The faces are very good, don't touch them they are great
But some details on characters could use some bumpmapping, it's just too flat: Stranger and the minions hands, plus the poncho. And thoses hats could use a few more polygons. the background is superb! the sky gorgeous the vegetation is very well done (I hope it moves with the wind and when a character touches it) the weapon efect looks great |
MO used to have very gorgeous graphic's(on PS2), very nice light effec's and smooth, great colour. On Xbox had very great detail on the charcters. But Stranger's characters seem to have alot of detail, tham the last game. The Sky look's like from MO, excetp diffrent colour. But the envroment look's surberb!
There should be alot of thing's to do in the game. |
Look at the baddie in the foreground.... look in his backpack...... are those swords?

whats the prob with everyone looking the same?Sligs look all the same,Muds nearly look all the same and slogs look all the same. What does it matter?
|
Gah. Now a bunch of people are complaining about the graphics, and of course there's those who are blaming it on the fact that it's gonna be on PS2 as well. Oddworld has NEVER had spectacular, cinematic quality graphics like Half Life 2 or any of those new PC shooters being released. The only thing that makes Oddworld's visuals stand out over other games is that they're unique and, well... odd.
So quit your complaining. It's oddworld. |
But Oddworld's FMV's are award winning.
And...I enjoyed the gameplay graphics of MO. They weren't best, but they got the job done. Really though...I think the final product of Stranger is going to blow our minds. I shoudn't have been so quick to judge on that one screenshot. Sorry OWI! -oddguy  |
Even if that one screenshot is what the final build will look like, it's not like it looks BAD. Certainly they could put a few more lighting effects in and some filters to make everything blend really well and give the whole scene a more rustic look, but otherwise it looks awesome. I just really really really hope that the gameplay ends up with the same sunset look as the fmv's, where everything has an orange-ish tint.
|
I agree with Eriken. The sky looks crap, it needs that orange hazed, sunset, effect.
|
The sky look's like in MO, except diffrent colour. I don't thing all the levels will have the same sky. If youl look at some of those pics.
|
Those people aren't all the same. One has swords on his back, another has a gun, the other has something else somewhere. They all seem pretty unique compared to any other generic enemy we've seen in every single other OW game.
I think it looks great, I would love it if when I got it, it had those graphics. |
The enemies all look SIMILAR, but they're definitely not the same.
|
If you think back to all the previous Oddworld games, were not the Sligs, Slogs, Scrabs, Paramites, Glukkons, etc, all the same? Yet we all seem to forget we all loved those games :)
Alcar... |
Notice that Mortimar Bang looks almost exactly like the Hatman in the forground (the one with the swords). He has the same tint of skin and the same clothes aswell, just minus the hat.
|
Well, yeah. I assume they might be the same species.
|
Who just said the screenshot looked almost real? Get a grip...(unless they mean the high res picture, thats pretty good...)
Its nowhere near as good as FMV though, unless the FMVs are...well...bad (for FMV graphics anyway). Nothing wrong with enemies looking the same(ish). They did on the others. Its not like they're going to make HUNDREDS of different ones. I think it'll get better though. I look foward to a game that looks like what MO was supposed to look like when it was being planned for PS2...(although that will probably PS3 or X-Box 2 stuff) Good nonetheless. (looks like Jak II...) |
The Cliff's look very reastic to me. I'm sure there will be more enimies comeing soon, like bosses and those "Orcs"/ Wolvorks.
|
Yeh they can't use the same enemies in every single Oddworld game.
Because it will get boaring and they will lose sales. They need more, newer, better ones. |
It would be good to see glimpses of future enemies from future games in the more recent games. Or see them fighting against each other, like in 'Halo' with the Flood et al.

Scrab and paramites, there just wildlife! I think you much to much Tom & Jerry, hmmm.. give's me an idea.
|
Yeah, it would be good if there were an environment where you could release a herd of scrabs into a hall with a couple of sligs in it. You could take bets over how many scrabs they could take down before the sligs are all squished.
|
hmmm, could be an intresting situation indeed!
and also way more fun then eradicate both sides yourself. |

Nate, that's a sweet idea. A perfect piece of action-cum-story telling that can use the game's AI rather than resorting to an FMV. It'd also be more like using the environment of the levels to your advantage, something OWI keep trying to do. |
Maybe they're just not showing eveything because they released all their hopes for MO before it was out, and in the end had to cut lots. Maybe they're trying not to get our hopes up...
I'd quite like to see Sligs lost in the wilderness, being hunted by Paramites at night...that'd be cool... Dont you think that would be a funny idea for a multiplayer? (as long as it was done well). Oddworld Colloseum (spelt wrong i think).... Rich Glukkons bet on a team of creatures that is sent into a huge natural arena against their will to kill or be killed...Flying Sligs vs. Swarms of Bats...Scrabs vs Sligs....Slogs vs Fleech...oooh... |
'Rich Glukkons bet on a team of creatures that is sent into a huge natural arena against their will to kill or be killed...Flying Sligs vs. Swarms of Bats...Scrabs vs Sligs....Slogs vs Fleech...oooh...'
I don't really see that as a thing that the Oddworld creatures would do, maybe if it was more primitive, but not as it is now. Although i did have that idea in one of my fics when it was based around the different Dimensions of Oddworld. |
Yeah I'm just saying it would be cool. Maybe they would if both teams were carnivourous and smeared with blood... and the smart would would just try to stay alive, by killing their predators, and Sligs would think it was fun...
But obviously thats never gonna happen so nobody say ' ooh thats never gonna happen' etc. and write a big paragraph on it. :

Perhaps the some of the characters that we think are outlaws are perhaps the henchmen of the outlaws. Ever think about that? Like sligs to glukkons etc etc. You have outlaws and then gang members. They all look a like and I sware I seen more than one of the same character in one shot. Which makes me believe that the outlaws have henchmen. If anything on Oddworld that would vs each other it would be a situation where you have Mudokons faceing fierce preditors like scrabs inside a huge Magog entertainment arena. sort of like a Magog circus.
Like Gladiators but as strong deformed Mudokon Gladiators pumped up on steroids curtasy of the Vykkers. Gladiators were slaves to the Romans to entertain the Roman Empire. Could you imagine a sick and twisted humerous way to make Mudokon slaves entertain the Magog Cartel. A circus is what I am talking about and it is the very theme of my new fanfic. |
Don't be so sure that the Colosseum idea won't happen. Remember "Name that Trauma?" - clearly pain and suffering have entertainment value on Oddworld, just like in the Big Brother house. *Badaboom Tish*
And this all reminds me of the slog huts in MO with the crane. You could pick the slogs out of their pens, drop them next to a slig and watch the hilarity ensue. |
