I'm working on a card game, though I want to get the rules straight before I try making them.

I'm wondering if addicts (or oddicts, I like that) are proper fans. In medical terms, an "addict" is someone who cannot stop doing or using something. Sometimes this is because (in the case of smoking) your body settles into the condition where nicotine is present, and then cannot function properly without it. In the case of food, drugs and stuff, the body becomes used to, almost "immune" to the effect- so not eas much dopamine and endorphins (the reward and feel good hormones) are released, so you need more. The upshot of this is that an Oddworld Addict doesn't enjoy Oddworld as much as the rest of us, so has to play more in order to get the same thrill.

Oddiction, on the other hand, has no medical term, so stick with that to apply to hardcore fans. Be an Oddict, but steer clear of Addiction.

Hmm. I have just realised that I'm a total nerd.

Being an addict doesn't mean to have all the bloody merchandise of Oddworld, it just means you love nothin more but oddworld.
I don't have crap of Oddworld except copies of Munch's Oddysee and Stranger's Wrath.
There's really not much merchandise on Oddworld, although I wish those bronze statues of Stranger were fer sale...I'd die fer 'em...:crying:
And the Oddoworld art book...
But, yeah...don't think it's a fad of having so much Oddworld stuff taht makes you an addict. It'll make you a fanatic.

Bullet Magnet 04-10-2006 12:11 PM

Yes! fanatic is a better word. It can be abreviated to fan. Aaaaaaand we're back where we started. I like Oddict, it's way better.

I cannot properly say that I am an "addict", because an addict sticks to that subject and only that subject. Being a writer, I get different inspiration for different stories and ideas, Oddworld or not. But once I get hooked on something for a while and really get into it, I stick with it! I am interested in many things because they are inspirational to me, (Godzilla, Mario, Donkey Kong Country, Resident Evil, Oddworld, etc.) and all I need is my imagination! Plus, being an addict may ruin a person's social life too quickly (although it is nice to get away from boring reality into a story once in a while) So, no, I am not considered an "addict."

you know how most people say guys thinks about sex every 7 seconds, well for the time inbetween those 7 seconds im only thinking about oddworld and lorne lanning's greatness

Sekto Springs 04-11-2006 04:40 PM

At least the sex seconds and oddworld seconds don't go in hand, like Rydel ;)

nicksmith41 04-11-2006 04:44 PM

(Offtopic somewhat still Oddworld related)
lol, if someone is thinking about sex and oddworld at the same time i dont know what they would be like thinking about cause really the only females we have ever seen are the clakker women and like u cant classify that as attractive to the human eye cause if so...thats just wrong their chickens

Bullet Magnet 04-12-2006 05:28 AM

I vote that anyone who finds Clakker women sexually attractive should be banned from the forum, for their own good. They have serious issues.

Okay, that was immature of me. They clearly need to stay and recieve our counsel.

Seriously, though, alot of fans would say I'm crazy if I said "is Oddworld merchendise really a good thing?"

"He's crazy!" I hear you cry, but hear me out. As much as we'd all love to bankrupt ourselves on as many plush paramites as we could buy, and OWI would need the money to produce feature-length films, they would be squeezing money out of the one group who would buy them: us. And coming dangerously close to the very corporate monsters they portray as enemies in their games. I, of course, would love a plush paramite.

Oddworld isn't nearly as big as, say Bungie, who produce loads of halo related toys and stuff. And who is behind Bungie?

We just have to weigh what the fans want (stuff!), and what Oddworld stands for, which is AGAINST corporate greed, but also FOR what the fans want. A dilemma.

I think cuddly fuzzles would sell way better than paramites anyway.

Marco the Glukkon 04-12-2006 05:59 AM

Basically, Oddworld should not be about merchandise (although that would be cool to have merchandise) But it is about our human greed and it's corruption on the world and how we should preserve the world in it's natural beauty, not just for money and greed. It's also about how an average Joe can make a difference in the world.

Personally, I think having a pet Scrab would be awesome. It would be the same as my dog cause he's ornery lol.

Bullet Magnet 04-12-2006 08:17 AM

Having a pet scrab is about as stupid as having a pet Tyrannosaurus, writing a psychotic artificial intelligence connected to the internet, or creating a virulent zombie virus in a government lab- it's all gonna blow up in your face eventually. Yes, having a scrab would be awesome. The scrab probably thinks the same about eating you.

Paramites are a way better choice. Like, dogs, they have a pack mentality, so may integrate you into its family.

It makes me think. What if humankind had domesticated and bred kangaroos instead of dogs? I think it would be cool, and reveal alot more about the human condition than we know now...

Dark Elite_H2 04-12-2006 08:18 AM

Of course!
Do you see how Oddworld goes about? Greedy Glukkon CEO's are taking over the land, just because they want profit?
Lorne is reflecting some of our ways we've been on Earth today. Some of us are greedy push-overs, while some of us rather live in peace.
Hell, some o' us are just Average Joe's! (No offence, Joe ;) )

Yes. Yes they would, BM. ;)

Marco the Glukkon 04-12-2006 10:10 AM

Hey you never know, a pet T-Rex would be awesome too! lol. < Big Dino Fan :) But then again, my cats would go missing if Scrab got ahold of them... I have a huge field for some paramites and scrab herds to run around in, so I am not too worried lol.

Oddworld talks about a guy named Abe, whom so many relate to because he is just like us, who tries to help his fellow species against corruption. If you think about it, it's like how society runs today and the effects it has on our world.

monkeybait 04-12-2006 12:38 PM

are you an addict if you think there's an 1) OW history book, 2) Think you're special because you have some clay models... um... you made..., and 3) Think there's and OW trilogy or even 3 of the 5 games in the quintology out...

Sorry, bud...
Just 'cause you have all your cool made up stuff like OW history books, doesn't make you the biggest OW fan ever.
