Unless you've worked for long enough to deserve retirement or you have earned enough money to deserve retirement. (i.e. early retirement)

That's not how it goes. If you can work you must do some form of work.

Paris Hilton is proof otherwise.

The best way to understand politics is to exercise a political exercise, i.e. read something like Plato's Republic and find out how politics and government tie into human nature, then apply your own ideas to it and see how much shit you'd land a hypothetical country in.

I loved Plato's Republic, but the man had no idea about how politics actually work.

It's more about morality than politics when it comes down to it, I think it has lost a lot of meaning when applied to an audience 2500 years later. In fact something in the translators notes said something like, 'in fact we aren't even sure of who was Plato's audience then.'

It has been said that the whole of Political Philosophy is footnotes to Plato.

It's bullshit of course, but crude as they were, he did set the trend for many contempory issues.

I agree, my favourite bit in the whole book though is how he references how women should behave in Women, Children and Warfare, as well as Primary Education for the Guardians, basically the primordial essence of 'get in the kitchen and make me a sammich' hilarity enfolds every time.
