Actually, haemoglobin is maroon, and if it were already oxygenated then blood would still be bright red, wherever it is.

i thought, because of the giant vaccum of space, the oxygen would be drawn out of the haemoglobin...

Mojo 03-15-2008 11:44 AM

No it wouldn't. Oxygen is bound within the hemoglobin-molecule, think of it as a Fruit Loop, with a membrane of milk inside it. The milk is bound to the cereal because the milk tends to stick to the cereal, can't quite grasp the correct term. On a molecular scale, the oxygen-molecule "sticks" to the inside of the hemoglobin molecule, and so the hemoglobin effectively binds the oxygen.

And Laser, even IF all the oxygen was drawn from the blood, our blood isn't blue. Ever seen blue iron? Now, if our blood was based on copper, on the other hand...

ah good point, damn you science books!

Yeah the Bermuda Triangle is definitely not a black hole. However, the region does seem to have strong fluctuations in electromagnetism and other anomalies that have caused many disappearances or have been attributed to the various ill-happenings in the region.

Bullet Magnet 03-18-2008 08:29 AM

I'd quite like to see the evidence for that.

This has a pretty interesting theory based on the Hutchinson effect and John's research/experiments perhaps mirroring what happens in nature-specifically in the region on the Bermuda Triangle, but in various places around the world.
