Oddworld Caramelldansen | Project Revival!

It strikes me as a great shame that I dropped this project those 9 months ago. But I do not despair, for a project this promising will take longer than 9 months to die. Sure, though I make my attempts, this project might not even reach completion on its second attempt. But that wont stop me trying!

I digress. Here's my point:

I wish to continue my work on the Oddworld Caramelldansen, but I can't do it alone. I have many files containing the animations for 9 Oddworld characters. I will be expanding on this collection as the project progresses so I need no help in that. I'm also fluent enough to Flash to be confident I can handle all the compiling of the animations and fitting it to the music. So I need no help in that also. But I lack a certain inspiration.

Take a gander at this Caramelldansen AMV:

As you can see, the cute anime characters are greatly augmented by the bright, flashy backgrounds. I have no bright, flashy backgrounds and know not how to make them.

So I call upon you. If you think you can replicate backgrounds like that within a Flash-compatible file, YOU could be part of a great moment in Oddworld-fan history!

scipionyx 02-17-2010 01:09 PM

too bad that i neither have time nor enough experience with flash...( i already failed at animating my own project with flash xD)

...otherwise i would help... but I whish you good luck!! ^^ ... and it's cool that you keep this up :D

enchilado 02-18-2010 12:52 AM

OMG they are toooo sexy. I mean, not the muds and sligs and so on - they're cool, great, but not sexy. I mean the chick ones. I just... I just... there's something about it... I LOVE IT BUT HATE IT AT THE SAME TIME

And Wikipedia's example of it, with the music added, would be freaking awesome:

What the...?

Crashpunk 02-18-2010 10:00 AM

I'll love to help you on the Oddworld Caramelldansen?

BTW did anybody see my Abe Caramelldansen?

I thought that the Oddworld Caramelldasen would have a character in diffrent parts of the music and the background to have Oddworld logos scrolling past

Do not, under any circumstances spam. Spam can be defined as posting excessively, flooding, excessive advertising, double posting, posting irrelevant replies or posting replies containing the bare minimum of words.

Stanley, please don't spam.

If no-one will help me with a disco background, I now have two back-up options:
The first is, as Crashpunk suggested, Oddworld Inhabitants logos scrolling past. Probably in various flashing colours, as each character is shown doing the caramellsansen.
The second would be to play through the cut-scenes of AO and AE, fitted to the music, showing the included characters doing the caremelldansen in the foreground.

Any opinions on that?

Grieva 02-18-2010 12:26 PM

whats a flash compatible file? flash can handle videos right?

Carnix 02-18-2010 12:36 PM

whats a flash compatible file?

A Flash compatible file would be a file that Flash is compatible with. :p
To add an externally created background into my project, the file-type of the background would have to be compatible with Flash. Otherwise I would be incapable of importing it into the project.

:

flash can handle videos right?

Right! Since 2004's Flash MX, Flash has been highly compatible with most basic video file-types. And, if the particular file-type is incompatible, video file-types can be converted between each other in seconds.

Crashpunk 02-20-2010 01:54 AM

If you make a Flash verison. I'll make a Youtube Version ^^

I was thinking also the Logos depended on. For example, Molluck with Rupture Farms logos or a Slig with Slig Barracks logos

I also think the music should be left at the Caramelldansen Speedy cake remix.

Well to change it to be Youtube compatible I need only remove loading bars and other actionscript. I believe that Youtube accepts SWFs as a valid video format. Am I incorrect?

I have decided that should I not get aid with something more flashy, I will be playing clips from cutscenes of the first two games in the background with corresponding characters doing the caramelldansen in the foreground. Between the two layers I'll have a semi-transparent layer which periodically changes colour, directly effecting the cutscenes in the background.

I agree. I did at one point consider the Metal version as it is my favourite but I think it strays too far from the meme.

I believe so. Although this, and all further creations, will be published under the display name 'LT Mattmoo' so I'll probably be making a fresh channel.

It does sound like fun and I'll consider making one although it's unlikely she will feature in the final product.

Why do you have a fettish for Female Sligs Alexfili :D

The question mark ( ? ) is a form of punctuation used to denote a question. The sentence preceding a question mark should always contain one of the following words: Are, How, Shall, What, When, Where, Which, Who, Will, Why, Won't.

However, a sentence containing one of these words is not necessarily a question:

Question: Are you going to Spain today?
Statement: You are going to Spain today.
Question: Why are you going to Spain today?
Order: Tell me why you are going to Spain today.
Question: How are you going to Spain today?
Statement: I know how you are going to Spain today.
Question: Shall I come to Spain with you today?
Statement: I shall not let you!
Question: What are you going to Spain today for?
Statement: What you are doing is going to Spain today.
Question: When are you going to Spain?
Statement: I'm going to Spain when the aeroplane takes off.
Question: Where are you going today?
Order: Guess where I'm going today.
Question: Which country are you going to today?
Statement: I'm going to Spain, which is in Europe.
Question: Who are you going to Spain with today?
Statement: I'm not going to tell you who I'm going to Spain with today.
Question: Will you go to Spain today?
Statement: I will.
Question: Why are you going to Spain today?
Statement: I don't know why.
Question: Won't you tell me who you are going to Spain with today?
Statement: You won't tell me who you are going to Spain with today...
Question: Are you going to tell me who, or will I find out myself, and tell your mother what you're doing - and when she finds out where you're going, why, won't the old witch be furious?

I agree with Grieva on this. You didn't have to use so many words to point out Crashpunk's grammatical errors.

Now, on topic: I'm having a laid-back do-nothing period but am happy to declare that, for Alex if nobody else, I will be releasing a GIF form of a female version of the caramelldanse'ing slig that you can find on the first post of this thread.

My Error was the lack of a question mark :o

anyway Im going to start on a Slig 'Dasen
and I wish I could help you anymore Carnix, Saddly I don't know how to use Flash.

Carnix 02-24-2010 11:03 PM

You don't need to know how to use Flash to help me. Windows Movie Maker should be sufficient to construct a compilation of AO/AE cut-scenes that fit to the Caramelldansen. That is the first step and I'll be doing it once I finish the female slig. Unless someone has helpfully already done it for me. :p

Just tell me what order you want them in.

Before Ench gets to it again, "I'll be happy to do the cutscene editting for you" is a statement, not a question, and does not require a question mark. ;)

Well I was planning on having the cut-scenes in chronological order, from the beginning of AO to the end of AE. If you would like to do this bit for me you're more than welcome and I'll duelly give credit within the final product.

I encourage you to be imaginative and only have a few requests:

Firstly, it's important that this bit fits with the soundtrack. I'll send you the file I'll be using (Caramelldansen Speedycake Remix). I advise you to put this soundtrack into the video file so that you can fit everything to the music with relative ease.

Also I would appreciate it if you included the clip from the AO intro sequence where it scrolls past all the Glukkons and the clip further in the same game with Abe showing off his Shrykul form. This will encourage me to make every Glukkon and the Shrykul doing the caramelldansen. :p

If you succeed you will have shortened my production time greatly and I thank you humbly.
