Dear Alf
Since then you have lifted our spirits and given us more encouragement
than anyone else. We can find no words to describe our fortunate encounter in OW. We sincerely hope that you can overcome the hurdles, if any, between us and soon be together again. We are together in mind and spirit. Thank you Alf, Bye Bye San Luis Obispo Studio.., http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...tid=3161&stc=1 atusiya's father and my son. |
I think the Alf guy probably did get fired along with other non-vital staff. The reason he said he was on a sabatical is because that is alot more Alfish then saying - "I got fired".
By the way that was written... I don't think he's coming back...
It reminded me of the way parents tell their kids that their pets are going away for a long vacation and may not come back when really they are going to be put to sleep. If OWI wants to keep things looking like everything's not falling apart, I think Alf would have been a good person to keep on while we are left in the dark. |
perhaps the person that was playing Alf was let go.
and we'll have an other Alf when OWI will hire another public relation guy. |
:
I'm gonna miss them there. Downtown just won't be the same without them. |
I doubt they fired their whole PR team. Someone has to organise all those interviews that Lorne has been doing lately.
I just think that they wanted to put a stop to any game-related emails and questions about what's in store for OWI in the future - at least until they know themselves - so they cut the Alf-Line. |
well who said life goes the way you want it to if they made an oddworld movie i'd be at the cinema in a flash:love:
I'm actually wondering how many people are still there, I mean, working for OWI
Just Lorne. Lorne is OWI.
he's probably the one doing all the packing while everyone else is just siting around arguing what the movie is going to be based on:evil:
:
but to my eyes each inhabitant had a part of OWI in himself as they all contributed to oddworld |

I always have enjoyed dear old Alfie's humor and clever wit. Cheers and hope the Sabatical goes well!
So..? Is Oddworld finishing? Like, is the company at it's end or coming to it's end?
No. They're still the OWI company.
:
So there wont be any more Munch or Abe games anymore, well, in fact no games then? That's kind of sad, I read an article that said that they're moving to Berkeley, CA and keeping 'core creators.' I think they're cutting jobs. The article also mentioned 'new media.' I think they're going to focus on TV and film and stuff, but it's still sad to see the demise of such innovative games.

They may eventually go back to games. Lorne has said many times that current technology can't help him realise his dreams for the games. That is one of the reasons why they're trying other media.
:
Oh right, they got it back up. I thought it's was getting shutdown or something.
Now that the company is powering down, what is going to happen to the forum?
why did you resurect a 6 months old topic to ask this?
well OWI isn't dead, they will carry on making movies, games, tv stuff so plenty of things to discuss. |
alf is taking a sabitacal, in the unemployment line
Which implies that Alf has been fired and his Assistant kept. Though I think AA probably meant that tongue in cheek.
Do you think that if Lorne Lanning continues with Abe games(PLEASE DO LORNE) that the actual Alf will be in them?
Alf HAS been in them. He's been in Abe's Exoddus, and in Munch's Oddysee.
:
I know buut I mean future games.
Yes, why not? Alf is one of Abe's friends and also an integral part of the new mudokon society with his rehab.
Dancing Steef, Alf was one of the muds who accompanied Abe to the big well. He was the one that gave Abe a supportive pat on the back which caught him off-balance. |
