That was back when I was addicted to Lego. On topic, I love Tom and Jerry, and have distant memories of Wacky Races, Johnny Bravo and a bunch of other cartoons that I watched on cartoon network.

Phylum 07-18-2012 02:39 AM

This episode is somewhat notorious for scaring hundreds of young children. By the time I was old enough to remember Pingu they'd stopped airing it.

This was my one of my nephew's favourites.

Yep, that's the one that scared the piss out of me as a kid. That walrus is downright disturbing.

Nepsotic 07-18-2012 11:08 AM

I find all claymation animations a little disturbing, maybe it's because of the jittery movements.

That's scary as fuck anyway.

Sekto Springs 07-18-2012 12:29 PM

That clip is from The Adventures of Mark Twain, one of my childhood favorites and easily Will Vinton's best work. It got famous on youtube for being touted as "BANNED FROM TV", even though it wasn't. In fact, TV was the only place you could see it when it first came out.

Nepsotic 07-18-2012 12:42 PM

I know, I first watched that clip years ago but I've not seen the whole thing.
