Three possibilites:
1) You are some kind of gaming god. 2) You have a very high boundary for what you call 'easy'. 3) You are full of shit. Someone help me choose. |
I wish it was 1) but it's probably 2)
|
Tip: If it was hard, it probably wasn't easy.
|
Oh, I did understand 2) as "What you call easy, is hard in general"...
BoI wasn't really hard for me, but I am an active gamer since 15years ago (I got my PC when I was 4), and I completed Castlevania1 just before starting Isaac, which surely affected my opinion about its difficulty I wouldn't call myself "A Gaming God" - I had problems with I Wanna Be The Guy (didn't complete, I would if I had more time and will to) |

As for BoI, I haven't got past the fourth level yet. I think I need to pay more attention to dodging stuff and less to hitting the enemy. Why is it that as you play more, harder enemies appear higher up? |
No. Harder enemies appear lower down. Enemies that were perviously only in the Caves start creeping up to the Basement etc. I'm getting mini-bosses in The Caves on a regular basis.
Also enemies get faster, smarter and do more damage. Don't underestimate the 'smarter'. The quality of the pathfinding on the red zombie guys is directly proportional to how difficult they are to beat. Previously I could just lead them in circles, now they ambush me in pincer formations when I try to do that. And they're about 50% faster than they were when I started, regeneration and all. |
I KILLED MOM
|
Great! The game is now two levels longer and a lot harder.
|
Yeah. What MM said. I've only cleared the womb twice in countless hours of playing.
:
The enemies that continue to get the better of me are the hopping guys with blood around their neck. The ones that can send 4 bullets out when they do a large jump. When there are more than 4 of them in a room I'm guaranteed to get hit. The really fast worm things that first appear in The Depths are fairly annoying, too. Roomfuls of them become really stressful. I've been struggling with some of the odd combinations in The Womb in my last few runs. The enemies that shoot lasers from their chest in conjunction with just about anything freaks me out. The eye-worms that move through rocks are the worst. Luckily they're still really rare for me. |

http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__.../e/ec/Maws.png - IMO they appear too fast, and contrast with easier enemies on level |
Varrok, I honestly do think that the same type of monster gets 'smarter' on later playthroughs.
http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__...Credits%29.png aren't too bad if you've got space to circlestrafe. http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__...Credits%29.png, as Phylum said, are bitches. http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__...Credits%29.png are okay on their own, even as multiples, but in conjunction with any other kind of enemy, even http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__...Credits%29.png, it's almost certain death. Which is why I always go for an invincibility item if I can get one. http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__...Credits%29.png are frustrating and satisfying in equal measure. http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__...Credits%29.png are annoying at best, *imaginary expletive* at worst. My personal nemeses are http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__...Credits%29.png, http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__...Credits%29.png and http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__...Credits%29.png, in that order. So what bosses do you hate? I wish Peeps would fuck off and die in a hole. |
Gurdy the little shite.
|
:
also, Peep? GURDY, he so much pisses me off, I wish I could overkill him... |
The Wiki doesn't know everything, and I know what I saw.
Gurdy's okay. Bomb, run in circles, shoot boils as they appear, leave flies until the end, repeat. |
4 Boils at the time + gurdy's attacks + a pooter = *almost* impossible to get nodmg, which got me mad several times : ( He's not hard to kill (no BoI boss is), but he's a pain in the A while trying to get Spelunker Boy

He edited that bit in. He looked at his original post and thought "Hey, that almost suggests I'm not great. Can't have that."
http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/2302/80316943.png Well, that was fun. Just Maggy left to do now. Pretty annoying way to discover that Isaac doesn't have a completion bonus though. |
I actually agree that none of the bosses in BoI are particularly challenging. If I played the game more often I doubt I would struggle with them at all. The only reason I keep dying in the Mom fight is that I haven't fought her enough times to learn her patterns, but I'm getting much better now.
I fought Peep as a mini-boss in the Womb in my last playthough. I was only on 1 heart and he fucking killed me :( |
The bosses in BoI are not hard, really : o Once you learn their attack patterns, weak points and you get some lucky items (Fetus in a jar + Mr.Mega), you can kick them out in no time. And their attacks can't hurt you more than 1 heart (you usually have 6 or more at the time)... let's compare it to the last boss in Castlevania (Dracula):
He's got 2 forms, the first one has only one attack + teleporting, but even if you know that, it's extremely hard to avoid that - you have to jump at very, very accurate time - and you cant just hit his body - the only vulnerable part is head. You can't hit his head without jumping. And after he finished attack he teleports so you can't hit him then, so you have to do very-well-timed jumps to avoid his attacks and hit his head at the same time (it's harder than you may think). Oh, and his single attack takes 1/4 of your life or something (always)... and he's got a second form. And you have to hit him at least 16 times to see that second form (without weapon upgrade 32 times, I think)... That's a challenging boss :
|
Finally got to the womb. I had some pretty neat items—full damage, full range, full (I think) speed, six or seven maximum hitpoints, and the horse thing that lets you fly. But then I got to the womb, and it was my first time there, so... I died pretty quickly.
|
Keep trying :) Once you've beaten womb 3-4 times and learned about enemies, it'll look much easier to you :D I remember dying 2 rooms from start point at my first journey to Womb
|

Yes, completing depths for the first time doesn't count as completing full game, and is rewared by unlocking Womb itself :)
|
I beat the Womb on my first attempt.
I must admit, I was pretty powerful. I had ample hearts and was dealing shitloads of damage with Brimstone. |
Yeah. My first Womb complete was with Brimstone and Chocolate Milk, which lets you shoot without charging.
My most recent was with "high damage spectral rock laser". (Damage upgrades + Ouija Board + A Small Rock + Technology. I got Technology in Basement 1 and proceeded to destroy everything, as you can see above.) Maggy's quite good. Got speed upgrades early so the slowness wasn't a problem, but I did have an encounter with Lust that was actually a threat for once. Also got Giant Mushroom and Mini Mush, so I ended up normal size again :D http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/6080/29982000.png I'm annoyed at this point. Can you guess why? :
Googled. Isaac isn't important. I unlocked Judas by completing The Womb with Cain, so boo-yah-sucks-to-you. |
It must just be the first womb completion. I think I beat Mom in The Depths for the first time as Eve, but the game doesn't care at that point.

So does anyone play as the blue baby? Also Mom's Knife is basically the best weapon in the entire game. |
I play as blue baby... and Judas
Mom's knife is great unless you've got low firerate/range. Then it sucks. |

http://filesmelt.com/dl/bestisaaccharacter.png No Isaac, you ARE the knife! 5 seconds later... http://filesmelt.com/dl/5secondslater.png |
