Mudokon_Master, there's nothing nerdy about playing the flute.

I get really bored swimming lengths, I wish I had the patience because it's really good for you.

:

Awww, thank you! Yep, still in it, although I won't be once I graduate. Hopefully I'll still be able to find some classes and socials wherever I end up.

Aww. Are you sure they won't let you be sneaky? ^_^;; Any idea where you'll probably end up? Are swing classes popular, d'you know?

My uni has very little clubs avaliable, and anything that happens to be abit different (like cayaking or snowboarding) costs alot. Snowboarding cost £25 per session, and you still had to get your own equipment and my friend spent over £200 getting enough equipment for cayaking. I joined Mountineering (rock climbing and outdoorsy stuff) but I couldn't afford the climbing shoes that were about £60 so I stopped going.

I can always show up in Sheffield classes, in fact I hope to, because I've got loads of friends here. But because I'll either be in Norwich or, hopefully, Leeds, it'll take some travel. But it's ok, there's swing dance classe in both places. But Leeds is better. :D

I'm too afraid of injuring my arm or face and not being able to play my flute to partake in sport. I considered kendo for a while, but I soon decided to put my flute first.

I'm wondering would sport help with your breathing to be able to play wind instruments better or would that make you use the wrong breathing technique?

Mudokon_Master 05-13-2011 03:05 AM

I think the way you play the flute, you need to have some really nice lip muscles ... I'm not sure how much breathing has to do with it ...

Ridg3 05-13-2011 03:08 AM

Ah right, so you kiss the flute to make music. Sorry for asking silly questions.

Mudokon_Master 05-13-2011 03:09 AM

All is forgiven Ridg:)
No but seriously, my old music teacher told me something weird like that.

You require both good breathing and embouchure to play any woodwind or brass instrument well. The flute embouchure is harder to get right than most woodwinds. It also requires fine control of the lip muscles, which is why flautists make good kissers.

Anything that improves your general fitness is good for playing any instrument. It in no way hinders your breathing – if it did, idly breathing would too.

I completely forgot that I go 10-pin bowling in a league once a week.

I used to do competitive swimming but dropped out recently when I realized that children that are 5 years younger than me can swim faster than me due to ridiculous training programs. I'm gonna start swimming just for the sake of being fit when university starts for me, until then it's just been a lot of long walks with the dog and skimboarding. I can't stand running, I have a case of spaghetti legs so when I do something as simple as jogging they just flail all over the place.

I like watching hockey

I remember playing rugby once. Someone tackled me, I hit the back of my head on some cunt's knee and then some fuckhead tripped over onto me and knocked my teeth out. No wonder I don't play.

CrissCross 05-13-2011 06:02 PM

sounds like a good time then

Dixanadu 05-13-2011 06:23 PM

Last time I played rugby I got knocked out.

Good times.

Mudokon_Master 05-13-2011 06:24 PM

I'm a swimmer and a diver!
I swim the 100 breaststroke, 200 freestyle, 200 IM, and 400 freestyle relay with my buddies.

I have a friend whose going to be in the 2016 Olympics for swimming. I wasn't very good myself, only doggy paddle and surprisingly butterfly, those were all I could do.

I used to hate doing the 200 IM in high school, but during my senior year my coaches replaced me from doing 200 IM to 200 freestyle. For some reason, that ended up being worse. Now I love doing the 200 IM, probably because I'm better in pacing myself at it. The only issue is my butterfly is complete balls, but I tend to make up for it with a good backstroke.

So, I do 200 IM, 100 Back, and 400/200 Free Relay
