Leeum 01-02-2005 08:22 AM

My name: Liam
Do I like it: Yeah, suppose so :)
Would I change it: Nah, too much hassle ;) I got Leeum from people spelling my name wrong, don't mind :D

mawk 01-02-2005 10:26 AM

:

Almost as funny as the 'Jesus is a homo' shirt I actually do own.

LOL. Best. Anti-christ. Shirt. Evar.

My name is a bit wierd, it's Tanicus. Most people call me Tani or nic. It's an ancient latin name, but I have no idea what it means.

Do I want to change it? Uh, I dunno... never really thought about it... I suppose a more normal name would help avoid the initial laughing at me stage people go through when I first meet them...

Languor 01-02-2005 10:38 AM

Name: Alex (most people call me Cole, though)
Do I Like It: Sure.
Would I Change It: Nah.

And mawk, I'll check my Latin-English dictionary and see if it's in there. If it's a real word I'm sure it is.

Nate 01-03-2005 08:03 PM

Name: Nathan. Seems to be a common name on this forum. Strange, cos I know hardly any other Nathans in the real world.
Do I Like It: Yeah. It's common enough that most people can spell and pronounce it but not too common, if you know what I mean. On the con side Nathan doesn't lend itself to any good nicknames.
Would I Change It: No, but if I end up moving to Israel (which is an option in the five year plan) I'll end up as Natan ('cos there's no "th" in hebrew) which I used to hate but now I kinda like.

On the other hand, my surname:
Name: {surname redacted}.
Do I Like It: Hell no. Its as common as muck and gave me lots of shit during my childhood. On the other hand it did give me my one good nickname ever - Thorn.
Would I Change It: Not if I stay in Oz but if I end up in Israel I'll probably change it to something more Hebrew-sounding (an Israeli pronouncing '{surname redacted}' sounds like (s)he's coughing up some phlegm). Not sure what I'd change it to though.

paramiteabe 01-03-2005 08:21 PM

My name is Dave and I suppose I like it, but if I changed it,I would name myself Siral pronounced Sir-al because for one Siral is the name of my main character in my stories and two it was a unique name I made up a long time ago.

By word it sounds like a rather cockeyed pronunciation of Cyril, and on paper it looks like a mis-spelling of the word "spiral". This may just be me being a twat, but to be honest I think you should rethink that one a little. Maybe Seralle or something less easily mistaken.

Facsimile 01-03-2005 11:55 PM

PA, the pronounciation of that is exactly like another name. I don't know the spelling, possibly what mawk just said.

paramiteabe 01-04-2005 05:56 AM

Well its only a name made up even with the spelling. Its only a rough idea at the moment but of course its going to change. There is no doubt about that.

I am looking into fixing the spelling to make it sound how I want it to sound

Perhaps two r's like Sirral but that doesn't sound right eather. Tip for ones self I may be a good illustrator but I am not a good writer or speller. I think it would be in my best intrest to hire myself and editor.

Lets face it I can't write very well and I know that and thats why I am not doing that as a profession. But I am really good at being descriptive in my writeing and thats where my artistic ability comes to play.

Nathan, your surname is {surname redacted}? Umm *cough cough* isn't that a little tiny bit odd considering you're male? .....

I honestly think it would be incredibly dumb to name oneself after one's made-up character.

Rich 01-09-2005 12:21 AM

Nathan {surname redacted}. It doesn't sound that stupid.

:

Naming yourself after one of your characters would be as bad as people who change their names to star wars character names.

Males and females in the same family don't have different last names, dependent on their sex.
But yeah, it's weird when gender specific names are surnames.

Fuzzle Guy 01-09-2005 05:19 AM

It's nice to hear of so many Nathans! Do you ever fidn that there are millions of merchendise with other people names on but never a Nathan.

Rich 01-09-2005 05:27 AM

This Forum is a Nathan Festival! But in real life I know no-one called Nathan.

Esus 01-09-2005 06:16 AM

:

Nathan {surname redacted}.
The protagonist in Enduring Love is called Joe {surname redacted}, and he is male.
Doesn't seem odd to me.

Godlesswanderer 01-09-2005 07:29 AM

I think the main character of Pirates of the Caribbean is called Nathaniel {surname redacted}. Even though that's Nathaniel and not Nathan (It's close enough), I don't think it sounds odd.

Edit:

Actually it's another game, but whatever game it is. That's his name, he's the main character and it doesn't sound odd.

Abeguy 01-09-2005 08:19 AM

My name is Phillip (lover of horses)
Change it? If i didn't know The meaning, no. Since I do, I wish It was David
My Hebrew name since King David was a red head

Hobo 01-09-2005 09:24 AM

I'm Charlie, Charles, Broccoli. I like them all. I wouldn't change it. Charlie suits me fine, as does Broccoli.

TheRaisin 01-09-2005 10:35 AM

People eat broccoli. You shan't last long.

Heh heh, Jed Scordane. Good one. Lemme make one for myself, let's see . . . Big Jim Bouregard. Yeah. From now on my online alias shall be Big Jim Bouregard.

Gretin 01-09-2005 11:14 AM

I'm going to keep my post short like my name:
Name=Ian
Like it?=Pretty much
Change it?=Nah

TheRaisin 01-09-2005 12:04 PM

Cool name. That's my bro's name. I wanted that name. He stole it from me.

Rich 01-09-2005 01:00 PM

:

Phillip (lover of horses)
Paints a rather disturbing picture in my head.

:

I'm Charlie, Charles, Broccoli.
Why Broccoli? You have an afro now?

Nate 01-09-2005 01:37 PM

Nathan, your surname is {surname redacted}? Umm *cough cough* isn't that a little tiny bit odd considering you're male? .....

Now I'm all self-concious and I don't even know why...

Hey, that's my dad's name!

In case you're wondering TheRaisin, my grandfather changed his surname from Rosenberg because he couldn't stand that he shared a surname with the Nazi commander Julius Rosenberg. Long story.
