You have to rep other people inbetween. You could rep the same person twice in an hour if you repped everyone else first.

Varrok 06-12-2012 09:05 AM

The last time I repped that person was at least some weeks ago, and I repped many others inbetween : |

It's more a matter of ethical objection to the vBulletin company. Or some shit.

If it's either that or going back to a relatively primitive SMF or XenForo, I'd stick with VB myself.

Speaking of which, last time I saw him post in the first place he was getting a raging hard on for Xenforo. Where did this entire building his own forum shit come from?

Wil 06-12-2012 12:17 PM

Well it predates Xenforo by a couple of years, so I'm not really sure why you're confused.

Manco 06-12-2012 01:33 PM

The times I’ve used XenForo it’s been pretty nice. What’s the problem with it?

Havoc 06-12-2012 02:29 PM

No particular problem, just my mindset that we're using premium forum software right now (best in the business as far as I'm concerned), which has been in development for years and using anything else would be a step back. Only downside is the pricetag.

Mac Sirloin 06-14-2012 02:56 PM

I'm intrigued. How much does a forum-building software suite cost? What are the benefits of different versions.

MA 06-20-2012 07:14 AM

i know the vBulletin shit is fucking expensive.

Havoc 06-20-2012 03:12 PM

Depends on how you look at it. It's a one time investment into a piece of premium software with 24/7 support and a very active modding community. VB is targeted at large communities with hundreds, thousands or hundreds of thousands of members. With those numbers you usually earn back the $200 with ad revenue alone in a matter of weeks.

With Alcar's current license (I think) we can upgrade to any 3.x version but he'd need a new $200 license for 4.x. And since this is not the kind of place to put ads on (even though it would generate a fair income) that would be a big bite out of Alcar's wallet.

It's probably a better investment if your forum actually has some members. :tard:

Wings of Fire 06-20-2012 03:45 PM

Poor Dingo.

MeechMunchie 06-20-2012 04:13 PM

I bet Eazy followed us back here.

Wings of Fire 06-20-2012 04:14 PM

I'm sorry, the only AG forum original I know was that annoying black guy.

MeechMunchie 06-20-2012 04:15 PM

Oh, that was him.

We only had the one, so he was pretty easy to spot.

Wings of Fire 06-20-2012 04:16 PM

Oh

Now I feel silly.

MeechMunchie 06-20-2012 04:17 PM

You ran away. As far as I'm concerned, that makes you sensible.

Nate's going to be annoyed. *Checks what thread we're in*

Never mind.

Wings of Fire 06-20-2012 04:23 PM

I didn't run away, I would never consciously forsake my duties as a moderator.

I just sort of... forgot.

I'm not annoyed. Just confused.

I suspect the issue is more to do with updating the themes for 4.x. He still hasn't finished the ones for 3.x yet...

(Also, I believe Abe Babe was the primary driver behind theme updating. Without her around, it's not likely to happen any time soon)

Poor Dingo.

fuck i forgot that. i haven't logged on for that long. i think i was bollocksed when i chose that.

Phylum 06-20-2012 11:23 PM

We can get STM to update the themes.

MeechMunchie 06-21-2012 12:20 AM

Actually, I'm supposed to be doing that.

Manco 06-21-2012 01:12 AM

I keep saying to myself “I could totally put together a forum skin”, but then I remember how much free time I have.

That said, would there be any interest in a mobile-friendly forum skin? Like, one that changes depending on what device you view it on?

Okay I'm on it!

Havoc 06-21-2012 02:37 PM

Oh god.

OANST 06-21-2012 03:28 PM

No need to worry. He's too busy performing talk therapy sessions with bees to actually do it.

MA 06-21-2012 04:26 PM

no wonder they're pissed off.

OANST 06-21-2012 04:34 PM

Just a barrage of Oedipus complexes, I guess.

Strike Witch 06-22-2012 03:15 AM

Maybe we should ask Abe Babe to come back to help us get some new themes.

Alcar 06-22-2012 07:19 AM

Wait. What?

I did indeed want to build my own discussion board system, but I never got further than writing a few classes. Of which I would then go back and re-write because I decided they were written incorrectly. The probability of swapping the OWF to my system is zero - and has been for years now.

It's been an incredibly long time since I discussed this with anyone though - but I floated the idea of switching to Xenforo a while back, even going so far as to import a test board. The issues preventing us from swapping right now are the lack of OWF themes for Xenforo and the absence of blogs.

As Wil touched on, my issues with vBulletin stem from the loss of actual talent and direction. I'm not going to pay for shit software.

Alcar...
