Well, it usually starts by people wanting something different. Then it's better than other people's. Then they start fighting. Eventually a war breaks out. So it ain't much point wanting something unique so much to that extend of detail.
And no country is independent completely. People's lives depend on decisions of some clown on the top and his goons. |
:
Good lord, July 4th is highly overrated nowadays, much like Christmas and the majority of holidays, for that matter. Most people I know don't really care that it's the day we became "independent", they're all "OMFG WE GET A DAY OFF WORK LOLZ FIREWURKZ". Because of my location, it's going to sound like there's a fucking war going on outside all damn month. |

No point asking, he isn't going to return with a sutiable answer.

I was in Kansas city, so I went to the top and 20th floor of the hotel I was in and looked at all the fireworks across the horizon
It was pretty cool |

Because, you know, "Huzzah Now We Aren't Ruled by Another Country Day" just rolls right off the tongue. I mean, I'm not going to argue for or against the validity of the holiday, but god-fucking-damn. ... I spent my 4th of July getting ready to move and being annoyed by children with firecrackers. |

Yea I think it's a childish thing. 'We can take care of ourselfs, we are so great, we are so big, we own all of you and we don't need you!' is all the Declaration stands for, end of story. And if you want me to not be literal about it then I'll just say... I realy don't like cows... that cryptic enough for ya? |
I'm not arguing for or against the holiday itself, nor am I talking about the Declaration and what it means or doesn't mean. I don't care about your opinion on the Declaration, and I'm not going to (and so far, haven't attempted to) argue about it with you.
I meant what I said (although I said it sarcastically): it's called "Independence Day" because nobody is going to be so ridiculously over-literal (like you're being) that they would construe that America's celebration of the independent governing of itself is somehow related to America's (or ANY other country's) current economic or social dependence on other countries. Don't take it personally, let me just put it this way: one of my biggest pet peeves is people taking a single goddamn word and over-extrapolating it way past its limits based on a narrow definition. That's all there is to it. I get the same way when people on this forum get called a racist for being blatantly discriminatory about a certain religion or something, but the get their panties in a wad because "racist" isn't the right word to them. The end result is the same... they're still a fucking intolerant ass. |
Europe as a whole is dependent on America for saving it's ass in WW2. Civilized America (north and south) is dependent on Europe from exporting it's culture there.
|
:
Besides, the country itself is dependant of the people living in it because they named the country their way and the style of that country is their way. Therefore: No people-no countries. Just unnamed land itself. |
I'm sick of people saying that "we saved your asses in WWII"
Pah, may be true but that's the thing they take for advantage in arguments. Also, thinking that they are the ones who won the war. "Children, guess who kicked the German's asses in WWII? Us!! Weee!" *finger* |

I'm safe, since stealing from Carlos Mencia is the same thing as stealing from a thief. |

For once I agree with Havoc.
The victory in the European theater was brought about by the three distinct "world powers," and without any single one of them (that means not just America), Europe may have been completely lost. If anything, England owes more to Russia for keeping Germany fighting on two fronts than America for its influx of supplies and troops. No one ever gives Russia the credit they deserve for WWII. Then again, Stalin was almost as bad as Hitler. And some Russian soldiers regularly committed crimes against humanity. ... Then again again, there was that whole Dresden thing... *cough* |
:
"In the Soviet army it takes more courage to retreat than to go forward"-or something like that. Don't know who said that, but I saw it in Call of Duty. |
I was referring more to the forced labor camps than to their lack of proper supplies, but sure, we'll go with that too. :p

What? Troll Country bombed Dresden?
Anyway, this topic is old and outdated. Let's close it. |
Who put you in charge? Oh thats right, noone...
I still say we should have build a wall around Berlin, throw all the Germans in there and redevide all surrounding area to the neigbouring countries. Effecient space use ftw! |

Okay I'm about to go against myself:fuzemb:
I don't think hitler said to the country; "Hey, vote for the Nazi party and I'll make another world war by blowing Britain to kingdom come. It'll be great! Bombs, blood, Thousands of people dying. So if you want chaos vote the NAZI party!" |
