These look pretty good. I can't help but get a little dose of deja vu everytime I look at your gabbit sketches...

Slog Bait 10-17-2012 05:36 AM

Alright guys, I'll try to get something music-y done before the end of this month, then.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/60726531/gabbiwogs.png

I want to sculpt life sized gabbiwogs because they're so tiny, but I'm not quite sure to make of their general structure based of the only reference I had. The problem I tend to have when looking for reference material involving Oddworld is everything available is so... small. It's hard to make out much of the detail so you just kind of have to take guesses. I want to assume there's a thin flap of skin between the developing leg and either the mid-belly or right where it's hips start to make it more tadpole like because I don't really see how it could propel itself through water otherwise, but it doesn't seem like there is based off the only reference of a gabbiwog I've been able to find.

Oddey 01-18-2013 07:58 AM

With some fine art of a usually unnoticed species of Oddworld.

Vyrien 01-18-2013 08:09 AM

Great Rat, I really like the background as well. Nice work.

Slog Bait 01-20-2013 12:33 PM

I really like the smaller creatures in Oddworld.

that boombat looks really cool!! :D nice expression too!
great job as always!
+the drawing from before, the one with the rat, has got an epic atmosphere :fuzcool:

MurderOfInk 01-27-2013 07:15 PM

The paint Job here is incredible! Painting these kinds of things sure is fun. I like doing that with backgrounds more though. I think the slog and Gabbit are the best ones from this bunch.

Slog Bait 02-17-2013 03:08 AM

Thank you! My ability to paint continues to improve at a rapid pace, so hopefully some day I'll post something really mind blowing. Until then, you guys get to be the first to see a WIP of a paramite I'm sculpting. A paramite that's actually anatomically correct compared to it's official design. :p

This is just it's base so far. Once I have the time I'm going to start caking it with clay and get all the detail work in before painting. Let me know what you think.

MeechMunchie 02-17-2013 04:31 AM

It could definitely use some more meat on it. It looks a bit anorexic as it is.

Slog Bait 02-17-2013 04:44 AM

The lack of meat is specifically to leave room for the clay. If I completely fleshed out the base, then it would leave very little room for the clay, which I like to pack on then carve in the details. It kind of sucks when you go to carve and hit plaster/tin foil. It makes for a lot of complications that could have easily been avoided. Rest assured the paramite is going to look well fed once it's done. Thanks for the input.

Oddey 02-17-2013 12:41 PM

Nothing wrong with it yet, but of course it's kind of hard to tell with the base model. When you put on the clay and form the details into that, I think I'll be able to better tell if it looks alright. Good luck though! I'd love to see that one done.

Crashpunk 02-19-2013 04:47 AM

That's Mod mesh isn't it? Man...takes me back to GCSE Art at school. :)

WolfensteinOdess 02-27-2013 10:27 AM

Nice :) Continue

Slog Bait 06-14-2013 04:14 PM

When it comes to sculpting the base is everything because if it isn't solid and recognizable the final result won't turn out very well.

@Crashpunk
It's plaster cloth. I found it to be useful to bulk up the armature and use less clay, but it also helps dry the clay faster which proves to be a problem as most of the clay I use I discovered is prone to cracking. Right now I'm trying to figure out a way to make the clay work with the dried plaster without it cracking as severely as it does, or at least trying to find a way to nicely fill in the cracks because despite the ridiculous amount of cracking the clay holds firmly in place.

Small bump since I haven't updated this thread in forever. Have a pen sketch of General Dripik.

Oddey 06-14-2013 04:34 PM

That's pretty damn sweet. Though it does help that Dripik is one of my favorite characters.

Splat 06-14-2013 04:50 PM

Hey, not posted in here before I think, but... your art is really good! (Ok, I'm bad at commenting on this side of FC :fuzemb: )
But seriously, it looks good enough to be mistaken for official stuff, which is great; I particularly love the painting of elum amongst the trees on the first page. But all in all pretty awesome!

Slog Bait 02-14-2014 10:40 PM

I got an Oddworld-related commission recently, which makes this the first Oddworld related picture I've done in a long time I feel like posting. Kind of boring update, but it's cool to see the improvements I've made since I last posted.

Also aaaggh thanks, Splat. Though, I don't think I'm nearly as good as you say I am, it's still really fucking flattering. I think I'll try doing a landscape painting some time since I rarely do environments.

Job McYossie 02-14-2014 11:35 PM

Wow, didn't know about this thread. So many new desktop backgrounds awaited me. I think that first drawing of a paramite is going to be the one up. The clay paramite looks great, reminds me of my clay Shrykull cup. But, you know, of course your's is considerably better. Because you're a great artist. I'm not good at talking, this is a complement.

scipionyx 02-18-2014 08:29 AM

hey that glukkon looks awesome! i especially like the expression! :D +the small details in the lineart, good work! :fuzcool:

gishygleb 02-19-2014 05:09 AM

That was enrapturing... I have never seen something, that could surpass your works in beauty.

What is the enigma of your astonishing style?

This is gonna take a while. I still need to recut the legs because somehow one of the wires shrunk.

Oziah 08-16-2014 03:50 AM

These images are absolutely awesome! I love the style you've gone for.

Everything looks creepy as hell which is how I believe the creatures of Oddworld should look.

'Bitey', your weird snake/worm/fleech thing, honestly fits into the universe I think.

Top work - I'll be checking back for more buddy :)

I wasn't planning to sell this specific sculpt, but I do take private commissions.
