Mudling has negative rep. In the red, you lose your rep powers.

mudling 05-08-2008 01:04 AM

We don't want to go into there splat, trust me we don't.
And thanks for rubbing it in BM! (You do know I'm kidding right?)

Flamefox 05-08-2008 04:34 AM

Maybe its like a pecking order or something. Got to have someone to -rep...

Bullet Magnet 05-08-2008 04:45 PM

Is that a volunteer?

Wil 05-09-2008 03:18 AM

MeechShrykull1029 has more rep than Mudling? Ah. I see. I’ll see what I can do about that.

mudling 05-09-2008 05:22 AM

Ok, seriously, if people are giving him rep just to spite me, and for some kind of sarcastic wit, I'm pissed, you win. :K
Not saying they would of course, I just don't understand the humour of this forum. :)

Bullet Magnet 05-09-2008 09:07 AM

That's not the plan I've been hearing.

Fuzzle Guy and I would like to see reputation extended to blogs and blog comments. Perhaps the rep power can be halved for these less-essential messages. Also, many members find it tedious having to give, what, 20 members rep before they can rep the same person again? This figure should be reduced. It’s often hard to find 20 posts from 20 different members worth repping. I would literally die if I were constrained to this system.

Negrep ancient posts from inactive members ;).

How does MeechShrykull have higher rep than Mudling?

You don't know why?! I thought you were a Moderator.

Fuzzle Guy 05-11-2008 02:45 PM

That would be my fault.

Wil 05-25-2008 09:48 AM

I propose that members can select how much rep to give or take from a post. I fear giving many good posts the rep they deserve because my gargantuan rep power would far overshoot the mark. In my new model, rep power is the maximum (and probably default) amount of rep a member can give, and the actual rep given can be custom set by the giver as any integer between that and zero.

Is there any way of doing this, Pete?

Alcar 05-25-2008 01:17 PM

The reputation system is completely inbuilt. The closest thing to what you're suggesting is thread rating - which of course only pertains to a thread, as opposed to a post.

We could adjust the calculations for amounting rep power, however.

Alcar...

Nah. Maybe I’ll take my proposal to the vB folk. They don’t give up quite so easily. Actually, dampening rep power to reduce the frequency and magnitude of outliers would go some way to lessening my concern. I just think it’ll be like your proposal to change star calculation, with far too much thought needed to go into it to justify getting into it.

OddYouko 05-26-2008 10:18 PM

How do you give and take rep power?

Wil 05-27-2008 04:06 AM

You don’t, you give and take rep. Rep power is how much rep you can give and take. To rep a post, look for the small symbol that looks like a pair of scales: . Now, select whether you want to give rep (‘I approve’) or take rep (‘I disapprove’), and leave a comment if you wish.

abe is now! 05-29-2008 12:00 PM

Why when I give a -rep it tells me: "May you be lucky..."? I gave a -rep and I am unlucky if I receive a -rep!!!

Wil 05-31-2008 03:52 AM

This message is stupid and should be changed. I’ll start thinking of fantastical and whimsical alternatives.
