Dino 04-09-2005 05:48 PM

Isn't it obvious? Microsoft are doing this cryptic shit because they know that it will get people talking. This is quite clearly an Xbox2 publicity stunt. Don't be controlled like such puppets.

The classic Xbox power button on one of the swirly images is a bit of a giveaway really, I'm suprised that nobody noticed that.

duveaux 04-09-2005 10:40 PM

Read the topic, and see we knew it was from microsoft.
But I still really don't get it...

Esus 04-10-2005 04:35 AM

We know what it is, and it is intriguing.

Xavier 04-10-2005 10:05 AM

it's a game... we play a game, who cares if it comes from Microsoft?

Dino 04-10-2005 03:05 PM

All three of you posted in a manner that says to me "I'm pretending that I know what the score is". Sorry guys, but you all sound fake. Try telling me in detail exactly what it is that you're supposed to do with this site, what it represents, and what it's for, and maybe I'll buy it. But until then, I'll remain firmly sceptical of your "knowledge".

I still think that this is a good candidate for the stupid shit thread.

Esus 04-10-2005 03:08 PM

I was just replying to your "Don't be controlled like such puppets." with the fact that I found it intriguing.
"We know what it is" referred to "Microsoft are doing this cryptic shit because they know that it will get people talking."
That's not really pretending to know what the score is.

Basically, we don't care if it's a marketing plot to get people talking. I don't see why we have to purposely go against such markting strategies because we recognise them for what they are.

Dino 04-10-2005 03:31 PM

Look, let me just explain this to you all as clearly as I can:

If Microsoft want me to buy their product, then they can stop trying to f*cking control me with their silly shit, and start telling me what's so great about whatever it is that they're trying to sell. And I mean specs, features, gadgets - I want to know how owning this product is going to benefit me. If I'm interested in owning the product to reap the benefits of the features outlined in this information, then I will buy the product. If I don't have any use for it, then my money will stay in my wallet, and no fancy ass website is going to change that.

I'm not going to buy whatever just because a publicity stunt has impressed me, and I certainly don't intend to piss away hours of my life looking at a gallery of hundreds of random meaningless stickers posted around cities while trying to figure out what some random meaningless cryptic website is about... all for what?

What happened to the days when console manufacturers didn't f*ck you around with stylised aesthetic form-before-function artsy cryptic bullshit, and instead just gave you the cold hard info and relevant facts? I miss those days, and I want them back. Recently adverts have gone from being "educate the masses on the advantages of our product" to being "impress the idiots who are attracted to shiny things and watch MTV". It makes me sick and I'm fed up with it. I wasn't put on planet earth to be manipulated into wasting hours of my life and spending huge amounts of money on something that I don't really want or need.

:

Your memory is lost, your aura is high, your life within an inch, you have one weapon left to finish off the enemy what is it? If you read closely you should know the answer

Are you guys talking about not being able to quote this or something? Like... the question on your "colony" page?

Anyway, regardless of how pointless this whole cryptic internet bullshit is (and I must agree with Dino... it is quite pointless), there seem to be enough interested members to warrant an entire discussion instead of simply heaping it on the SST.

Hell, it's even caused a little debate, I see... heh.

EDIT: Do all of these questions have something to do with an Xbox game? If this is the case, I might actually find this whole thing interesting and attempt to solve this... "riddle." If not, screw it.

WineDarkSea 04-10-2005 10:04 PM

Dear lord! ILB was the bigest waste of time EVER! I can't believe I actually followed that for a while. ARGs are totally over rated and have little or no pay off. Not that I'm bitter. ;)

mudling 04-10-2005 10:30 PM

i joined, i don't know why. appently, this site doesn't know that states and terotries of australia and is automatically site in the USA.
appently i have to solve this:
Your memory is lost, your aura is high, your life within an inch, you have one weapon left to finish off the enemy what is it? If you read closely you should know the answer
and there is also these in grey boxes:

Pass along to those you want to join you in your journey. think about who can help you take it all the way and bring them in

if you’re chatting with me, you’re not chatting with me.

Sinlight 04-11-2005 09:32 AM

I've already got my own colony on there, it's called Join Us...
For completing challanges you get stuff like this :http://www.ourcolony.net/thesecret/1.jpg
http://www.ourcolony.net/thesecret/2.jpg
Seem to be pictures of the Xbox 2 controllers

My last two challenges (questions) were to do with xbox games. The first one was 'Second Sight' and the second one was 'Timesplitters' but I still couldn't answer the damn question!

SeaRex 04-11-2005 12:38 PM

Oh. Well, I guess that's somewhat more interesting than cryptic, "type it into a search engine" puzzles.

Can someone PM me the answer to the last one? I'm really curious to see what the answer was. I thought I had it...

Godlesswanderer 04-11-2005 12:56 PM

What, the,

"Your memory is lost, your aura is high, your life within an inch, you have one weapon left to finish off the enemy what is it? If you read closely you should know the answer"?

If it's that you mean, that's the one related to 'Second Sight'. But I didn't get the answer either. :(
I tried power, psychic, sight, mind, gun and a few more I can't remember but none of them worked.

actually, ILB did have a prize. The people who correctly encrypted the data and got the right coordinates, then went to those coordinates, got to play Halo 2 a few weeks before it came out. There were only a handfull of people though.

:

Up for anything as she marches to the beat of 11 drummers. No that's superficial.
?:(

Godlesswanderer 04-11-2005 05:31 PM

Are these challenges random or does everyone get the same one?

mudling 04-11-2005 05:40 PM

my challenge changed, so i think they're just random.

WineDarkSea 04-11-2005 11:47 PM

In response to Sligster, yeah I knew about the early trial. But it was so close in time to the release of Halo 2 that it was hardly worth it, especially since it was only multiplayer.

Does anyone know if they have a wiki page on this?
