Maybe he actually wants to connect with friends and people he cares about without fans butting in and harrassing him like they have with poor Stewart Gilray.

There's always that..

Or

Perhaps he's hiding all them announcements behind that account. The fiend!

Anyway, that picture alone has excited me somewhat enough to come to terms that they've possibly been working on.. something.

crimsonxking 09-02-2010 06:19 AM

I'd say it looks Oddworld enough to possibly be something from it. I'm curious to see a full design. But, it's also possible this is something else completely.

So I'm the only one who doesn't think it's particularly Oddworld?

Well; what I've noticed, as the Oddworld game series has progressed...we've been introduced to a whole range of different looking characters with their own unique looks. In AO; a lot of the characters are quite menacing in terms of looks (Scrabs, Paramites etc.) but in AE, we are introduced to some slightly more wacky looking characters (most notably; Greeters) and in MO and SW; theres even mixture of both. I mean if you saw a Fuzzle and a Slig both on their own and had no idea what games they were from; you'd probably assume the Fuzzle is from a kid's game and the Slig is from an action/shooter style game, thats the wonderful thing about Oddworld...theres a huge variety of characters. :)

So I think dismissing this as not Oddworld is a tad bit hasty; we need to find out more info on this thing first. :P

Precisely! I found that myself.
The Clakkerz and Outlaws I first felt weren't very Oddworldian in the slightest, they felt very platformer/childish - as if something from Spyro, but then looking back, there are a lot of varied species in Oddworld.

OANST 09-02-2010 04:15 PM

As much as I loved Stranger's Wrath I still think that Clakkerz were poorly designed and stupid.

Whilst a lot of that is due to the different vibes of each game coming out through the designs, it also has to do with who were the production designers in OWI at the time.

I keep remembering that there were some Slog like creatures in Stranger's Wrath...

Slergs or something. Am I right or is it my imagination running wild?

squeak117 09-02-2010 10:06 PM

You're right, they're called Slegs.

Xavier 09-03-2010 02:33 AM

Yep, Slegs, like slogs, but wilder

I think how I came to accept them just that little bit, was that their feet are somewhat reptilian and their noses are bizarrely positioned on their faces..

The first Sleg compound you come across in SW, just after your first encounter with the Grubbs, has a sign with a Slog on it opposed to a Sleg. I always thought that strange, furhtermore, I was kinda relieved that they weren't Slogs.

Slogs terrify me more than Slegs, but maybe that's just because Abe doesn't have a crossbow..

MuMI 09-03-2010 05:35 AM

Probably Slegs are the same as Slogs, but the wild version like Xavier said! That's why the sign in SW with a Slog opposed to a Sleg

Jordan 09-03-2010 05:37 AM

And the fact that Slogs instantly kill Abe as opposed to Stranger taking damage from them before being eaten. That's why they don't seem as deadly in MO, because Abe and Munch have health.

Dynamithix 09-03-2010 05:44 AM

Oh yeah, Slegs. That's it. :D

Wolvarks were cool too.

haha touché. MO often skips my mind, for I've played that least.

Wolvarks never looked that much like Oddworld to me, either. They looked too similar to Outlaws. Perhaps the same biological family.

MuMI 09-03-2010 06:04 AM

I really don't like the fact that Abe and Munch have health! Slogs should 'one bite kill'!!!
... but MO would be harder if there wasn't any 'health bar' for the heros. Anyway, I stick with AO & AE - No health! :)

MeechMunchie 09-03-2010 06:13 AM

Apart from with Bees and Fleeches.

Apart from with Bees and Fleeches.

True, but I think Bees and Fleeches are challenging and that's awesome! That way we can see how dangerous Oddworld really is!

Bees were easy to avoid but Fleeches, ugh... They were a pain in the ass.

Bullet Magnet 09-04-2010 01:27 PM

The weirdest thing about slegs is their infamous disappearing act. As hunting methods go, its not terribly tenable for the survival of the species as a whole.

At least slogs get to eat their kills.

It's possible.

Fil The Slig 09-05-2010 01:04 AM

Oh God oh god! Maybe this is a new oddworld creature!

Zukan 09-05-2010 01:26 AM

That's an original creature made by Bobby Chiu. I think Lorne is just a fan of his art (and vise-versa), I heard they've worked together on a few things a while ago but I have no idea if it's been Oddworld related at all.

Check out some of his other art, it's brilliant stuff.

jmchandler 09-05-2010 05:14 AM

Oh well...mystery solved.....Too bad. I really thought it looked Oddworldish.

Dynamithix 09-05-2010 08:11 AM

Me too, now I'm disappointed... again... D:

Stranger4002 09-05-2010 08:21 AM

Ok; well know we've solved this mystery, I think its time we close this thread.

Fan is an art of Lorne?

Dynamithix 09-05-2010 08:47 PM

He means Lorne is a fan of Bobby's art and Bobby probably Lorne's art.

Maybe this Bobby Chiu got his inspiration to choupug from Oddworld. It looks much like an oddworld creature.

Wow, well spotted! I like Bobby Chiu's art a lot, I've been keeping a distant eye on him for years. I can't believe I missed this.

On the other hand I'm truly disappointed this isn't some new oddworld creature...

Fil The Slig 09-06-2010 08:43 AM
