Thats well......Odd.
(she is living not a machine right?) |
I was talking figuratively. She's a creature who's sole biological purpose is reproduction.
Sure, she has branched out to entrepreneurship and the odd reign of terror, but that's just a hobby really. |
do you know why she needed new lungs and especially gabbit lungs?
|
My guess is that she needed lungs due to heavy smoking or some other problem, possibly. Now about Abe being a terrorist, I can definitely see why some would think of him as one since he has killed so many and blew up so many factories. But to me, what makes him different than a terrorist is that he is truly fighting for a just cause-to free his people from slavery. Although some people have compared him and Osama Bin Laden, I honestly do not think that that is a good comparison because Bin Laden is not trying to overthrow corporations in order to free his people from slavery. I see Abe as more of a freedom fighter than a terrorist, but that's just my opinion. Although I could give various other reasons as to why I think Abe is a freedom fighter, I honestly don't feel like it right now. I guess you could call me lazy. :p
|
If you asked Osama, I'm sure he'd say that he's fighting to overthrow a corrupt and immoral political system/culture.
'tis all a matter of perspective. |
Yes, he most definitely would, but what I meant is that he isn't fighting to overthrow it in order to free his own people from oppression, such as being held as slaves. That's all I meant by that. ;) But you're right-it is a matter of perspective because while some people see him as a terrorist, others see him as a hero. Some of the Afghans, for example, think that he's attempting to overthrow an immoral government while most Americans (and some other nations) see him as a figure that is attempting to inflict terror into others.
|
He would consider it as freeing his people from the oppression of the western world, not to mention he wants to push American troops out of Saudi Arabia where he thinks they don't belong.
|
Oh, he most definitely would, but there are still slight differences between himself and Abe, in my opinion. Such as America wanting to "pick off" Osama because of the September 11th incidents and other things. With Abe's case, the Glukkons were more than likely wanting to kill him as soon as he laid eyes on their plans (Mudokons as chow) possibly because he had seen too much. This was evident in the game because we had to blow up sligs/etc or they would shoot us even at the very beginning. In other words, Abe more than likely would have been killed even before he became a hero and got the Shrykull because of what he had seen. I guess I could call his actions at that point self-defense. What I'd really like to see in a game is a Glukkon's or Slig's perspective because, honestly, we don't really have a balanced view right now, if you know what I mean. Then maybe we could realize the truth about the incidents in the game.

Ya know thats an interesting thought because look at this, Stranger at least in my own opinion reminded me of some sort of cross industrial/ native character. A lot of the inhabitants of Stranger were like that, at least for me they were. Now the idea of viewing Oddworld through the eyes of an industrial character may not be so far out there. Perhaps Stranger is sort of a precurser to that vision. Could it mean as future Oddworld stories (notice I said stories not games), come into the spotlight, will the characters we encounter become more and more industrial, thus allowing us to view the world in an industrial perspective?
Stranger was simply a strong and powerful character with an attitude. Yes he didn't believe in guns and he used live ammo and he is a Steef which are guardians to the Grubs, but inspite of that trait he posses could he have industrial blood in him? In my opinion in Stranger, the line between Industrial and Native are rather intermix except for Grubs and all. |
*In case you haven't finished OSW, SPOILERS*
Steef, Stranger's species, are protectors of grubbs, who are the embodiment of the "native" scene in OSW. Stranger himself has given up, or possibly never knew, the native protector role. Instead he's allied himself with the Clakkers (who hate him once he's outed as a steef) in order to fit in with the dominating industrial culture. Through no fault of his own, he's thwarted in this endeavor and becomes indebted to the natives. If he'd had his way, he would've been an industrialist, although in terms of species roles he's clearly a native. For Stranger the choice was a question of self-preservation. He just thought the industrialists were going to come out on top. It seems like Stranger would probably have to NOT know the precise nature of his genetic and cultural heritage in order to do this, but I don't know how much solid evidence there is either way. |
I've never understood the idea of the characters in OSW blurring the line between the native industrial races. The Stranger aside, all the characters either strive to live in harmony with nature, or they're invaders who treasure Moolah at the expense of the natives. Their levels of technology and importance in Mudos's social structure aren't relevent as far as I can see, because their motives and philosophies are clear.
Stranger, despite feeling pressured to blend in with industrial creatures, actually dislikes Clakkerz, Outlaws and Sekto - so why is he trying to get on with them in the first place? Even as he's trying to raise the Moolah for his operation he knows he prefers to spend time with nature and feels an affinity for the Grubbs. I can only conclude he indeed cannot envisage a life with them, regardless of how much of his herritage he's aware of. Is Stranger a terrorist? He's led an uprising against Sekto's forces and destroyed another profitable corporation. I do wonder how his reputation will develop. If his notority grows to parallel Abe's, that would be a much more plausible reason for them to combine forces than to simply bump into each other. Abe is trying to unite the fragmented Mudokon race, so it follows he may try to ally other native peoples to his cause. I do want to find out what happens to Stranger, though. |

I'd think that stranger would become a legend, as in something that people don't actually believe is true. After all, the clakkerz didn't initially beleive that there were any steefs (possibly ever) so maybe they'd just ascribe Stranger's accomplishments to forces of nature and just laugh at Grubb stories of a great hero.
In a way, he'd become something to scare the children at night, a boogie man if you will. |
yeah, that would have been cool if stranger had to bounty up abe and possibly munch too. then at the end they would fight and no matter what stranger losses then it goes back to abe and munch games(the real quintology)
|
...not going to happen. Apart from the fact that they live on other ends of the continent and the fact that Stranger has given up bounty hunting and that Lorne has said that Stranger and Abe will never meet.
EDIT: I know that last sentence is bad english but I can't be f'ed right now. |
oh i know it wont happen, i was just saying that it would be cool if thats how stranger's wrath actually was.
|
I would say Stranger would be called a terrorist, but he actually led an armed invasion, which isn't normally considered a terrorist tactic. He'd probably go more along the lines of rebel leader, or legend, as NDW suggests. I'd very much like to see more of Stranger's story.
As for why Stranger is trying to get money for an operation to allow him to live among creatures he dislikes, I honestly believe that he's trying to take the easy way out. Whether or not he loves or hates the industrialists, he thinks that joining or blending into their society is the best way for him to survive. I always thought that that was what made him "weak inside" and strong outside. |
I dont want to see more of strange'rs story, I want to see the old Oddworld come back.(well I would, but I would MUCH rather see abe and munch)
|
Perhaps not a whole game about stranger, but I'd like to see a bit more about him.
a book would be fine ;) |
Was Stranger's Wrath pre-magog? What I want most is for OWI to resume the porjects of Squeek and such.
|
No, SW takes place right about the time Munch's story ends (right, Xav? Max?). I assume that the Magog Cartel is still in operation, but their influence isn't as strong in that region.
Remember on Stranger's bio, they said he'd recently bought an item produced by Splinterz; a pretty good indication that they're still chugging. |
right... it's a bit after the end of MO. ;)
|
what did stranger buy from splitnerz?
|
From http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/adventu...ml?sid=6113972

what is the neaklace for?
do they mean file like papers or for your nails? what is this splinerz boot stuff? and yeah if you look closley, stranger is in desprate need for a toothpick. |
Well Interesting enough isn't Mr. Sekto a member of the Magog Cartel? Say part of the Octigi's branch of the Cartel? I aways thought he had some ties with the Magog.
Ya know what would be a cool story? Since Sekto never really died at the end and ended up swimming up stream to some place else, what if he meets a bunch of Glukkons who take him in? Sekto and Mollock the Glukkon running a new and approve Rupture Farms. Theres a challange for Abe and Munch. |
that would be very cool but that thing in the water cant be sekto because h is laying on the ground
|
actually it was sekto...
sekto is only the "head" that used a body from someone else. |
ooooh. so sekto was controlling the old steef who was actually nice and wanted the water to come back?(i thought that sekto was a sick feak steef who collected heads of his own kind. and that thats what he looked like after he tok his head out of his shirt.)
|
Correct, cullen. I don't think Sekto belongs to the Magog Cartel. His office and the dam is decorated with symbolism quite distinct from the Cartel logo. Long ago it was rumoured that Octigi formed the Oddworld Mafia. Ironically enough, Molluck joined this to exact his revenge on Abe - but that's just purely rumour.
