A quintology title would make an awesome launch title for Xbox2 or PS3 *wink wink*

Alcar 11-24-2004 01:19 AM

It would, and it would bring a lot of publicity. Although, would Oddworld Inhabitants have to become an Xbox Exclusive developer? Would it have to part with some of its stake / hold on the company to Microsoft? But more importantly, would it have to speed up the development cycle to meet the deadlines? Oddworld wouldn't dare make the same mistake.

I never want OWI to make a launch game again. They should take their time to learn the hardware as good as possible. And take their time to make the game just the way THEY want it. Publishers must pay. No more, no less. No deadlines, no decisions about story or gameplay.

Leeum 11-24-2004 07:21 AM

I don't want Oddworld games to sell out tbh, fair enough call me old fashioned, what happened to the good old Abe on GT Interactive, wasn't heard of but the good old days of being a kid and playing seem to have changed. I don't want Abe to be one of those games like Halo 2 etc.

Nate 11-24-2004 12:55 PM

I don't think OWI want to make another launch title for any system. Lorne has made a few comments about how there were major changes to the Xbox when they were already in production, that screwed them over.

Yeah, I forgot that quick about the whole deal with Munch's Oddysee and all.......I guess a quintology game wouldn't make a great launch title after all..My bad!!

Xavier 11-25-2004 09:17 AM

I do agree with NDW...
no more launching titles.

keep on focussing on what you got! and not on what you think you will have

Nate 11-25-2004 12:34 PM

... and make more games for the Xbox so I don't need to buy and Xbox2 any time soon

odd chick 11-25-2004 12:37 PM

Do you think Stranger II will be on Xbox or Xbox 2?? I hope it's Xbox because I probably won't be able to buy an Xbox 2 until way after it's release, probably not until the Christmas after it's released or something.

Oddish 11-25-2004 12:43 PM

I think OWI just might able to fit it on Xbox2, OWI did say that thier will be 4 games on Xbox.

Nate 11-25-2004 12:57 PM

That deal no longer exists. Personally I'm (wishfully) thinking that they will stick with the Xbox as they've just built a funky new engine and they'll want to use it as much as possible before having to start from scratch with the Xbox 2. Add on top of that Lorne's statement that he doesn't want to work on games for a console that has not yet been released and I think its a pretty safe assumption that at least the next game will be on the Xbox.

I hope to God, Stranger 2 is on the Xbox. Perhaps the soon-to-be-released Xbox 2 was another factor for Oddworld shifting their development of Stranger to January? Are they planning on releasing another game in time for Christmas 2005, and subsequently, when the Xbox 2 is launched?

I really doubt that they will release another game in time for Christmas '05. That would mean that another game would be released less than one year after Stranger's release and that is one extremely difficult task to fulfill!!

Alcar 11-26-2004 03:11 AM

Well, Abe's Exoddus was created in one year and two months. It's not impossible, but I do have to agree that it would seem out of their grasp. Which leaves the question, are Oddworld Inhabitants going to develop another engine for the Xbox 2?

It seems like such a waste to drop what sounds like such a dynamic engine for one game. Let's hope the Xbox 2 is pushed back a further year.

One year? Stranger's Wrath has been in development for three years. The new ‘Strange Engine’ is robust and sturdy, and Lorne has already had talks with EA about a sequel - I wouldn't place it beyond OWI's grasp, especially as it is one of their aims. But naturally I don't want them to rush through development. Here's hoping.

Rincewynd 11-26-2004 11:28 AM

I heard around that Stranger does meet up with Abe and i also assumed that, since stranger is a bounty hunter (captures things for moolah) and since Abe and Munch have destroyed many Glukkon industries then they are wanted (and must hav a reward attached)

P.S:There is an X-Box 2!!!!!!
P.P.S: *laughs slighty* i said P.P

Xavier 11-26-2004 11:28 AM

Lorne said it, so it might be belivable... one game a year
"Oddworld just got even stranger" might be on Xbox
^ Working title I made up for Stranger 2 :p

Strager dose not and will never meet Abe! Or Munch, I don't know where hell you heard from.

Odd Trusting 11-26-2004 01:34 PM

But there is a possiblity that you might see a Mud in a cut scence (see the spoiler, Strangers Doc) or some other familar Oddworld creatures in cut scences. You know maybe somewhere down the line of Oddworld games Stranger and Abe may meet up, but they do intead to pick up Abe and put him back into future games. There is a small posiblity you might see a Abe wanted poster on a door or something very very small in the game relating to Abe or Munch

Oddish 11-26-2004 01:37 PM

As much as many people love to see that, oddworld is just a very big big place.

Odd Trusting 11-26-2004 06:00 PM

Cheers to that Oddish!

I've actually heard this talk from a couple of people. What source did you get this from? I find it highly unlikely that this is true because I doubt that Abe, Munch and Stranger would ever meet , but I'd still like to know where you heard this from.

Rincewynd 11-27-2004 02:01 AM

I got it from my bro, and he got it from his friends (so he says) but he didnt say where his friends got the information

Further to this, character, environment, animoators and the cg movie makers (among others) can all begin on the second game a long time before the first game is released - theoretically.

Xavier 11-27-2004 08:24 AM

hmmmm yeah they could...
but I prefer them to add finishing touches to the first game.
but on the other hand I don't realy know how those people work in team

Nate 11-28-2004 01:19 PM

The toughest thing in producing any game is getting a working engine. Once that's done and you have usable AI for recurring characters, you should be able to make games comparatively faster - you only need to concentrate on the new stuff, like the plot, design and new levels.

Xavier 11-29-2004 10:36 AM

yeah basicly...
but you have to change the engine a bit... or else the press screams that you are not innovative enough.

but that can be done quite quickly

look at SplinterCell 2, it was nearly the same engine as SC1 but with some new features, and it came out quite shortly after SC1
