Xavier: Thanks for the nice feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed them! :)

Some games can be ripped by using format specific software on the computer. You scan the disc, extract the music, edit and then release it. But the Oddworld games are far more complicated than that. They require a line-in setup. This means that you connect the stereo cables of the console to the line-in port of your soundcard and record while playing the game. It's a very simple setup, but it's a far more tedious and demanding task because you actually have to play the game and record all the music. It's fun though, for a while, then you get bored and mentally deteriorated.

The Game Boy Advance rip is somewhat easier, you can emulate it on the computer and the just log the sound as .wav files. Simple, but questionable, since there's no way to confirm if the ROM dump was correct or not.

I'm quite sure Stranger's Wrath is rippable using a line-in setup, but it takes more than that to finish a rip and make it sound good. It requires some technical experience in the sound departement and you need to be able to work in a studio, editing, copying, pasting, sampling, mixing and whatnot. I've heard of a few SW rips here and there, but nothing that confirms a complete rip.

Matriar 07-16-2006 05:07 AM

Oh... okay.

Killy 07-16-2006 05:14 AM

Oh... okay.

Okay? Well, I guess I'm making this sound a whole lot complicated, but I'm planning on ripping SW so you can wait for that or go ahead and do your own recording :) I'd be glad to help, so feel free to ask any more questions. I have some illustrations that might help you understand how to connect cables and stuff like that.

Jordan 07-16-2006 05:18 AM

Ripping seems really complicated, I've gotta try it some day, some 365 days.

Killy 07-16-2006 05:27 AM

Actually, I'd recommend you never get into it in the first place.

There's not much to it, believe me. You'll end up missing out on alot in your life. I know I have. I'm qutting as soon as I finish this batch of projects.

skillya_glowi 07-21-2006 01:24 PM

Oh. My. Odd. Those are awesome. Great work!

Wil 07-23-2006 03:52 AM

Eh, none of the links seem to be working any longer, but I look forward greatly to hearing your latest efforts, Killy.

I have ripped the MO main menu screen music.

skillya_glowi 07-27-2006 01:27 PM

Are you planning on posting it anywhere here?

Wil 07-28-2006 03:59 AM

I haven't seen Killy on MSN to discuss hosting his latest rip. I doubt there's enough room on my server remaining.

This is a short one too, but it's an Oddworld game, nevertheless. There's some nice tunes in it, although it's not the kind of instrumentation you'd normally hear in an Oddworld game. Keep in mind that it's for the GameBoy Color, so don't expect the Budapest Symphonic Orchestra. I like these songs; Paramite Vault, Cobwebs, Possession and Ending ~ It's Not Fair!.

Enjoy.

EDIT: Forgot to post the download link:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/4e55x6

EDIT2: Good news, I got the FTP running and those of you who know how to use a properly configured FTP client without messing up my computer are free to download my rips using the following information:

Address: killy.dnsdojo.com
Port: 21
Username:
Password: psychoskitzo
Make sure you disable Passive Mode, only Active Mode works.

And when I say 'enter your username from the forums', that's the one you should use, otherwise I have no way of verifying who you are. Unauthorized users will be banned. Keep this information here and don't go posting it around the internet. I have a home computer, not a business server with support for 2000 simultaneous downloads.

Xavier 07-31-2006 10:52 PM

thank you :)

I just noticed the guy who did the MO GBA music, Tsutomu Fuzawa, lately was sound designer on Shadow of the Colossus

Whoa, that's quite impressive, seeing as Shadow of the Colossus is a masterpiece - and so is ICO (although the artists are different).

Aolath 09-21-2006 05:35 AM

Bump.

I was wondering if anyone here has a Stranger's Wrath complete gamerip?

Nate 09-21-2006 03:06 PM

Well, you can get the music of SW off the Oddworld website here so there's not much point ripping it from the game.

Xavier 09-21-2006 11:47 PM

I'm not sure that's realy all of it... but I guess that's the best you can get your hands on

Killy 09-23-2006 05:17 PM

I'm currently looking into the possibilities of ripping SW, for future reference.

suodd 10-30-2006 10:57 AM

I can't download the Abe's Oddysee and the Abe's Exoddus packs :(

Killy 10-31-2006 03:36 PM

I was kind of hoping Max could help me answer your question there, suodd. I guess he's been reorganizing his webspace, so the rips might be available for download later on.

ZANGG 10-31-2006 10:50 PM

NICE. O_O

Is it okay if I use some of these rips for Random Oddworld Adventures?

Edit: Also, which one is the one that plays when you're being chased by an enemy(other than a slig)? Edit2: In AO, I mean.

Killy 11-01-2006 12:50 AM

I don't recall, I'm not even sure I managed to record it, but I do know I recorded it for AE, so either use that one or we'll think of something else.

ZANGG 11-01-2006 07:28 PM

No problem. Thanks anyway.

no_us3rname 11-14-2006 04:09 PM

WOW! No way, you guys are obtaining the sounds and decibels of Oddworld?? Is there any one of you I can get in touch with to get a hold of these soundtracks???? And does it also include the ambient part of the games?? For instance just sounds of nature or vaults?? That would be absolutely amazing! Soundtracks for the Oddworld games have been impossible for ne to get, except for the Abe's Oddysee excerpts, two to three Munch tracks and Stranger's Wrath ost from the official Oddworld website..

no_us3rname 11-15-2006 05:58 PM

Is there nobody available anymore regarding this subject..??

Well found, SligStorm. I hadn’t told anyone about them, yet…

I hope Killy doesn’t mind: I put them up spontaneously after ‘no_us3rname’ posted.

Arxryl 11-16-2006 07:29 AM

I can't wait to listne to the Exoddus soundtrack, and the other one's! It seems you have put a lot of work into them, so great job! I'll post again or edit this post when I finish downloading it!

Killy 11-16-2006 01:41 PM

Sorry guys, I've been busy studying non-stop this and last week, preparing for exams so I'm unable to hang around here as much as I used to.

no_us3rname: I hope you find what you're looking for, ambience isn't really what I've been aiming for, but nevertheless - I hope you'll be able to enjoy the rips...

Max: I don't mind at all, I'm just glad someone finds use for these, thanks again for hosting them, much appreciated mate. Also, let me congratulate you on your meeting with the Lorne couple! Seems like you and Xav had a great time.

no_us3rname 11-16-2006 04:29 PM

Killy, Max, SligStorm.. thanks a whole frekkin bunch!! I am now downloading the .rar files of Abe's Exoddus and Munch's Oddysee.. Abe's Oddysee doesn't download though for me. But I am already very grateful to all of you who did the ripping, uploading and linking. Wish there was anything Oddworld related I could send you as a gift or rarity.. but I don't have that much of a rarity file or anything.. anything in music any of you'd like???? un-Oddworld related.. I've got a lot of Flaming Lips material you know.. (ever heard of them?)

plus soundtracks to old games like the Neverhood, Monkey Island series, Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max, Grim Fandango, ********.

If anyone's interested in anything of the above, I'll gladly send it to you as a gift in return.

Levi.

no_us3rname, whilst the lucasarts soundtracks are available for free (and approved) download, the Psychonauts one is only available for purchase and, as such, we can't allow you to offer to give it to anyone.
