I've had to deal with these people once before. My college put on a play involving the story of some young gay man in Wyoming that was tortured and murdered. I didn't see it, though I heard good things about it. I just went to the premier to play with the god hates fags people. It was a beautiful thing I tell ya, me and a few friends bought a whole bunch of condoms, the one with large amounts of lubricant and the bumpy antennae on the ends and flicked them into the twenty or so people that came to protest. I nailed a middle aged lady in the mouth; she nearly had a coronary and I beamed under my V mask.
All in all, I'm a bit disappointed that I didn't get arrested, because seeing as how I don't drink or do drugs or anything else to put me in handcuffs, I feel I'm missing out on an important part of my life. I still find it amusing, however, that this entire anti-gay sentiment is based on Sodom and Gomorrah, which is about rape and catering to angels so they don't toast your ass. Because more often than not in the bible they do. |

Hmm, was it mandatory for students to attend their demonstration? That's the main defense religious groups use at schools; they're not forcing the students to pay any attention to them.

My problem is that it's not right behind a mask, it's just an excuse for vandalism and it turns in the public eye from a 'Brave demonstration' or whatever to a lot of anonymous young hooligans spreading anarchy and chaos, leading to a public and media fueled backlash on the matter.
Also if you're going to wear masks wear masks more pertinent to the cause, if people keep mindlessly copying 4chan without even really understanding just what Moore's symbol stands for then I'm justified in keeping taking issue with them. |

I disagree with WoF. I think that doing this sort of thing while wearing the "uniform" of an organization shows that there is a certain solidarity between these people. This isn't just some guy who is yelling at you. This is a member of a group with no charters and no names who will make your life difficult even after this event is over. And you will never be able to press charges.

And do you really want your movement linked with an e-terrorist movement which strikes innocent people because they don't like them and finds tenuous excuses to raid epilepsy forums and hurt people? By acting out of personal satisfaction you ate changing nothing and actually pushing your cause more out of favour in the publics eye. I detest the ideals behind deindividualization and firmly believe that fighting mob rule with mob rule only leads to a sick sort of gang warfare, if enough people stand in solidarity you shouldn't need a mask.

My point seems to have got rather muddied by my heavy usage of emotional rhetoric so I'll concisely restate what my stance is here.
I do believe in protesting for what you believe in, either masked, wearing a costume or not, but I also think protesters must consider the full consequences of their actions on the lowest common denominator through mainstream media, further more the opposition will latch onto any Ad Hominem arguments they can use against the protesters, such as saturating the tabloids with phrases like 'e-terrorism' and linking them to anon's...colourful history of hurting people for shits and giggles. This is my main problem with such acts; they end up bringing the issue into the public eye but the fearmongering (Not helped by a masked group wearing a widely aknowledged symbol of anarchy) puts the unwashed masses firmly on the wrong side of the debate. Also, I have a personal problem with people banding together under that symbol, in that they seem to do it more for laughs than for ideals, it even says so all over their websites. |
