I first played Exoddus PS, then Oddysee PC, then Oddysee PS. My preference would have to go for the console version. I found the controls easier to manage personally, I could remember where everything was quicker. That may just be because I am primarily a console gamer over a PC gamer I admit however, so I find PS controller commands easier to memorise over PC. No issue with playing on either system though, quite interesting to play the same games on different systems actually

I'd say if anyone had the PC version but liked the PS controls, why don't you plug the controller into the pc and use it with a Joypad to Keyboard/Mouse app. I'm doing it now sometimes but a great program for it is ControlMK. I'm using it with an Xbox 360 controller currently.

I wouldn't say that. I'd say plug a controller in and use their built in controller support.

That's only on Exoddus isn't it?
Might just be Xbox controllers...

Phylum 06-05-2011 10:45 PM

I think I only ever tried it on Exoddus because I purchesed my control pad after I used one of the free AO codes on the PSN.

DarkHoodness 06-06-2011 03:43 AM

I've played both PC and PlayStation versions of AO and AE, and I can't really chose between them.

Everyone has to remember that the PC versions of the old 2D games are ports of the PlayStation versions - And as a result the PlayStation versions feel a bit more polished, while the PC versions lack a little charm and quality, even if they play a bit faster (which also makes them a little more challenging).

However, I found having Oddspeak commands bound separately to keys on the PC versions to be easier than remembering the button combinations used in the PlayStation versions.

MeechMunchie 06-06-2011 08:42 AM

I prefer keyboard because there a lot of different buttons and I like to have them all layed out in front of me. But I have no doubt that the fact that I played the games on PC first played a big part. As I've pointed out before, I was pretty much born with a keyboard in my hands so my excuses apply to pretty much every game I've played.

Of course, with a PC you can just jam in whatever control interface you want. I did try Exoddus with a controller a couple of times but I didn't like it.

Spooce-aholic 06-06-2011 10:22 PM

I preffer the PC version because PCs are better than consoles.

BTW, in the PC version you can customise controls and use a game pad.

That never worked for me. Oddysee just didn't work, Exoddus didn't pick up any button presses.

Did you customise the controls for your keyboard?

Keyboard controls or getting a gamepad to work?

Sometimes redefining the keyboard commands bugged in my version of AO, which was odd. The workaround was to change the .ini file. Maybe something similar could have been done for a gamepad, but I never tried.

I was on about the controller (pc).

Kinto 06-07-2011 12:13 PM

I usually go with PC on everything, but in oddworlds case console wins... controls are smoother, and the sound is a hell of alot better. I cant even beat AO on PC because the whistling puzzles are so damn annoying!

BigBroSlig3097 06-12-2011 07:36 AM

I don't usually play anything on the PC, but I think console would be alot better.

brechtos 06-12-2011 07:50 AM

I think I prefer the pc controls but only because I recently played the PC versions. All in all I think both work fine.
Now the PSP control setup on the other hand... .

alluz 06-12-2011 10:20 AM

I choose both i have played AO and AE both ps1 and pc 100% but the console one feels bit harder than pc maybe cause i perfer pc but both are just fine

You say you think, have you actually palyed on either of these platforms?

BigBroSlig3097 06-16-2011 04:18 PM

yes i have played on console, its just i dont play alot of anything on PC.

luke3212 06-17-2011 10:13 AM

Personally, i prefer the console version.

The PC version feels more delayed in controls, and the music sounds like it was converted with a potato, but its got a higher framerate and faster load times.
but...
The PC version is scaled to shit.
--------------
The console version is grew up with, so i can't really say anything against it, apart from the fact that it feels like its slomo.
The controls react instantly on the PSX version, and its much easier to use the controller over the keyboard.

Phylum 06-17-2011 05:55 PM

It isn't scaled if you have a screen resolution of 640x480 or use DXwnd.

Crashpunk 06-19-2011 03:13 AM

I feel there isn't anything wrong with the PC version aside from the music isn't as good as the Console version. The resoultion is fine on my computer as well.

How is the music different?

I personaly prefer console because it's easier to control than on the keyboard. :)

It just takes getting used to, plus you can customise the controls to something that you prefer.

Phylum 06-23-2011 03:29 AM

I don't see why anyone would want to customize the controls. They just work.

Or maybe it's just because it was the first computer game I played.

I just find they're a little too spread out, I like mine in a bunch. It's how I play better. :D

gishygleb 06-28-2011 01:05 AM

Abe's oddysee was my first COMPUTER game, so that controls are easier for me too

I wouldn't say its easier. I would say it's more comfortable though.

Get a logitech gamepad for the games. It's comfortable and it's the only one I can get to work with AO on pc.

JennyGenesis 06-29-2011 11:44 AM

I got a Logic3 gamepad which is just a huge knockoff of the Playstation controller minus the analog sticks.
