On the forum I used to run, being intelligent and articulate was an entry requirement.
Which Forum did you run?
Am I intelligent and articulate?

Al the Glukkon 01-02-2005 02:10 PM

I doubt a forum for random insanity will be made.

Rich 01-02-2005 02:26 PM

Yeah, but it's so ridiculous that Alcar might just try it. :)

Languor 01-02-2005 04:36 PM

I'd say just give it a shot... see how people react. Dunno.

Yeah, I'll be dead before I see that happen. We discussed the idea of a "spam forum" before, but I don't believe it is a good idea. We shouldn't have to compromise, and what we have going on now with the rules system is fine. As long as the majority of members understand and comply, we're good!

I suppose that's true. As long as it isn't a wide-spread problem then there isn't really much of a need. Just keep it in the back of your head. :)

That's exactly how I feel. It could just be used if it was a wide-spread problem that became completely out of hand. Kind of like a last resort kind of thing that could be kept in the back of your mind if this spamming situation gets out of hand. ;) It DOES get aggravating when members constantly have to tell others to stop spamming all of the time. I just figured that this would help relieve the problem. It was just an idea.

Facsimile 01-02-2005 09:41 PM

I don't think a spam forum is a good idea. That's basically letting people who don't read or obey the rules have their way.

Smell 01-03-2005 12:07 AM

I don't think it is a good idea idea either. Look what happened to the Spam thread. Members might spend there time posting worthless things instead of posting in a decent thread.

Majic 01-03-2005 08:40 AM

Spam is hardly a problem now, and I doubt the implication for another subforum would even recieve much attention from the masses. It would be somewhere along the lines of letting a small, obnoxious child run through a department store. The kid needs a good kick up the ass, but instead gets to go around pissing off all of the other, reasonably intelligent persons milling about.

That's a great metaphor for society and life. Plus, you mentioned Ass kicking. You kick ass.

He made 2 threads called Cheese and countless other pointless threads that I think are closed. I think he's too young. I agree with Leeum, someone ought to give him a message and advise him to READ THE RULES carefully.

I was 11 not long ago . He is 11/10. I never acted like thar. Sure I might have made some bad threads or revived old ones but soon I learned. And this is the first forum I ever joined. I'm still not a forum master. I get into fights and such. But most of the time the newbies don't start it. Threads get them into trouble but if they make an opinion on something a forum veteran does'nt like then out comes some bad language and flaming. On the other hand a spam forum is bad. Even if the post did'nt count the spam posters would get too used to it and their posting would detteriorate (sp?) . Or maybe some people join only for a spam thread when they can say shit about what they want. On a warhammer forum I go on they are incredibly strict . One post like Asher5's posts and you won't be post there again. Ever. And they get atleast 100 members active at one time. Perhaps we could try that? Spam repells good posters who wanna join and attracts shite posters.

Rich 01-03-2005 12:55 PM

Unfortunately, we don't have a spammer problem. A shame really. I wanted to kill spammers.

Lack of punctuation is tolerable due to age or dyslexia. Or if the poster is a dumbass.
I speak for a lot of people when I say that random shit is not tolerable. Anyone who does random shit is never gonna be a good member.

Majic 01-03-2005 01:27 PM

We're talking about asher5, right? God knows why he created such inane garbage, but whatever the reason, I don't care. Whether (s) was an elderly man goofing around, or an average, pseudo incompetent 10 year old, the average forum IQ dropped a few points.

Fortunately, though, he's banned now. ;)

Alcar 01-03-2005 05:46 PM

Please refrain from discussing the banning of members. If you read our rules, you'll see it is NOT allowed. We do not allow the discussion, as it can deter those that are banned from trying to do better when they return. It can also start forum controversy, and lead to a number of mistrust issues.

Right. Sorry about that, Alcar!

Nate 01-03-2005 07:21 PM

I'm going to break with tradition and throw my weight behind Alcar. He's totally right about new posters. I've seen a few in the last year who come in and act like they're the shit but after a few choice words from well meaning (!) forumers they usually straighten out.

In any case there is not a major spam problem here like there was a few months ago. Just one or two people that need to be taught the finer points of netiquette in the most cruel and unusual method possible (step forward Rich).

And while I'm getting things off my chest I may as well admit that the spam thread was a really bad idea. I stuck up for it at the time because I thought it was funny but it got overwhelmed by a huge amount of warhammer and shoe talk.

If anybody makes a cheese thread I'll send you a PM. Anyway, *said member* recieved lots of warnings from DI, SeaRex, Mawk and others, he had reason to change and didn't.

If he does return a changed man, then you have worked a miracle, Alcar.

This Forum is great. Really cool, everyone is generally good. Therefore it only takes one stupid topic to disturb the natural balance. I'd say most spammers are just arsing about and Peter needs to give a good kick to their arsy regions.

Btw, Nate, where've you been? It's good to see you back posting again. :)

Nate 01-04-2005 12:55 PM

Gee thanks Rich. *hugs himself as a warm fuzzy feeling spreads through his body*

I had a week off work over Christmas/New Year so I couldn't access the forums (my home internet is too slow). For more detail visit my thread in the welcomes and birthdays zone.
