You mean the lazy and eating part?

scrabinator 07-17-2006 12:22 AM

I, like a few other people in this topic, stopped watching this show after about season 10. Occasionally I'll watch a new episode but they're just not as good. I used to love the classic episodes (and I still do!), but I just don't like the new ones and find many of them to be quite unfunny...

the simpsons movie comes out next year wonder if that will be the end of the series

Statikk HDM 07-17-2006 12:34 PM

Remember the 128th Episode special where Troy McClure says something like "Who knows how many wacky adventures the Simpsons will have until they are no longer profitable?" The Simpsons movie will be the death knell for the show, it will be FOX going out with one big bang and the show will be cancelled about a year afterwards. Thats how I see it anyway. The instant The Simpsons starts dragging on the bottom line the movie will begin with full force.

Nate 07-18-2006 05:30 AM

South Park has lasted long after the movie.

The X-Files did last long after its movie as well. But perhaps it shouldn't have.

Abeguy 07-18-2006 05:36 AM

I got Ned Flanders...Woohoo, Beatles are bigga' then Jesus foo!

Statikk HDM 07-18-2006 01:09 PM

Yeah, but I believe South Park was only in its 4th season at the time, not its 16th or 17th.

Mutual Friend 07-18-2006 08:28 PM

I'm Mr Burns, apparently. Hmmm.

Anybody else jazzed about the announcement of new Futurama episodes? Slightly off topic, but felt appropriate.

Jordan 07-18-2006 11:49 PM

I play saxophone like Lisa, she can play some really good tunes on that thing!

Whatwhatwhat?!?! More Futurama! *Waves Bender flag* Yay!

I know a kid who loves Futurama, but will never see the new episodes, as this news has probably killed him.

The main difference between Futurama and The Simpsons is the era it is set in.

"No sh*t!" I here you cry. Let me explain.

The difference is the scope, paving and general style of the writing will therefore always be different from the Simpsons, as they can addd pretty much whatever the hell bizzare stuff in it and still let it be vital to the plot.

You'll never catch "Sponsered by Arachnospores: the fatal spore, with the funny name!" on the Simpsons. Ever.

Nate 07-19-2006 06:37 AM

Plus, I think that what keeps going is the huge secondary cast in the citizens of Springfield. Futurama can't compare on that score.

(Which is partially what makes Futurama fresh, they need to innovate more)

Nath 07-19-2006 02:12 PM

NEW FUTURAMA!!!!!

YAY. I love that show more than i do the simps. i've got all four seasons of them and i watch them all the time. they're brilliant.

i'm well excited now.

Abe 01 07-21-2006 03:25 AM

I think the shows running out of ideas and is using pointless storys to please the fans. But its still watchable becuase of the jokes

Paramite Mask 07-28-2006 08:05 AM

When I always take these internet character polls it gives me the character I would least excpect... which, in this is case, is Lisa Simpson.
I also grew up around the Simpsons, and always loved the Treehouse of Horror specials. The Kang and Kodos bits were really humuor-like. Those are awesomeness is a basket.:D

Yeah! The fact that she can play jazz sax at the age of 8 astounds me.

Jordan 08-03-2006 11:42 AM

I've been wondering for ages... how did Ned Flanders' wife Maud die? I see episodes without her, what happened?

Bullet Magnet 08-03-2006 11:58 AM

Well... The Simpsons and the Flanders were at a sporting event... football or baseball, I don't remember. Anyway, Maude had just gone to get some refreshments and Homer was chiding the women who were blasting T-shirts out of bazooka-like devices. Maude came back and was talking to Ned, who in turn was complaining about her selection of eatables, when the bazooka ladies had had enough and blasted a round of shirts at Homer. He ducked, and they knocked Maude off the back of the stands, where she fell to her grisly death.

Later Homer also farted in the Ambulance, preventing all form of resuscitation. A bizzare death, to be sure.

Maybe because she is a cartoon character....
I love simpsons. You can find there everything from real life (Drunks, typical pub, money problems, bosses, "loyal" priests and mayors, teenagers) mixed with alot of sarcasm and irony.
Simply, waching simpsons, you are waching ordinary american (not only american) life full of humor and tragi-comedy.

Best character: Homer
Man with allmost no intelgence who is trying so hard to: be good father and hasbant [sp] and earn some money.

try to imagine show without him...

Oh! I had not realised!

Fuzzle Guy 08-11-2006 06:05 AM

I think the shows episodes have became a lot more, adult in the past 4 years. I think some of the recent ones are very good, but the best ones are during 98-01. After that they just became something that you could stare at the screen the whole episode with the same emotion on your face :-|

Statikk HDM 08-11-2006 06:30 AM

eh. Even though it isn't as good as the older stuff it is still a solid show. And better than Family Guy.
/Yeah, I went there. Whatcha gonna do about it?

No way, but family guy will never have the same appeal as the simpsons even if the new episodes of the simpsons are horrible, I guess it would be kind of picky to complain about the writing in a cartoon though.
