I'm just finishing off the last part of the low poly and unwrapping now. I'll post everything, including wires, when I finish the texturing.

:)

Skibur 06-13-2011 07:48 AM

Looks like I can't edit the OP any more, so I'll post the latest right here!

Here's a shot of the low poly with normal and ambient occlusion maps, the same with wireframe overlay, and the beginnings of a diffuse texture!

The wires show that quite a few parts aren't as optimised as they could be, but I see this as probably being a pretty important part of a game environment, the player might even ride on it at some point, so I think the detail is necessary.
Normal and AO map need some manual fixing, and the diffuse is going to need a lot of love, but I'm excited to get this finished and looking great!

I'm loving this thing so much. :D

That is incredible! Oddworld should hire you for there HD Remakes. :)

Nice job. Edge flow looks fine to. Perhaps those doors could have been as stand alone objects instead of cutouts in the actual main body? Unless you want them to open ofcourse :). Looking forward to seeing the final texture.

Fartuess 06-13-2011 01:27 PM

Could you give some highpoly wireframes?

Btw. I see some baking errors on normal maps :P

Skibur 06-13-2011 04:36 PM

The doors are stand alone and yes, there are unfortunately plenty of baking errors that I need to fix up...

enchilado 06-13-2011 04:41 PM

Wow, though. It's looking amazing.

Havoc 06-14-2011 01:42 AM

Looking great! Keep it up!

Oddey 06-16-2011 12:34 PM

That... That's pretty damn awesome looking.

lloyd 06-17-2011 07:23 AM

Looking good! :D

Skibur 06-17-2011 07:36 AM

Thought I might post something new to show I'm not being too slack... :P

mr.odd 06-17-2011 07:43 AM

Nice. What software are you using?

Skibur 06-17-2011 07:53 AM

3DS Max 2010 & Photoshop

Fartuess 06-17-2011 07:54 AM

Nice, really, really nice :).

imo tint is a little bit too blueish.

Skibur 06-17-2011 07:57 AM

Yeah, I went with blue. The concept art is a bit of a mixture between blue, green grey and rust. I will probably mess around with the hue and saturation at the end. I'll probably just desaturate it a bit.

mr.odd 06-17-2011 08:10 AM

Do you have any plans on animating this?

Skibur 06-17-2011 08:13 AM

I was thinking about rigging the 'legs' so I could animate it going along a track. I can't really spend too much longer on this, though. I need to focus on making some new stuff for my portfolio, and work.

Skibur 06-27-2011 10:45 PM

So I have been a bit busy lately... I decided to make one final effort on the texture and then to move on, so here you go. I might revisit it at some stage and keep working on the texturing and maybe even animation, but for now, I'm done.

Thanks for the feedback and encouragement along the way! Enjoy!

these are looking awesome :-)

STM 06-28-2011 02:24 AM

Wow Skibur...just, wow!

Skibur 06-29-2011 02:38 AM

I was going to move on to another Oddworld model, but I've decided to make something more practical for now.

When I do get around to modelling something for Oddworld again I'll post it on here. :)
