Stranger was a mixture of feline and ape, all I see here is a pussy cat, it has most of the features of a cat. Actually, it looks like it has a bit of wolf in their with that jaw.
The goats faces, I think they look slighly more human than an averge goat, with demon characteristics. |

:fuzmad: AARgh! I am absolutely disgusted with the concept art!! Oh My Goodness! It's so horribly...unoriginal! It doesn't belong in Oddworld. It belongs in some common first-person shooter. Where are all of Oddworld Inhabitants' ideas!? This looks so freaking ordinary, I just want to scream. |
This is kinda off topic, but I think maybe, at the beginning of the game, he starts out human-looking, and, as a result of the "rabies", he turns into that anthro-cougar thingie...
And, you have to admit, although it sounded lame in the original article in GameInformer, that might be because most people wouldn't have understood a bunch of Oddworldian terminology, so they described it in a way that the average Non-Oddworld fan would have understood... My girlfriend, who is not a nerd like us, agrees. She says others of her kind would not have had enough of an attention span to sit through reading a lengthy description that would have made sense to any of us Oddworldophiles... |
I must admit the environments look kick ass. The character concepts are god awful.

So you are saying that Steven olds art were compelled in the 1 and 2 series of quintology.
And Farzad was dedicated to 3 and 4? But Farzad created the glukkons? |
Steven Olds did most of the character design in AO and (I think) AE as well. Farzad was also working for OWI at the time but Steve was the lead PD.
Farzad was the lead PD in MO and designed Munch and the vykkers. Farzad had left the company by the time they were working on stranger. Raymond Swanland (sp?) designed stranger. |
Steven Olds wasn't credited in Abe's Exoddus, but he did contribute designs for Munch's Oddysee, which started in 1996, such as the Chronicler. He definitely created Glukkons, but as OWI love iterations, Farzad would have worked on their designs later on.
I think Silvio Aebischer designed Fangus. He's responsible for Grubbs, Scuba Toads and lots of Outlaws. |
Fangus looks way too human. I'm glad he got canceled too.
|
I'll cancel you, punk.
|
:
Could this be the fact that they are moving to movies. Using old drawings to recreate the story. :o |
Farzad didn't do much for SW... actually I never saw any artwork of Stranger with his signature ;)
|
Well, he'd left before work started on it, hadn't he?
Ninjaxe, changing artists is an issue that can affect several media, but Oddworld has managed to remain unscathed. The excellent filing system and detailed notes made by the conceptual artists help future artists to recreate the characters accurately. The changing style only affects new creations. I doubt it has anything to do with the movie. |
Quick concept art question.
Im not the best with names , so who created the outlaws? same guy who created stranger i presume? |
Silvio Aebischer (sp?).
|
you also have to know the concept artist don't have 100% control on what they design, it has to be what's in Lorne's vision
|
So how the heckles could Lorne have a stupid concept like fangus " in his vision " . Those art peices are so un oddworldy!
|
Yes, these Fangus pictures sure are oddly unodd.
|
I don't know... just keep in mind he is da boss
|
And remember that we are discussing a character based on one or two images and a vague description. Remember that there was almost universal loathing for the Grubbs when we first saw them on the X-Factor special and now they are generally well-liked.
|
And the clakkerz! We now all love a good clakker.
|
I don't love them, I tolerate them
I can't call that the same |
Yeah, I was just kidding.
|
I love the characterisation of the Grubbs, but their visual design still looks lacklustre to mine eyes.
|
Is it because they look like penises?
It's because they look like penises. |
yeah, they look a bit too much like that, it's true...
maybe to attract a more female audiance ;) |
They look overly simplistic, humanoid, and uninteresting.
I really wish they'd've used mudokons. Mudokons would have worked perfectly. :( |
well abe has to stay the only savior of the mudokons I guess... that's why they needed another opressed people
|
I liked that new natives were introduced, I mean it would be slighty off if Mudokons worshipped Steef, I just don't see it along with Scrabs and Paramites. But yeah, Grubbs look like dicks.
:
|
It just makes me wonder, why the hell would Lorne put penises in a game? Pretty lame question, but still...
