Because Sam + Skillya are big + they are the only known females
|
No. There is Maggie the Glukkon Queen and Frayda the Grubb rebellion leader.
|
Ok, I have never played MO. Is Lady Margaret fat?
|
Playing MO wouldn't matter much when identifying female characters, the queens weren't featured in it.
There is a picture of Maggie somewhere on TOGG, and no, she is not fat. Sam is, but Maggie is not. |

Maggie's pretty fat in The Art of Oddworld Inhabitants. There are two known designs for her, just as there are two completely different designs for Meetles.
Not forgeting all the other female Grubbs and Clakkers, plus Jo' Mamma. |
Woooooaaah!!!!
THAT'S a woman? I mean, is that a woman??? :eeek: My image of a female oddworld hero is more... uhm... handsome. |
Oh, you mean like those lady Clakkers were?
|
 No :p. By no means my female hero were a Clakker. No chicken nuggets in the hero's world
She may were a Mudokon or a Steef. Steefs rule :D |
:
Actually, Sam is the only mudokon with an actual gender. The many children she births (Abe included) are sexless. |
Abe and the other mudokons are sexless? Why are they wearing loincloths? :crafty: What are they hiding?
|
:
I'll let Max handle this one. :dodgy: |
It's okay, mate! :D
I just wanted to tease you with these questions  Don't dismiss me. |
For reasons best left to Lorne and the designers, Abe and his sexless buddies are fully equipped with the tender bodybits necessary to project waste cleanly. That's the only way I could describe it without sniggering…
Give me a roaring Steef any day of the week. |

Stop looking at my Oddamn waste release valves!
|
No, OANST, you're too sexy.
|
:
|
Yes, but I wasn't counting them. You're supposed to be able to read my mind, people!
|
If it has to be anyone it has to be Abe has started it all and he rocks so I would like to see him in another game. :D
|
I'm tired of Abe. He's cool, but I think his ship has sailed until we see him inevitabely paired up with Munch again.

Industrial Character ftw!
I think OWI's next move in games should be trying to combine the lush spiritual native feeling of AO with the exciting and immersive industrial atmosphere of AE and not let it turn out as a dud like MO. To be honest I think it would be awsome to be able to play as a Glukkon or a Slig fighting the system. It would also push the storyline a good step ahead to where it needs to be. |
:
You know what would be a neat idea? Other than a waffle-iron and a mail-sorter combined in one? If you were a member of some secret industrial rebellion society. It would be reminiscent of the MO promo video with the possessed BB; chuckin' Soulstorm grenades and deflecting enemy fire with your automatic, arm-mounted shield. Wander dark industrial hallways littered with vendos, receive commands from the rebel leader (which would likely be a rogue glukkon that appears on the tactical device on your arm). *ponders* |
Ah yes, wonderful thoughts. A man can dream, a man can dream...
|
I will add my vote to this, all of the characters would be alright to see in newer games, except.... the game play should not be like it is in Strangers Wrath. I mean the game feels more like an extended version of a sidequest that an actual OddWorld game. Just running around shooting up and capturing what-not was pretty boring. Where is the puzzles and other that the first 3 games had incorporated in the game play. The graphics is pretty good, but the game play is pretty boring unless you like Doom and other shoot-em up games. For a RPGer like me, I found the game to be disappointing and felt I wasted my money on the game when I was expecting a game continuing like the first three. Is there anyone else out there that feels this way.

I didn't check back in this thread for a while, so to clear things up:
By "hairy egg machine" I was referring to the queens, who are largly imobile, as far as I can tell. I also think that the Maggie in the art book is the definitive one at this stage. I personally would welcome a female character, but of who we've seen so far I would only play as the Grubb chieftess. The Mudokon, slig and Glukkon reproductive systems seem to be based upon ant, termite, bee etc reproductive systems. However, in insects all the workers are sexually undeveloped females, whereas on Oddworls they appear to be male. In insects many queens are fertilised only once to produce all the workers, or unfertile eggs produce workers and fertile ones produce queens and drones/vice versa. A colony is more like a single oranism, where the queen takes the place of the brain, mitosis and reproduction, and the workers and soldiers- you get the idea. Which makes me wonder about the purpose of Mudokon villages that don't have a queen. How do they support the village in the long run? I'll leave you to answer that one. I think that Jo' Momma is some kind of queen to, if you listen to the chatter in SW. But this link with insect colonies provides an interesting storyline opportunity to exploit in the future: Anarchy in the hive. Sometimes in bees and similar insects, a hormonal imbalance in the general populace can leave workers laying eggs everywhere and trying to start new colonies. Such nests are usually destined to die, but it would be interesting if that were to happen in Oddworld. But, being males, that may well just lead to a bunch of sligs humping everything, depending on the writer's interest. And in terms of future gameplay, we need one that creates a massive free roaming environment that is semi-sand box. I bet you all know games like that. But imagine if it were Oddworld... Or we could just have a sort of Oddworld MMORPG with some storyline. That would cirtainly drag OWF out of these so called "dark times". Now if this post doesn't give you bums something to talk about I don't know what will. |
