What do you mean, "regardless of whether or not he actually did anything"? That makes no sense... Surely if he did nothing wrong he deserves no punishment? If he's recieving punishment when he doesn't deserve it, then isn't that punishment more along the lines of torture and unfair treatment?

That's a bit like you being mocked for the rest of your life and someone saying "it doesn't matter whether you deserve it or not, at least you're being punished".

Of course he deserves no punishment if he's innocent. What I'm saying is that it doesn't matter whether or not he did anything, he's still just going to be one big joke with the media either way.

Damned if he did, damned if he didn't.

Pchaw... poor wording. But you knew what I meant.

Honestly, I feel sorry for him too... if he is, in fact, innocent. If he's not, it's, of course, absurd, disgusting, etc. that he got away with it.

During the entire time during the trial, I've had my doubts about his molesting kids because of my own unique love for children. I know what it's like to have a f*cked up childhood and to even feel like one has been cheated out of a part of his or her life that should have been enjoyed. Because of that, I love playing games with small children. By being part of their childhoods, I feel like it makes up for some of the major bad memories I have from my own. I can very well see how he could find his behavior to not be abnormal or wrong.

Jacob has one of the most interesting insights to this though that I've ever heard of: Because he perhaps seems child-like mentally, he could be sexually attracted to children of his mental age. That makes perfect sense--but there's no way of knowing what's going on inside his mind... Or inside his bedroom.

And I don't know if anyone mentioned this or not--but I heard a statement on television that he will no longer be sharing his bedroom with young boys ever again.

No, I didn't know what you meant. I don't mistake someone's opinion deliberately to satisfy some kind of need to be pedantic. Like you said, it was poor wording on your part. I had no way of knowing what you actually meant. For gods sakes.

Anyway, that aside, I agree with the point you were trying to make. Jackson is going to be mocked for a long while, but if his innocence is proven, hopefully it will make all those who still mock him parody themselves; IE demostrate what ignorant assholes they really are, and therefore the mockers will become the mocked. Just like those who mocked the people who believed that the world wasn't flat.

Sometimes I wonder. :p

But all kidding aside, no need for "gods sake" and other such extremities, old bean. Really, the only word needing to be omitted from my post is "enough." While I felt it was clear... erm... enough as it was, I suppose I should edit my post for any late-comers to the thread.

*does so*

Anywho, if there is anything more pathetic than character assassination in American TV, it's character assassination in sensationalist "Tabloid" newspapers. It's quite funny to see them struggling for something new to hang on to now that MJ is innocent. Asinine headlines like "JACKO STARVING HIMSELF TO DEATH! ONLY 85lbs!" and "JACKO INVOLVED IN MURDER OF MOLESTED CHILD'S PARENTS" really make me giggle.

Out of interest, can somebody just clear up if he had admitted to sleeping naked with children, as we got onto this discussion today in Filmic Stoodies.

Which then led on to a bitchfest about American justice...and an example being O.J. Simpson.

Dino 06-17-2005 03:43 PM

Sensationalism seems to be synonymous with bullshit, so I say we make a law that requires all sensationalist tabloids and news media related corporations to denote their work as fictional, and inforce that law with sharpened sticks.

Jacob 06-18-2005 07:27 AM

Still...O.J. Simpson.

Booooooooo!!

I'm sorry that I didn't RTFT but did anyone mention how poor the prosecution did when it came to selecting a flagship victim? There had to have been a better family than the one they went with, who had a history of defrauding shops and the federal government. You know, its a a shame because I think the case wasn't debated that well on the merits, it was just a contest to see who could make the other side look even MORE repulsive.

I think michael jackson's life is a good synthesis of our society.

Eh? That didn't make sense. Do you mean metaphor of our society?
