This topic was about the environment Meeches live in, right?
Look at this map: http://www.oddworld.com/alf/alfictio...assets/map.jpg Though it's not as easy to tell as it is in the book, the environment structure under the Paramonia and Scrabania icons vaguely reveals environment (a sort of yellow desert area under Scrabania, and a green one under Paramonia). If this is accurate, then the large, green area Rupture Farms is located on should theoretically be Meech habitat. Not much to tell from here, though... Dunno about the other map, considering the Scrabania/Paramonia colours have almost exactly the same environmental background, it seems silly. |
Given how large Rupture Farms is, and that it is built were meeches lived, I would think that they lived on grassy planes. After all, Rupture Farms woulds need a large semi-flat area.
It makes sense to me. |

Why didn't I think of that? Flat land was mentioned in factory building in Geography last week.
Maybe a savannah type area? Lorne did compare them to Hyenas, and that's where they live. Makes sense with their anatomy too, perhaps. |
Paramites have also been compared to hyenas, but their native environment isn’t savannah. Nonetheless, I’ve always pictured Meeches as living on flat plains and grasslands. Savannah could make sense as it’s not unreasonable to regard it as a transitionary biome between desert and forest. Because of this, savannah can also be quite a fragile environment, being eaten into by either desertification or natural succession into a more forested landscape. This might make ‘Meecharnia’ the small geographic area Meeches were confined to.

I think savannah's only remain such with heavy grazing. This either means that elums are more ravenous and/or numerous than we have previously anticipated, or else (and quite probably) there are more herbivorous species local to the region than we have been exposed to. Either way, the meeches have their prey.

When were Paramites compared to Hyenas? I have no recollection of this being mentioned anywhere, seldom officially.
I highly doubt Elums being the only herbivorous creatures, given we know of 4 predatory ones already. |
‘Oddfellows: Character Design the Oddworld Way’ was a lecture given by Farzad, Paul O’Connor and Chris Ulm at GDC ’01. They describe the behaviour of a Paramite as being ‘a cross between a spider and a hyena’.

But you knew Stangs were an Oddworld species, right? If not, I’d have to assume you haven’t been reading the Encyclopædia.
|
I dunno. I thought they might have been a Nodism.
|
The meeches lived maybe in what is actually the stockyard (it's near from Rupture Farms).
|
They lived in the Monsaic Lines... I asked this too in the previous Oddworld Q&A. And Max told me there are two screens in AO (in Necrum) where we can see Meeches but I don't rember it.
|
1. Necrum is from AE.
2. Someone said that Meeches couldn't live in Monsaic Lines, because they would kill Muds. 3. This is a theory that you can see Meech carvings in Monsaic Lines. I don't think it's true. |

But there are no Meech carvings in the games, only in other parts of these places not seen in the games.

Gosh, I just posted in OD. The world will now end. |
:
Although thinking about it that's a damn fine point. |
Ahh!! Splat as come to the OD! Every one horde the caned food, and run to the bomb shelters!!
Ok, if there was a temple built to worship meechs, then wouldn't that mean that it was built in meechs native land. And if that's true, then wouldn't that mean that Rupture Farms would of destroyed it, to make room for its own construct. |
This must be Splat's first visit to OD in about 4 years, surely a sign that Armageddon is nigh and the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse approach.
And yes, that is pretty much what I figured. Scrabania and Paramonia exist because Scrabs and Paramites are sacred. Abe had to travel through those areas because the animals were sacred. Since Alf said he would have had to travel through Meecharnia or whatever if Meeches were still alive, that means the place exists and Meeches were also sacred. I will say this, based on the 1 sketch of a Meech on TOGG, they are incredibly cool looking creatures. I just wonder what colour they were. I alwys figured they were an orangey-beige colour to look at them, but if they lived on open fields and were predators I'd imagine they were green. |
Meeches were not part of Shrykull. Are we to assume that there was a tribe of mudokons worshipping every large predator on Mudos?
|
Or every small predator for that matter (Fleeches, anyone?).
AIN and MeechShrykull...lol. |
Fleeches might have been sacred because of one of the Weirdos.
|
:
Not saying they revered every predator, but that Meeches were probably the 3rd sacred species. Of course, truth is we don't know. |

There is a wild type of Fleech. Maybe it's sacred.
