Has anyone read "The Prince" by Machiavelli? My God, that's a great read.
I think it's fair to say that most people on here are liberal(ish). You owe it to yourself to read it. You might be surprised what you agree with... |
What's it about?

Hitler liked it, and so Machiavelli is often villainized because of this... by people who probably haven't even read any of his stuff. |
Read the Prince and it made Machiavelli look like a sneaky, underhanded little bastard. Most of what he wrote is practical advice for a tyrant/dictator to get and keep power. It's pretty astute and a slim book so because its interesting and did impact the world it deserves a read.

I read all sorts. I always have to have a book on the go because of school. At the moment I'm reading Lord of the Flies by William Golding.
As for my favourite book/series. Well I like a lot but I liked this 15 part thing called Wicca. I forgot who wrote it though |
The Prince . . . waitaminute . . . Daria read that too. I shall check it out.
I've been thinking about reading Lord of the Flies for a while. I probably won't have a chance to read it anytime soon but someday I'm going to. The River Why was a book that surprised me. Considering that it seems to be chiefly about fishing and God, it's amazing I bothered to read it at all. But it's definitely worth a look. It's a sort of coming-of-age type of novel about a guy . . . who fishes. I mean there's more plot to it than that, like he finds a dead body in this river and it kinda throws him out of whack and some stuff happens because of it, but basically it's a series of interesting small episodes full of bizarre characters. I'm pretty sure most of it is based on the author's real life, so I guess it's sort of like a fictionalized autobiography. Believe me, it's better than my description might indicate. I haven't read at all in days. I've so many books to read that I don't feel like reading any of them. I hate it when this happens. |
