I would really like to see Escargon (King Dedede's assistant in Hoshi No Kaabii) in Smash Brothers Brawl so that I could make him team up with King Dedede. I know he won't appear as a character but one can think up funny things to do with him. I even thought up a rather strange taunt for him (He twiddles his 'goatee' and says 'Not good enough to beat me').

I would also like to see Liquid Snake because Liquid Snake is a good character in my eyes.

And maybe as an assist trophy, I wouldn't mind seeing Kamek. He could do this really cool spell or something.

Anyway, I don't see the problem with having Sonic in a SSM game (or that weird 'Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games' thing). There'll only be a problem if the put Sonic in a Mario platformer or Mario in a Sonic platformer. That would not be right.
