Unfortunately, I doubt you will be able to become PM except by being a dick to a great many people.

If you spend to much time thinking about your life's philosophy, when will you have time to actually live it?

Exactly.

Bullet Magnet 06-10-2008 01:13 PM

Thinking is very much a part of living for me.

Thinking is fine, I do it all the time too, but over-analyzing is bad business.

I'm not sure if we all have the same meaning for 'following your heart'
The best way to describe it is if I saw two guys beating up another guy. Two things play in my mind:
1) Those guys look tough! Screw this! I'm out of here.
2) I wonder why they are beating that guy up? Does he deserve it? What would be the consequences if I were to interlope in this situation?

I think #1 is what you mean by 'following your heart' Bullet Magnet. To be afraid and to want to save yourself. Now I also have a third thing:

3) There is no reason for one human being to harm another. It's just not right.

Then regardless of 1 or 2 I must assist this guy. My heart tells me that it isn't right for people to hurt each other and it wouldn't be right for me to just stand there either as this man gets beat for what ever reason.

As for over analyzing things... I do that a lot. I don't think it really matters though if one person thinks too much or someone just acts all the time. As long as the individual is happy with their life(and no one else is effected negatively by it) what does it matter?

mudling 06-11-2008 05:09 AM

But you can't just say follow your heart, pretty soon, it'll be "I beat up that innocent women and her kids because my heart told me to do so".
We know we get gut instincts, but we don't realy know much about them, maybe it's just what we fear, and so maybe you fear the consiquences of the guy getting beaten up.
Also, believe it or not, what we think is right and wrong, our morality, is defined by mainstream religeon, it doesn't have to be religon, but it's so powerful now that it is.
The mayans and aztecs practised sacrifice, it was a reward for them.
Today, our "hearts" would tell us to save someone from being sacrificed.
But if we were these people, our "hearts" would have told us something different.
Also, take for example, african tribes like the Zulus who purposly disfigured themselves so they would be less attractive as slaves, but would your "heart" let that happen now.
In conclusion, our "heart" can be easily influenced by the world around us, and what we believe in, and therefore, you cannot rely on a majority to follow it's rule.

There is no reason for one human being to harm another. It's just not right.

What if the one guy stole your car and your family and had sex with all of them?

Aromatherapy?

Strike Witch 06-13-2008 03:42 AM

Point.

mudling 06-13-2008 03:54 AM

Realy no reason?
So, then why do we do it?
What about neccessities, protection, honour, revenge, recources, power, politics, pressure or danger?
Sure, they're not right reasons, but they're still reasons.
Seriously think about what you're saying, if there's no reason to do something, then no one will do it, there is a reason for everything, I just wish people would see that.

Bullet Magnet 06-13-2008 05:52 AM

There are reasons to kill people. But they're not very good reasons, and cannot qualify the act. Except, perhaps,in self defence, where the only way to survive is to kill the other guy. Such occasions are genuinely rare.

Alcar 06-13-2008 06:25 AM

Pffft. Raping members of my family is enough justification for me to go on a rampage.

Alcar...

Bullet Magnet 06-13-2008 06:45 AM

I don't think I could vie for someone's death even if they killed my whole family and took everything I had. With nothing left, I'm not about to lose my humanity too.

Alcar 06-13-2008 07:24 AM

Whereas my justification would be the same. I've got nothing left, so fuck my humanity.

I don't think I could ever bring myself to end the life of another. I say that never having gone through experiences that even come close to murder or rape of my family members, so I don't know what I might do if I was under those circumstances.
