Those were corporate locations and I'm sure Lulu had to pay for the right to place those there.
|
I don't think he did, espesially because he had no Moolah to put those there (until he made Moolah off of the, of course).
Maybe it's required for every Glukkon to have one. |
Why the hell would it be required? That's like saying the glukkons WANT to give all they're money away to lulu.
|
I'm sure he had some money. How else did he get vendos in the first place?

Oh god people please! Would you please stop trying to find a logical explaination for EVERY nut, bolt and dustbit in Oddworld? Trying to find/explain/make up the background of gluks, muds, ect is fun and fine. But don't get started on WHY there is a Lulu vendo in their offices. Let me tell you why there is a vendo in the Glukkons offices: Because without it you can't donate the money... and you couldn't complete the game. It's done for gameplay, just as half the other things in Oddworld games.
Dedication is one thing, but obsession is another. Oddworld is a universe created and made up by no more then 3 people, alterd by a bunch more people and eventualy shaped so that it would fit into a game. It's a great universe, yes, but made up non the less. Not everything has an explaination, not everything has a background. Geez... |
But our enjoyment of the games and the world would be much greater if there were an explanation for every nut and bolt. I know that the Lulu fund certainly irritated me when I was playing MO.
|
WHY?
The Lulu fund was one of the most kick-butt things ever. How could you not like it, it was simple, interesting, made a lot of sense and it fas Fun to do. How could you not like it? (By the way, was it in the original Munch's Oddysee?) |
So... wait did all those lulu "Vending thingies" just appear in Glukkons' offices? Or did they buy them. I also find it strange that there are bars to Glukkons' offices. What do they do if they have to... answer nature's call? I asked this on another forum and someone said that Glukkons wear diapers. I find that hard to believe.:D
|
Ugh... there are bars infront of the office doors to prevent you from going to places with the glukkon where they don't want you to go... again: Gameplay issue.
|
I know. I'm just saying they could've had sliding doors.

It was not in the original MO. The original plan was for Abe and Munch to sneak into factories that Lulu was working in, control him and set the factories up to make lots of money so that Lulu would earn moolah and get promoted. Read more about it in Paul O'Connor's designer diaries here: http://www.oddworlduniverse.com/toa/...ies/DDMO15.htm. |
Ah man, it's SUCH a shame all that got scrapped from the game. It would have made MO so much more enjoyable. Why did it got scrapped anyway? Cuz they didn't have the resources to support an engine like that? :(.
Shame realy. IMO, with this plan in mind I'd almost say; Do a re-make of MO or impliment the idea in some other future game. Anyway, now we know the purpose of the lulu fund. Replacement idea to fill up the gap of lulu promoting trough getting factories straightend out again. No background whatsoever it would seem, just a fill up plan. |
I suspect it was more to do with having the deadline of being an Xbox launch title that they had to simplify the gameplay somewhat to get it out the door.
|
He got donations by himself, and started up one fund box. Ever since his fundbox collection has grown. ;)
Let's just say that Vykers labs are rich, even if there's no one to posess/use the money. |
Not realy. Vykers Labs got 3 million for a few glimpses off time. Now they can use it to rebuild the place ;).
|
An alternative explanation of why the Lulu Fund replaced actual possession of Lulu is, as I said earlier, there was a problem in early game designs that OWI worried that Lulu was too major a character, almost as much as Abe and Munch, and they wanted to downplay him.
As for why there are Lulu Fund Vendos in Glukkons' offices, I take the strictly gameplay view that it's there because it has to be. It's no different from the oh-so-conveniently placed Vendos in Munch's Oddysee or the SoulStorm Vendos in Abe's Exoddus. |

Survivers, for one. And employers from other Vyker Labs.
|
Survivors of 4000 tonnes of steel, 5000 gallons of water and 3000 spooce shrubs, burning down on them and crashing into rocks? I THINK NOT!
There were other Vykers labs? |
EDIT: Whoops. Didn't read page 2 of the thread before posting.
Maybe - looking at it outside of gameplay issues - the glukkons got the Lulu machines so that they could enjoy a good laugh at Lulu's stupid plan. I didn't think there were more Vykkers Labs. I figured there was just the one ... the name of the place - Vykkers Labs instead of Vykkers Lab, coupled with the sheer size of the place, suggests to me that that was the only one. And as a side note: despite the bars on the glukkon office doors, there is a level where you can get Abe into a glukkon office in MO. In Splinterz. You'll need to get Munch a Bounce to get him up the ledge. But the thing is, there is a little chant suppressor that zaps Abe if he gets too close and kills him in one hit, regardless of his health status. |
There are more Vykkers Labs. Vykkers Labs is an enterprise, and the mothership in Munch's Oddysee was Vykkers Labs 12, suggesting there are (or were over time) at least 11 other labs.
|
One of them being in the lobby in Abe's Exoddus.
|
Okay, so .... how do we know it is Vykker's Labs 12? I'm just curious to know where that number comes from.
|
because it's written on it ;)

You can hardly see it. It does look somewhat like a 12, though.
What number is the one in the Lobby? Anyone know? |
You have a good point thier cullen heath
|
Do you mean the door in the FeeCo Depot? We know nothing about it; some discussion has been held regarding whether it leads to a ground-based labs or an airship terminal to take people to the floating labs. Do a search to see the previous discussion on this topic.
