I think the problem in MO is that they tried too much to keep ideas and concepts from their 2D games and tried to make it work in 3D. And one hit death would have been impossible in MO the way it is now.

And screw those pokemon man :D. :

The puzzles in MO were a lot more simplistic as well, mainly due to the above points. The main thing that bugs me though is the change in tone and art direction. |
Yup, MO was a genuinely big fail after AO and AE. I think the only thing that kept be playing was to get to the next cutscene, and I remember being extremely disappointed every time that just turned out to be a stupid newspaper.
If OWI ever gets back to producing games, I sincerely hope they consider doing a remake of Munch's Oddysee the way it was supposed to be, like the concepts and true to Lorne's vision. Maybe once the Oddworld movie hits the theater we'll get a decently done game to accompany it. And hell, I'll only be 50 when that happens so plenty of time to enjoy it :D |
Yep, that movie will be big in '37. 2037.
|
the only time I was scared of Oddworld is when I saw the bad Ending in MO at the time it came out (I was 10 at the time). god damn
|
Great :), I have to watch that ending.

i hated scrabs, the one level i couldnt do was pretty easy, the paramonian nests, it used to piss me off, but now the only things in abe that still creep me out are paramites, theyre just soo... spidery... an yeah, the quicksave on AE took away that feeling totally, but then i think i wouldnt of completed the game without it lol, its one of those things, you dont like it, but you cant go on without it, even though you dont have to use it, you just cant resist it, i think they should of made three difficulty settings on AE, easy, with quicksave and less enemies or whatever, hard, without quicksave, and expert, without quicksave OR checkpoints, you know, just for experts.
|
Ahh, no checkpoints? That's just endurance, that doesn't have much to do with difficulty IMO. Plus, sometimes you just don't have that kind of time to do an entire level in one stand. And Abe levels arewaaay too big man xD. I hated paramonia too. Now I love scrabs though, ahh, how we grow :).
|
yeah scrabs arnet that bad, the expert difficulty setting, like i said, only for absolute EXPERTS!
me |

yeah ok, i guess that works better

I don't even remember how old I was, though I do recall myself getting very scared of AO's intro. Especially the part where it shows the Rupture Farms logo on the barrel. xD;
I'll never forget when I was playing Lilo & Stitch for the PlayStation, and my dad comes in the living room, watching me before saying "Why don't you try playing Abe's Oddysee?" Me: "B-but it's scary..DD: Uh.." Aw, man.. So long ago too. I'd have dreams about the Scarbs. It being all dark and foggy while all I see are their silhouettes. Man..:D |
my dad used to say, have a go on abes oddysee, its a good game, and i was like, dad, it looks awful, how wrong can a guy be!
|
Smart man, your dad xD.
|
You right can a guy be.
|
wh... what?
|
He's saying you can't write.
|
oh, oops! only just noticed my mistake, i'll sort it.
EDIT: *Fixed |
Oh, but that's ruined the joke...
|
now i laugh
|
We all laugh. I now remembered, back when I was a kid I remember telling everyone how I had a game were I could posses a cool monster with a machine gun and them explode it into bits of flesh :). Ahh, the memories.
Truly, I wouldn't be the same nowadays without the infant memories of beating hookers, exploding animals and shooting deformed zombies. |
Although I got this more with Tomb Raider I still got it to a degree with Oddworld. Those were the days. :D
|
I feared Tomb Raider's bad controls ;). Seriously, I hated those jumps.
I feared Lavos. |
