Can't wait to do the same in Abe HD

Havoc 01-11-2012 06:53 AM

I don't think you will be able to. But it should deversify character movements a LOT.

Wil 01-11-2012 07:00 AM

I urgently need to point out that we are not using the Euphoria engine.

Euphoria is a game engine. I'm assuming they are considering using it or parts of it for Abe HD. It can do pretty neat things.

Gratuity as I know it is a form of tipping and in games it's a term used to reward people with certain items, often for participating in Beta's or other tests. Maybe they plan on some ingame reward for those playtesting or something?

Euphoria game engine is used in GTA IV

Jordan 01-11-2012 07:09 AM

Could Euphoria have something to do with the emotions of Mudokons?

Euphoria is like when the mudokons have had a dose of that laughing gas, so yeah.. or JAW could have been making reference to the Euphoria engine, although theyre not using it.

Perhaps they're branching ideas that are similar to what the Euphoria engine offers? I love this!

Varrok 01-11-2012 09:14 AM

Or JAW is just really excited when they're thinking about Abe HD

STM 01-11-2012 09:26 AM

They must be using Euphoria Engine, Max's just lying to us.

Skeeter and bats are what got my attention. Because mosquitoes come from forests and hot, dank, sweaty places. Necrum anyone?

Bullet Magnet 01-11-2012 09:28 AM

This is Nod all over again. Wil says one thing, the wild interpretations become gospel and not even his clarification can dissuade them.

It'll be on Oddworld's Wikipedia page and reported on several gaming news websites by this time tomorrow evening.

Havoc 01-11-2012 10:07 AM

Shit that would be awesome. Then I started a rumour that ended up on news sites.

I won't be satisfied until

A: We can see the unedited photograph

OR

B: Somebody spots something on there about Quiksave.

Ill be cut if they add in quiksave. It would make the game way too easy.

JennyGenesis 01-11-2012 04:30 PM

Well it's not like you will be forced to use it.

zimfromBM 01-11-2012 04:32 PM

I know. I hate how easy games have gotten these days though. back in the day completing abes oddysee was a big deal.

Phylum 01-11-2012 05:34 PM

I agree that quicksave would make it too easy. "You don't have to use it" is a shit reason to have it.

"I would find it too tempting" is a shit reason not too.

Why cater for some when you could cater for all?

sheridanm962 01-11-2012 06:01 PM

I actually like the quick save feature. :P

I think it would be nice if they could implement it in a way that didn't detract from the gameplay, but "we're putting this in and if you don't like it don't use it" is a shitty way of doing it.

DarkHoodness 01-11-2012 06:52 PM

Abe's Exoddus had quicksave - Since the puzzles in AE were a lot harder than the ones in AO, I never found it easier than AO. Maybe the difficulty of AO could be adjusted to make up for the introduction of quicksave?

This is pretty much what I was going to say. I'm hoping that multi-mud gamespeak is written on that board too.

zimfromBM 01-11-2012 08:59 PM

I also hope he sounds the way he did in AO and not like a retarded hillbilly but I suppose theres not much hope for that.

MeechMunchie 01-11-2012 11:01 PM

I know it's been said, but why don't we just have a hard mode without quicksave or something?

Phylum 01-11-2012 11:06 PM

Because difficulty settings would something something immersion.

It's in here somewhere.

MeechMunchie 01-11-2012 11:16 PM

Pfft. Immersion doesn't matter until you start playing the game. Someone who picks Hard is actively trying to make the GAME harder, anyway.

Wil 01-12-2012 01:30 AM

Sorry, guys. Unfortunately, MeechMunchie's powers of persuasion are far greater than even he realized, and I have been forced into destroying all work put into Abe HD and replacing it with tasteful graffiti.

Crashpunk 01-12-2012 01:34 AM

You should be ashamed of yourself MM.

Goresplatter 01-12-2012 03:43 AM

Just a thought stemming from that Euphoria engine thing...

Imagine ragdolls in Abe 2.5D. More specifically, the part just before shutting down the factory, with the hundreds of Slogs - sounds like fun to me. :p

Nate 01-12-2012 03:55 AM

I don't see where the ragdolls come in to your idea.

AvengingGibbons 01-12-2012 04:31 AM

Me neither, which means I must guess.

You talking about the part with loads of those timed slap mines, and you control a slig and have to shoot slogs that are charging towards you from their kennels? Rag-dolls can be glitchy.. You know games where you shoot someone and they unexpectedly go flying into the air? That's coz they use ragdolls..

Havoc 01-12-2012 04:47 AM

And yet it would be hillarious to see slogs flying all over the place. Also the Euphoria engine is unique in that it DOESN'T use ragdolls. At least not in the traditional sense.
