It'd be great if we could do some more of AO's scenes. As for AE, I'm imagining suddenly switching into a shiny breastplate to simulate getting the chest tattoo from the wierdos, but it'd take some doing to launch him into the air at the same time.

Getting a message from Oddworld in reply to a fan-creation is, I think, the dream of every person who's posted anything in FC. I've known many stories and art that I think would be worthy of such attention, but as far as I know you're the first to live the dream. Kudos to you, Edd! *Plotting bloody revenge*

Nah, kidding :p Well done for doing all the hard work and making this happen.

Invisible blocks to stand on?

Wil 01-15-2012 01:28 PM

Um. Creative?

JennyGenesis 01-15-2012 01:55 PM

That was video was amazing, thumbs up for all the hard work you guys put into it.

Why didn't you recreate the very end of the introduction where the alarms are going off and the slig chases Abe?

Mudokon_Master 01-15-2012 02:56 PM

We have 1 dislike! Who would do that?! D:

Um. Creative?

Even better would be an invisible piston arm. It would look more natural and less like the actor had jumped.

You mean the bit where Abe's wanted poster pops up and the camera pans to the first screen? *Technically* that's a different cutscene. Would be interesting to do though as an introduction to the adventure map version of RF once it's done.

I got really exsited seeing the Daily Minecraft video featuring the intro. We are defently getting more recognition. :)

It's YouTube.

I never considered the "poster-alarm-Slig-running-by" bit part of the AO intro. It's more like the very first transition FMV, except it doesn't connect two gameplay areas, but the intro with the very beginning.

AlexFili 01-16-2012 06:26 AM

And in that video you hear the slig pants whirring whereas in the one before it, you don't. It's not really crucial to the story. It just helps set the scene and of course transition into the first screen of the game.

It has already been embedded on the previous page. Do try to keep up, chap.

Havoc 01-16-2012 08:30 AM

Well shit I skipped over half a page of stuff... FUUUU

Crashpunk 01-16-2012 10:58 AM

The Yogscast forum post isn't getting any comments. Its getting views but nothing else. Which is suprising because its a big community and at least someone would be intrested.

I can see Simon and Lewis playing the Oddworld adventure Darkhoodness is planning/making.

DarkHoodness 01-16-2012 11:13 AM

Well it's at 1,700 views with 91 likes and growing, plus Lorne and the people at JAW have seen it, so I'd say that's a huge success. :) It's a shame the people on the Minecraft Forum spotlighted a stupid movie about fishing spartens instead of Minecraft Abe, but whatever.

Actually I'm thinking hard about where I want to go from here, and I'm undecided on making more FMVs (since I seem to be good at making them and the production of them will actually involve people) or continuing with making the adventure map.

For the FMVs, I've had a deep, long thought about how to do stuff, and will have to play around with mods to make some scenes work, I'll run some feasibility tests - There will have to be lots and lots of compromises which people may not agree with.

However, it won't take 7 months to produce 3 minutes of footage, since now I know what I'm doing and I'll be building sets as film sets rather than with the idea to make them playable levels later, so only need to build what will be visible.

In the mean time the adventure map will take a long time, won't involve much in the way of other people to help build although it will be interactive later, and I don't have THAT many ideas for it. It may also be not as popular. But we'll see - I would like to do it at some point, perhaps even work on it at the same time, but it may be an idea for the back burner.

EDIT: Also I'm considering re-releasing the original video in German if I can persuade a friend to help me with text translations... Getting the audio for it and applying it to the vid is very easy. As for other languages - No problem with the audio, but translating the text may be a lot harder.

AlexFili 01-16-2012 11:58 PM

I've got the Japanese intro to Abe's Oddysee if that helps. (I bought the PS1 game)

DarkHoodness 01-17-2012 12:57 AM

YouTube has all I need in terms of audio for any of the languages that AO was released in, but I only know a German friend who speaks English well enough to be able to translate my text for me. Google Translate isn't an option.

But I suppose not many non-English speaking people would be interested in this anyway though. Minecraft didn't have a language selection until last week.

Never Sleeper 01-26-2012 11:37 PM

Why did you need someone who translate texts for you? Which text are you talking about anyway? Oh and by the way astonishing work your video! :)

DarkHoodness 01-28-2012 06:42 AM

Thanks.

By "text", I'm referring to the credits and other text at the end of the video.

LauricGK 01-28-2012 09:24 AM

Huge work !

DarkHoodness 03-16-2012 01:41 AM

Today (or maybe yesterday - I check it periodically) the video passed the 10,000 view mark on YouTube, with a current total of 233 likes, 6 dislikes, 121 favourites, 103 comments and 22 shares.

Not bad, considering its obscurity. Took 2 months to get that far, though. :P

A small milestone for the project. Thanks all again for everyone who helped.

Wil 03-16-2012 02:20 AM

:D

Awesome stuff, mate! You deserve that much attention for all the hard work you've put into this.

LauricGK 03-16-2012 09:11 AM

"You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to DarkHoodness again"

Hmm.

DarkHoodness 04-16-2012 04:38 AM

Someone dubbed the Spanish audio onto the video - I approve of that. However, what I don't approve of is that although they linked to my YouTube page in the vid description, they seem to have removed all the credits. Hm. I've told them to at least post it as a video response to the original vid, I really hope I get an answer from them.

Wil 04-16-2012 05:01 AM

Removing the credits is a huge slap in the face of everyone who contributed, and it wouldn't even distract from their own contribution. I'm tempted to leave a negative comment about that.

DarkHoodness 04-16-2012 06:30 AM

I could make my own "official" other language dubs if I can find other people to translate the credits & disclaimer text for me - Anyone here know Spanish? You'll be credited. :) I can do a German and French one as well if I can find people here who knows those languages and are willing to help me.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem like I can report his video for copying the original. There is an option to report him for copyright infringement, but I can't do that either since I don't own any rights to Minecraft or Oddworld and probably break a bunch of rules by simply having AO's soundtrack on the original vid (Lorne didn't seem to mind, though). Problematic.

I guess that's why there are many re-uploads of popular videos by different users. Nobody can do anything about them.

LauricGK 04-16-2012 06:46 AM

Can't wait to see your french man ;p

DarkHoodness 04-16-2012 07:02 AM

I need to find someone to help me with the text translations first. :S
