Is there some form of currency like on typical servers we need to know of? (I)

DarkHoodness 05-26-2011 06:13 AM

EDIT: Oh okay I was mistaken. Actually has Generic Reason been a problem since the updates yet?

Manco 05-26-2011 07:57 AM

GenericReason? We do not speak of such things here.

I just got it now

Wil 05-26-2011 12:43 PM

Hint: If you're in the Nether on SMP, don't hit a zombie pigman. Because if I lose another two stacks of glowstone dust, I'm going to ragequit your face.

STM 05-26-2011 12:45 PM

Whoever nicked my helmet give it back. Also WoF/Nexy (not Joe WoF) and RidG you need to give me back all my equip you pikeyed.

Reasonably high system specs. You should be able to at least run Fallout 3 / Team Fortress 2 (even at the lowest settings). Having the graphics on "fancy" and having very little visibility fog makes things more graphics intensive.

Any chance we could have some Mudokon / Slig skins? :D

ouch. Looks like i won't be buying this game soon. However i'm hoping to buy a new computer this summer.

Is there a OWF Minecraft server i've missed?

dripik 05-26-2011 01:10 PM

Read back two pages, I did something there.

Yeah, and generally, don't do stuff others don't do. Like, hitting zombie pigmen.

Splat 05-26-2011 01:14 PM

Game was less laggy and generally better-running for me, too. Except the furnaces. I'll mourn the loss of that iron for years to come (or until I find some more - 24 pieces for a full set of armour! Gosh!)

Havoc 05-26-2011 01:19 PM

Ok I can't believe I just played like 6 hours straight on the OWF server. And here I was, proud that I wasn't playing WoW. Sigh...

On the plus side, my garden is done and my perimeter walls are coming along nicely.

Manco 05-26-2011 01:48 PM

Sounds like the server went down pretty well. I'll have to get online more often.

Yeah, tell me about it. But it's fun, and that's the point. :)

Yes indeed.

I'll be making and posting a video of the SMP server soon, now that it's "public" knowledge.

Havoc 05-26-2011 01:55 PM

Oh, playing online means I can log in when I'm at my girlfriend's this weekend and don't have to start over this time! Sweet. Dripik you better have it running when she's at work. I have a lot of plans.

dripik 05-26-2011 02:02 PM

Don't worry, it'll be on.

I'm rendering an isometric map of the MP world right as I'm typing this. I'll post up the "inhabited" section of it when it's done.

DarkHoodness 05-26-2011 02:56 PM

Wow, it's like a little village or so. (It's also helping me see where the railway system should go next. :) )

Havoc 05-26-2011 03:11 PM

Looks awesome. I can see my little project.

Ridg3 05-26-2011 03:22 PM

You know what I'm really tempted to do? Is to implement a better torch laying system to navigate caves.

The setup that I seen was extremely confusing and I could get easily lost down there. I was thinking for the next time an excavation is happening; only put torches on the left hand side of the tunnel. So that means that whenever you want to go deeper into the cave you follow the torches that are visible on the left hand side of the screen and if you want to exit you follow the torches on the right hand side.

I'll be perfectly okay for doing this entire project myself with that main cave that we have. It would be a lot better I think.

Havoc 05-26-2011 03:26 PM

How about you just put signs down pointing to the exit.

Disgruntled Intern 05-26-2011 03:37 PM

If I join, will you put up with the fact that I have absolutely no fucking clue as to what I'll be doing?

Torches would be quicker and neater.

As long as you don't demolish anything, I'm sure no-one will mind.

Disgruntled Intern 05-26-2011 03:54 PM

Well I'm not going to destroy anything on purpose. But I've seen plenty of videos of people accidentally burning shit to the ground. That seems...Problematic.

Ridg3 05-26-2011 03:59 PM

Burning things to the ground isn't going to cause that much of a problem anymore compared to old times. The fire has been nerfed... massively. Really is one of the easiest games to get the hang of, the only problem is for a beginner is trying to get all the materials needed to progress.

Mudokon_Master 05-26-2011 04:07 PM

Wait what? How come I haven't known about this? Send me the ip next time it's up!

Havoc 05-26-2011 04:18 PM

If any more people are going to join this we might have to start a dedicated server, lest we fry Dripik's computer and create a giant lag fest :p

Don't fuck around with flint and steel or lava and you should be fine. You could also spend a little time browsing the Wiki (minecraftwiki.net) to get up to speed.

It's really not all that complicated, you just need to know how certain blocks behave and how to make important items.

How much do those things even cost?

dripik 05-26-2011 10:39 PM

If you have a vague idea of the concept 'teamwork', a tendency to be cautious about other people's work and you're not the attention-demanding type, you should be fine and welcome to the server. As it transpired, not everyone is blessed with such capabilities. But most of us get along well, even if we make a blunder every now and then.

The golden rule is: creeper-related accidents don't count. It's not worth raging about those, they are bound to happen.

Splat 05-27-2011 02:04 AM

Problem with your plan, ridge; what if you get a wide cavern you can't illuminate with torches only on one side? What if it doesn't have enough floor to lay torches on it?
I strategically placed sand at key junctures in the cavern on my server. I had to keep an eye out for it but since sand rarely if ever appears below sea-level it worked well. Helped me realise how much the cave was leading me in circles, for one thing.

How much do those things even cost?

About 10 dollars* for a 16 slot server and 20 dollars* for a 32 slot server, but I don't think we'd ever get to that number with just OWF members participating.

As long as Dripik's computer holds out we should be fine though, but if it starts to get laggy like with the 1.6.2 patch it stops being fun quick.

* a month.

Easy, build a little wall in the middle and plant torches accordingly to keep to the left hand side only dictum.
