We don't have TV licences in my country.

Nemo 09-07-2010 11:45 AM

TV licenses sound pretty stupid to me.

lismati 09-07-2010 11:52 AM

I have whole discography of Kraftwerk (I'm proud of it :P ), and some Daft Punk, and many Jean Michelle Jarre CDs. I listen game based songs and STs on youtube (game based song - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgOx5...eature=related )

God, fucking Rogers. Rogers is a bloated, disgusting thing. Them and Bell can stick the big dick, as far as I'm concerned.

For those not in the know, Bell and Rogers are T.V., Phone, Internet and Cellular Service providers in Canada. Both companies have a despicable track record of cheating people out of money and adding charges to contracts without informing you. Bell seems to have completely vetoed any English-speaking customer service reps, too. Most likely because the Indian call-takers barely fucking speak English, so nobody can bear to go through the 3-4 hour process of actually fixing whatever Bell fucked around with.

Are you implying that you actually spent money on St. Anger?

Their first four, yes.
Why did I see that coming...

EDIT: 200 posts. Go me.

OANST 09-07-2010 01:50 PM

Are you implying Metallica?

abe619 09-07-2010 02:20 PM

i was trying to say i feel sorry for them because although their my favorite band, i never spent any money...just most of their stuff illegal...

OANST 09-07-2010 02:23 PM

Lars is going to eat you.

Ridg3 09-07-2010 03:05 PM

Stop it OANST... he'll enjoy that.

abe619 09-07-2010 04:32 PM

OMG, i think won't get an erection for the next 3 months because of what OANST said, that's so fucking digusting...

Nemo 09-07-2010 04:51 PM

I know what you mean. I too get digustion problems. Usually when I've had milk, though. Not when I think about being eaten.

Mac Sirloin 09-07-2010 05:38 PM

Digustion is now my new favorite gross word.

I usually used programmes like Spotify of Grooveshark to try out a specific album before I buy it, which has a incredible catalogue of free and legal music. Is there anything similar where you live?

I used to use Last.fm untill they restricted it to US/UK/DE only.. rest of the world has to pay :(

Munch's Master 09-08-2010 02:51 AM

I don't download games, films or tv shows. I only download music if I cannot find it legally, and if i later do find it legally I'll buy it.

It is annoying though with things like the new series of Futurama which isn't even aired here. I'll have to wait for a UK DVD release, I guess.

Havoc 09-08-2010 06:20 AM

Exactly what logic do you follow when it comes to not downloading TV series? Unlike movies where you're supposedly 'stealing' something from the creators, TV shows are generally already paid for by the network so it's not like they miss out on any money because you decide to download it.

enchilado 09-08-2010 06:41 AM

I've never really pirated anything except Abe's Oddysee last year. I figured I was going to buy it soon after when the Oddbox came out anyway, but that - of course - hasn't eventuated yet.

Yeah, except for when you want to see more of that show but it had low ratings because people downloaded it, preventing more seasons from being made.

Wings of Fire 09-08-2010 08:29 AM

Luckily I fall outside the national demographic for everything I pirate, so even the creators never expected a penny from me.

Could be why I haven't got caught pirating. I think i'm the only Cornishman into Riot Grrrl and Electro.

Wings of Fire 09-08-2010 09:46 AM

Yeah, as I discovered to my joy a few months ago, the Digital Economy Bill doesn't really care if you pirate from outside the EU because why should they.

Josh 09-08-2010 09:49 AM

Robots in Disguise discography, here I come!

Yeah, except for when you want to see more of that show but it had low ratings because people downloaded it, preventing more seasons from being made.

TBH the popularity of a show is detriment by much more than just ratings. Successful shows like Lost, CSI, Prison Break all have a fan base that extends way past the network it's shown on. Statistics on the website, followers on a Facebook group, even fan made clips on Youtube and their responses all give a very accurate representation on how popular a show is and if it's seen by enough people.

The only issue there really is with downloading a TV show is that the network could argue they miss out on advertising revenue, which is a valid point. However streaming versions of episodes that have advertisements are popping up more and more these days on the network websites, so it's a bit double sided.
