I think the Gorillaz are moving up in teh world, cos Feel Good inc got quite a good acclaim

Feel Good Inc. has an absolutely amazing video, to say the least.

This is going to sound stupid, but waht exactly IS ska? As for Greenday, bleah, don't like them much. Rock these days annoys me.

I don't know if anyone is with me on this, but I hate the Gorillaz because they are SO overplayed. I mean... rather than repeating the same song over an over, why not play some OTHER damn songs for once? Maybe give some other bands some publicitiy?

TheRaisin 08-02-2005 04:39 PM

As a general rule, I hate any song used in one of those puke-inducing iPod commercials, Walkie Talkie Man being the exception. I liked Feel Good Inc. until I started hearing it over and over, and I began to question why the song is so damn popular in the first place.

This thing called "ska" is the most mysterious musical genre I have ever heard mentioned. At least now I know that The Aquabats fit into this genre. That helps me get the concept a bit. But perhaps someone could explain it a bit?

I'm currently listening to Loser by Beck and extremely digging the sitar thing going in the background. Oh, Beck, whatever happened to you?

Kimon 08-02-2005 04:46 PM

Ska is essentially rock with brass.

Xvans13PuffX 08-02-2005 06:26 PM

Bah...people will dislike me even more if i tell wat im listening to as of right now, but here goes nothing. (sorry im weird) Okay well im listening to Good Charlotte, because im a huge GC freak, but other bands that i like are My Chemical Romance, The Used (and yes thats where used:) got his user name) System of a Down, Green Day, Blink 182, HIM, Pink Floyd *was raised around that kinda music*, Led Zepplin (sorry if its spelled wrong), Nine Inch Nails, Metallica, and a bunch other bands i like i just cant remember them right now. Okay well i offically feel like a dork *sigh*. alright well im dont blabbering byezz.

Correction, Puffy, my user name was inspired from the band's name.

On T: I heard the Gorillaz are really good. I like the BEP's because I like some rap, but most of it sucks. BEP's use rap with hip hop and jazz, and I like the lyrics they use.

Statikk HDM 08-02-2005 06:36 PM

I've convinced my brother to get away from shitty rap and buy more underground/gangster rap. Its an improvement. And even though it seems like a rip-off to most, I'm happily listening to tons of songs on Rhapsody. I'd never find or be able to download with my lousy connection. I listen to about 15 songs a day for a month, ten bucks is a good deal. And I listened to a good two hours of music a day, every day, with the 15 day preview. I then got my own credit card and got another 15 days. I then bought a month for 10 dollars. So far, Ive loved it.

Xvans13PuffX 08-02-2005 06:46 PM

used:) thats wat i meant and you kno that. XP But i still feel like a dork cause my music suckes.....*mentally smacks self* Okay well im done.

Well, Puffy, System of A Down and Nine Inch Nails are groovy, as is Metallica (to an extent).

As for rappage and the hippity-hoppity, I'm trying to open my mind to new and fabulous stuff, and for their genre, I find Gorillaz to be quite good. And if you can't respect them for their musical "skills", then you have to respect them for their animated creativtyness.

used:) 08-02-2005 07:20 PM

Yeah, the cover on their album was cool.

SeaRex 08-02-2005 07:56 PM

I've always like Gorillaz. Unlike in the UK, they are actually kinda underplayed in the US, and that's part of the reason why I've always found them so charming. They have a bunch of crap songs, but I still own both of their major albums and listen to several songs off of both on a regular basis.

Ska is fun, but I find it a wee redundant for me (which is hypocritical because most of the music I listen to is redundant, but meh). I do like The Aquabats! and The Planet Smashers. Good stuff.

Hobo 08-03-2005 01:17 AM

I'm listening to Feeder's Buck Rogers. I must say that they are a pretty sweet band, especially live, from the third or fourth row. Though their bassist is a bit of a twat and threw water bottles into the croud. Which got beer bottles lobbed back at him.

I'm also convinced Bug by Feeder was ripped off by U2 with Vertigo

Beck did release a single recently. E-Pro. Good stuff but not your typical Beck.

No, it isn't. Ska is a British genre from the 1980s, which got revisited by American bands in the mid 90s. Listen to a few songs from bands like The Madness and you'll see what I mean. The lead singer of that band (Suggs) is now a washed up hasbeen who presents low key docugameshows and does advert voiceovers. Heil Suggs!

I swear Ska originated in Jamaica. Not trying to prove you wrong or anything, but I think I heard that it did. Oh, whatever.

Hobo 08-04-2005 12:54 PM

Yeah Ska's Jamacian or something. But Madness was probably the first proper pop-ska band.

used:) 08-04-2005 01:16 PM

Do you mean Reggae?

Hobo 08-04-2005 01:22 PM

No. I mean Ska. Ska and Rock Steady and maybe something else were all merged to form reggae i believe.

Statikk HDM 08-04-2005 06:14 PM

Testament is the best band that nobody has ever heard of.

What genre are they?

Leto 08-04-2005 10:59 PM

Placebo

I just soiled myself.

Godlesswanderer 08-04-2005 11:08 PM

You and your Placebo, SM...

For some reason I've gotten into cartoon theme songs. At this moment in time, i'm downloading the Pokemon theme tune (please kill me now) and the Megas XLR theme tune.

I have to admit, I liked some of the ingame tunes from the Pokemon game series. But the cartoon? Are you mad? O.o

I love some anime music, like the one from the opening from Paranoia Agent.

Godlesswanderer 08-04-2005 11:17 PM

I think the answer to that would have to be yes.

Edit:

The answer to SM's question :).

Gots it on my iPod. Catchy little thing.

I'll always have a place in my heart for cheesy J-Pop. Pop just works better with the Japanese language. :p

You mean like the stuff from StepMania? I like most of the japanese stuff on that game too.
