I think many 'religious' leaders are more like politicians these days anyway. For example, the Dalai Lama etc...maybe even the Pope.

The Pope isn't dead yet, but he will be soon. He's had a heart failure, which only happens when the entire respiratory system fails. This is different from a heart attack, where just the heart is affected - a heart failure indicates more serious problems. He will most likely die of a second heart failure sometime next week.

I hope for him that he'll die very soon... He couldn't do anything anymore!

The pope is phucking L337!
He's been doing his job for about 3 or 4 times as long as I've been living. Well, we've had 2 John Pauls, do we get a George Ringo now? |
:
You thought stealing person! Um. yeah he's hanging about on his deathbed. EDIT: He's dead now. |
:
Yes, the pope has died. |
poor man. yes i know we all have to go sometime but its sad when your suffering when your dieing. I can only hope he's happy on the otherside.
|
The Pope is officially now dead. He died at 9.37 (8.37 British time).
http://newsbox.msn.co.uk/article.asp...e=windows-1252 Well, I guess he was very old and everyone reaches that time. Oh yes, and that brings me on to something else. Are any of you scared of death? I'm not because I know that it's something everyone has to face at one time or another. |
yes, death scares me to the core. the thought of not exisiting in this world anymore just makes so frightened. i'm hopeing i die in my sleep.
|
He died age of 75, but I think he should of lived longer.
|
1) I'm not going to die for a long time (presumably).
2) No one knows what happens when you die. 3) Eh, life's not that great. It might as well end sometime. So no, I'm not scared of death. So. A pope has died. I think it's the first time it has happened in my lifetime. Now I can say to my children one day, "Y'know, I was fifteen when Pope John Paul II died." And they'll say, "Who cares? We're not Catholic." This isn't as exciting as I might have thought. He was 84, Oddish. According to MSN. |
it's a bit sad, but i don't realy like the news of anyone dying.
i am a little bit afraid of death, i don't realy know why. |

The Pope John Paul II has died. He was from my country...
Janie Pawle Drugi, żaden Polak nigdy cię nie zapomni. Na zawsze w naszych sercach... |
Yeah, now he's dead. I'm a Christian, but not really devout. However, I do feel kinda bad that he died. He was a really great guy, did lots of stuff for the religion. I don't usually care when someone famous dies, but the Pope was actually a cool guy. And there are 30,000 people mourning in the Vatican City now, so I'm guessing it's going to have a pretty big impact.
|
Kimon, unless you're Catholic, his death should have no effect on your religion.
And what exactly did he do? |
On April fools day, they said that he died, but it wasn't true.
If he's going to die, then I won't have the fun of having a huge religous debate with him:( |
Pope Actulley dies

If this hyperlink works, cool Not cool about his death, though Sure I'm Jewish, but I didn't want this guy to die. Too bad. Sorry Catholics. |
It's a terrible thing when any person dies...unless they were causing serious problems for others that would only be stopped by their death.
Does this sound like I'm suggesting the Pope did that? It's not meant to. |
:
And Oddish, the pope was 84 when he died, not 75. |
Raisin, I am Catholic. And where did I say his death would affect my religion? If you're talking about the impact his death will have, I was talking on gloabl terms, not religious. The guy was well-liked.
As for what the guy did, he changed the idea of solemn, closed-minded Christian attitude to the accepting and all encompassing Catholic we know today (sarcasm). Seriously though, he put a much more liberal spin on the religion by tolerating other cultures and religions instead of shunning or slandering them. Plus he was a nice guy. Just like Jesus. :) |
I totally dig the whole tolerating thing.

Now someone else shall replace him. Life goes on.
As for fearing Death, I don't actually feel scared of dying. All I feel is dissapointment for not being able to live longer and witness mankinds greatest achievements. |

yes, I've just heard that too from my mom. Well, I must say that I'm a believing person, I mean- I believe that >something<, not exacly >someone<, exists and is watching over us. I don't believe that this existenceis 100% pure and good, but I believe anyway. It is comfortable for me to think that when I'm talking (not praying), someone is listening (maybe not interested in what I'm saying and does nothing with it, but is listening anyway). And I like to think that there is something after the death of our body- not a place like 'heaven', but a state of our soul/ghost/whatever....kinda hard to explain. But to make a long story short- I don't believe in church, though I believe in >god< If you like to call it that.
But yet- I felt bad after I've heard about pope's death. He was a good man and I respected him just for that. He never said that we, humans, are only worthless ashes, comparing to the god's grace, and we have to spend our whole life on our knees praying to him to forgive us our sins and kill/abuse any other religion (like priests enjoy to remind us to do at every step). No. Instead he was able to talk with young people, and trying to prove them that every human is worthy to live on this world as long as we will be good for eachother. I don't like most of the priests and I'm not a regular guest in church...but I still respected pope. But when I think more and more about it- I feel relief. He was very old (and survived a terrible 'accident', that was a miracle already), and seeing him in a condition that he was for a few years was making me feel uncomfortable and very sorry for him (not even understanding what he was saying sometimes). I just wanted for him to retire (I'm surprised that he didn't) and for everybody (believers) to give him a break. Sure- he was a pope, but above all that- he was a human. Now all the pain for him is over, and maybe his soul reached the state, that church calls 'heaven'? I sure hope so. I just wish that his death wasn't so painful. He suffered enough in his life. |
At first, I wasn't affected enough to say more than, "Aww, poor old guy." But after hearing about some of the things he did, assuming they're all completely true, he was a pretty great guy. I especially respected how he tried to reach out to other faiths, and he was the first Pope to say you don't have to convert to go to Heaven when he was trying to show tolerance and such for people of other religions, especially the Jews.
I do wish I recognized these qualities while he was alive, but I'm not Catholic, so I guess I really never felt the need to find out what kind of guy he was. |

Oh, and as for the other post Dino, you can say whatever the hell you like because hardly any threads always contain posts that are specific to the given topic. It's just human nature to stray into linking topics out of curiosity and interest. So what you said really has no weight with me.
|
Watch that double post of yours.
Anyway, I was quite surprised at how much the pope could do. Sure he's the pope and everything but I didn't think one man could help to do all that stuff (ie. help end communism, etc.). |
