In reference to D. Caste Raider (see oddguy's pic on page 1):
Sligslinger says: "I [SS] noticed that D. Caste Raider has fingers jammed in the rim of his hat, and told SeaRex to post it because it was driving me crazy that no one noticed." He also adds, "You blind bastards." :p |
I noticed that a loooong time ago...like when the Oddworld issue of Polygon came out.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...y/OddCover.jpg I guess I just never commented on it. -oddguy |
mawk..I really belive that is an incredibly minor issue...it just cracks me up whenever anyone complains about aliasing...tech aspects are so uberly unimportant in something with a grand design such as Stranger, who gives a ratass about aliasing? it's like meeting a girl in a bar and asking her first and foremost about what toothbrush she uses...it's just that ridiculous for me. I always look for production value first, I hardly ever notice something like that until it's rubbed on my face.
Anyways, I'm sorry about telling you how great my aproach to judging graphics is compared to yours, all I am trying to do is tell you in the most explicit facesmacking way: stop staring at the donut's freakin hole! anyway, I know I've not been checkin screenshots since I was actually looking fordward to playing this game and I hate spoiling myself with things like this, but now I know I wont play it so.... did anybody notice this?? http://www.xboxyde.com/pop_image.html?G=775&N=15 doesnt that face in the panflet look like some sort of steef shaman!?? and stranger seems to be angry at that vykker cousin (it's a vykker with a green paintjob! :p) about something that happened to him too! is that the tunring point when Stranger moves on to the greater theme of the game? =O |

Well there you see a Steefs full head... with the horns cut...
when they are cut, he can easely hide it under his hat... |
oh yeah, I didnt notice that, hmm...could it be the octogi is making a steefstorm brew? :p NEW steefstorm brew with all the exhotic refreshness of steef shaman bones! :p
|
Doesn't look like he's had his horns cut off to me. You can't normally see Stranger's horns, can you?
|
well they are cut ala HellBoy...
that is the "circle" on his forehead on the paper |
i like strange just without the horns...
and i realy like if he has this cool hat just around his eye's so he looks very mysterious. ps : are the thing that are sticking out the hat his ears? i throught somebody said this long ago |
The Glocktigi appears to be wearing some kind of water suit. (check out the stitches on the gloves.) Very cool.
|
wow... could this be the "Bad" ending?
http://media.xboxyde.com/gallery/pub...5/537_0036.jpg ......OR! since Stranger probobly won't grow horns when the game ends.... the Gloktigi (thats what it's called, right?) collect Steef trophies... and Stranger is his "ultimate prize", so to speak. |
I don't think that's the bad ending, because that idea was allready used for the bad ending of MO.
And...look to the left and you'll see another horned figure mounted on the wall. Most likely another Steef...but not sure. -oddguy |
Hey those are some nice pictures....well done anything odd is good in my book.
|
:
and stranger has right horns but maby those horns are like hair... nobody is the same:) |
I can't recall whether it was us, or an official course (direct, or indirect) that mentioned something about Ivory hunting, and the subtext it could mean in Stranger's Wrath. Perhaps the Gloktigi is an Ivory dealer? Only replace Ivory with whatever you call Steef horns :p
And you've probably already noticed it, but that picture sligster posted has the same background that the Gloktigi's room has. Alcar... |

We're looking at a flat side view, and the thing is off to the side nearest the viewer. It's probably a sawn off horn just like it looks like.
|
Are we looking at the same picture?
http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...tid=2586&stc=1 Yes, the circle is slightly angled to the viewer, but it is not in any way on the side of the head like the Steef horns are. http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...tid=2587&stc=1 |
Yes. I know what I'm looking at, unless that's an illustration of a Steef with a tea tray lodged in it's head. The thing on it's head is not in the center, it's on the side, and above the eye in both pictures. You can see the forehead overlapping most of it. What's the point of it being anything else? We know they have horns, so it stands to reason that a huge plate embedded in it's head would be the remains of a horn. It doesn't leave room for anything else.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...i/SteefSig.jpg |
Unless that particular steef is a unicorn, its not possible. The second horn would overlap the circle we see there. Also, where are the stubbs of the two smaller horns?
It is clear from Stranger that the horns are not always visible so why can't you accept that this may be a steef wearing a hat? |
If you were to draw a line from his left eye straight up to the top of his head, the line would pass almost right through the center of the disc. That's what I'm going by. If was in the center we would be seeing the profile of the flat surface, but whadda ya know it's in what we call 3/4th's view. Seriously, if I tried to pass that off as being in the center of his forehead in art class, I'd get marked down a grade because it would be crappy perspective.
|
I didn't say it was the absolute centre.
What I said in my last post is that the edge of it covers over the centre of the head. Therefore another 'horn' on the other side of the head would overlap the one we see. And you haven't responded to my point about the smaller horns. |
:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...i/SteefSig.jpg As you can see, the one on the left is turned, and his horn is near the center, yet you can see how another horn fits on the other side. That, is what I am seeing. As for the smaller horns, I don't know. Maybe only certain individuals have them. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree, but if I had to bet on what the designer is trying to portray, I would go with sawn off horns. It's reasonable. |
In my opinion, your drawing shows the horns further to the side of where the circle is on the steef's head.
But I am prepared to agree to disagree |
Sorry but you guys are reffering to fan art?
|
We're talking about this picture http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...achmentid=2586 and comparing it to Shell Man's picture.

Leaving that aside, I think I've deduced what's going on in that series of screenshots: (More possible spoilers)
We've heard about how Stranger is 'suffering' from some physical malady, well it seems likely that this is what he's consulting the Vykker about. Perhaps Stranger is trying to prevent his horns from growing in, what with the notion of trying to be something he's not, and wants the Vykker to fix it. The Vykker however, suggests that the horns might be of value to someone, and puts Stranger on the phone with that Gloktigi dude. Stranger is disturbed by the Gloktigi's eagerness to own his horns, thus setting him on the path to discovering his true nature. Hows that? |
The Stranger's Doc thread in the spoiler forum started by my friend Odd Trusting (it has some refurence to this, guesses and such about that) is the medicational cure for those helpful facts you may need. Side effects may vary
