I'm the singer. Feel free to diss on me if you want, I'd probably agree with you. The way I like to sing occasionally has problems adjusting itself to the bands current style of play. I'm also a drummer.

Our band is actually having some commitment problems right now. Hopefully we can get everything sorted out this summer and work on writting and recording some better stuff. We are definitely cooler live than recorded, we have a lot more energy.

Ferill, I really want to hear these songs! Is there anyway you can at least publish a small clip on a website?

-oddguy

sorry mate, but I currently do not own my Bass Guitar, so there wont be any clips for a while. I could get Steve to record some of his stuff though.

I'm thinking of making a band called Death Toast Madness, but I'll have to learn to play guitar first.

I used to be in a band, we covered some songs.
RHCP - Californication (my fave)
Guns 'n Roses - Knockin' on Heaven's Door
Beatles - Let it Be
RHCP - Under the Bridge
Lenny Kravitz - Are you gonna go my way
Three Doors Down - Kryptonite
Bryan Adams - Summer of '69
Sum 41 - In too Deep
Golden Earring - Radar Love

And some more, can't quite remember.

We had a drummer, 2 guitarists, a bassist, and me, volcals.

Why did we quit? Well, final exams were there, and we had to study.
Why didn''t we continue? Cuz most of the band-members were gonna study all over the country (including me)

Right, I am getting a new Bass Guitar! I'm ordering it through my school too, which means it will be very very cheap!

Got a list of B-sides that me and the crew have written. These songs wont be on the album, so we'll probably record them and put them on EP's, singles etc etc.

Englishman
I'm Happy For You
Love
Blood & Bullets
Objects May Be Closer Then They Appear
Cold Summer
Spectrum
Outbreak 17
Bad Judgment
Deep Wounds
Big Brother Theme
At My Most Beautiful (R.E.M. Cover)
Days Before You Came (Placebo Cover)

the songs in red have no lyircs to them, they are just tunes really. Long interludes if you will.

EDIT: Were not going to cover a Muse song, instead we are going to write a song about them as a tribute. We have alos changed the Placebo song that we are going to cover.

How long have you been in a band? Just curious. My bands been playing together for about four years. The next two years are going to be really big for us and then after graduation I don't know what will happen.

Our goal is to have recorded an album by the end of summer. Our rythm guitarist/keyboardist/producer has a nice recording studio.

I'm sorry but something is telling me if you have all those songs in that small space of time, they aren't going to be the greatest...

Fez 07-02-2004 10:09 AM

Your absolutelly right Fax, but we have only just stated. All these songs i've ut up are songs i've written, and all of them have only about 30 seconds of tune to them at the mo. We have a LONG way to get to your standards, but we'll make it.

New song:

The Beetles - Lonely People

The rest of the band decided it needed a redoo, and Steve has done that very well so far. Nicks being very lazy though, he hasnt helped Steve in some drums beats for a while......

TIPS

Heres some tips for starting a band. I know from experience that following these rules will make the band thing a whole lot easier.

1. Make sure all the members are completely dedicated. Meaning they would skip a day on vacation somewhere to play at a show.
2. Be original. If you play stuff that sounds like everyone else, just quit now.
3. Have a stage presence. A unique one so that people remember you. No ripping off.
4. Record a good demo. At least two songs with different styles. Give it to everyone you know.
5. Don't get discouraged. Band mates quit, your equipment sucks, nobody comes to your shows, whatever, it happens.
6. A band is not a total democracy. Make sure everyone knows who is in charge.
7. PRACTICE A LOT. At least three times a week.

nads 07-02-2004 12:45 PM

May I add?

Tip #8: Have instruments and know how to play them.

Disgruntled Intern 07-02-2004 01:19 PM

"6. A band is not a total democracy. Make sure everyone knows who is in charge."

Yeah, sure. Make yourself the frontman of the band. Dictate what goes on.

Moron.

It's common fact that if you make somebody do [or play] something they're not really into, it's going to come out half assed.

The individuals in the band are what produce the final sound. Not one person.

I want to start up a band, I can sing so I would be the lead vocalist, but theres on e problem all my friends already have or are in a band so I need to find some new friends who arn't in a band that can play bass drums and guitar.

Khanzumer 07-06-2004 09:17 AM

DI, I wasn't talking about creatively, I was talking about the business side of being in a band. Everyone should have a part in writing the music, but when it comes down to a serious decision someone in the band needs to be in control and have the ability to say no to other bandmates bad ideas. An example of this would be when a pianist who never comes to practice, a new rythm guitarist and a new drummer want to change the set list two minutes before the show, the guitarist who formed the band has the right to say no, even if he is outvoted.

That was an needlessly long explaination...

4. Record a good demo. At least two songs with different styles.

Sure, if you want to be a sellout. Put the songs on their that the band agrees on. You don't have to have two different styles to be a fantastic band.

Majic 07-07-2004 06:23 AM

Band, eh? Yes, I play in a band. The Newman Smith Wind Symphony. *Walks away before any more is said, as this topic has seemingly nothing to do with concert band at all*

Fez 07-09-2004 09:45 AM

Nick dropped out, that fat lazy sod. Anyway, we have a new drummer, Joe..... Yes.
