To be honest, I am slighty scared to travel to the US now - knowing that should the unfortunate occur, I might still be liable for thousands regardless of travel insurance.

Scared? I think a small bit of care and precaution should be exercised no matter where you go.... but I don't think it's a reasonable way to feel about traveling to the US or any 'developed' country- the odds of something happening are slim (unless you're accident-prone :p)... I mean, you might as well be scared to come over here because you might get mugged! Better stay home.

Just keep to the cities and stay out of the backwoods areas and you'll be fine. Until you've been bum-poked Deliverance style, you haven't been bum-poked.

I have a tendency to get into trouble, everywhere I go. It usually involves alcohol, and medics. Thus my substantiated worry! It's not a case of 'if', it's a case of 'when' :p
