Raked a guy over the coals in Blackjack at a dollar a hand. 11 bucks! So far I've made over 25 dollars wearing the Chucks. They're ****ing amazing.
Exams: Passed Geometry(Woot), got a B in History and Spanish, aced Biology and am waiting for my English exam. Going home at 11 tomorrow. No singing in the choral concert! No commencement services! No stupid graduation ceremonies!

Nate, what purpose does the skullcap serve? Did it enter the religion purely and simply as a symbol or did it originally have some kind of function?

purely and simply as a symbol. I probably shouldn't have brought it up simply because there isn't any particularly good reason (at least 'good' to someone who isn't Jewish) but in simple terms it shows our respect and devotion to God.

BTW I was serious about the 'horns' thing. I have a friend who's actually been asked that by one of his friends. pathetic really.

PROMS: Another thing that makes people feel the need to grow up and shag way too early in life!

Couldn't agree more. Nobody in my group went to the "No-Tell-Motel" afterwards. ;)

Ah ok. Thanks for clearing that up... been wondering about that for ages. :)

I thought it was something like that... but I wasn't sure... Thanks Nate!

I really sometimes can't believe the ignorance of some people...

I'm sorry to hear there are still wankers, like the twat your friend had the misfortune to meet, are still with us in the 21st Century... it makes me sick!

And oddguy... I'm very pleased to hear that you and your friends are very much in control of your lives and making some very important informed decisions... either that or you're all but ugly!!!... I'm joking sweetie! I couldn't resist... you ran never mind walked into that one!

I just had the formal last Saturday. It's basically our school's attempt at prom, since freshmen stay at junior high, not high school. It was alright, our school tried really hard to make it nice.

Spent about half the dance waiting in the goddamn line for pictures. Danced...twice. That's right, twice.

I swear, she had her whole entire family at her house, all armed with cameras. I look SO confused in the pictures...I didn't know which of the 6 cameras to look at.

But it was pretty fun. We all went minigolfing afterwards.

Danced only twice? My god... My whole semi-formal was one huge dance, with a tad bit of food inbetween. The music was so loud, it took a day or two for the ringing in my ears to subside :p

But I've promised myself for my formal (not semi-formal), that I shall accompany my date in a limo this time. It doesn't cost much, and I wanna go out with a bang :p

So in Australia you have formals at 16... when you leave school?

I thought you guys got a high school cert at 18? Then went onto uni... rather than having a 6th form or FE college in between?

Codek 05-21-2004 03:03 AM

What the fuck is up with the emoticons?

Alcar 05-21-2004 03:09 AM

In Australia, we have a semi-formal at the end of Year 10, when the mean age is 16. If you continue with Year 11 & 12, you get a formal at the end of Year 12, when the mean age is 18. I've already had my semi-formal, but now await my formal.

Death, the emoticons have been replaced with the new vBulletin 3 styled emoticons. You might have noticed that we have jumped from 3.0.0 Release Candidate 2 to 3.0.1.

Well what the hell happened to the emoticons I uploaded and offered to you?

Or did they slip into a void?

And those are?

Can we have a list of the codes please?

Is it on the FAQ or what?

EDIT Yup... its there but it would be nice to have the option of opening in a separate window like a "help"...

Aaah I see! In Ontario, we have 13 grades in High School. 13!!!! It's so long. Although I think they changed it last year to 12.

Not a twat, just an ignoramus.

If you've never met an African American you may think that they are all drug dealers and gangsta rappers cos thats the way the media portrays them. Similarly if you've grown up in the middle of a small country town and all you've ever heard about Jews is what you've been told by your parents (who've never met one either) then you'll probably get some small details wrong  .

My friend said he wasn't upset but it did take him a few minutes to stop laughing.

Al the Glukkon 05-23-2004 01:45 PM

Why is Michigan's wheather so messed up. One day it's 70 degrees, the next its 30. We've had thunderstorms and tornado warnings since thursday. We even had to stay after school and wait in front of the lockers. Oddworldfreak could tell you.(If he would post)There's the siren again.

I can see your point there but there's this thing called the media and then you should get educated in school about tolerance and world religions...

There is NO excuse for racism, xenophobia, intolerance or even plain ignorance!

IMHO anyway!

Well at least you get to live in a place with a cool name like Michigan.

Michigan is just SUCH a cool name.

Its a cool name but how about having the same full name as a place!!!!

I have the same name as a village in County Clare, Ireland! (Only Claires not spelt the same... that can be a challenge for you guys! Whats my full name!?!

A map of Ireland will tell you!

Silversnow 05-24-2004 10:43 AM

It's been damn cold up here lately. It's May, for crying out loud, you aren't supposed to catch colds now!
Have an economy test tomorrow. Damn it all.
Has to be in school this wednesday (normally we get to pick if we want to study there or at home) to talk about the musical. WTF?! Oh, I see, it's not like I've been there almost every week this whole season rehearsing it and then been forced to show it to the public (and watch it from the lighting room) five times in a row? No, of course not, I was somewhere else. I have to be there, talking about it and then watch it AGAIN! Some people!
I'm not sure if I have good enough grades to get into the school I want to go to, but I'm allowed to go there now :).
My pockets hurt. I'm supposed to be sleeping.
My english teacher is a ****ing idiot. I think I'm going to kill her if we don't get to leave the damn school soon. Strangle her with her own stinking belt, while slapping her over her face, screaming "How nice! How nice! How nice!". She treats us like 5-year olds!
*sigh*
Prom soon. I'm nervous and the shoes I've bought hurts.
ClaireBear, do your name have anything to do with the Sims? Hot Date? My sims were having a picnic and a certain Claire the Bear stole the basket.

No my dear... I don't think I have anything to do with the Simms... last time I checked anyway!

Woooo-hooo! Lookie you Mac!

It's freezing here too. Some parts of Canada actually got 30 cms of snow last week. It's about 5 Celsius right now. I LOVE May.

Yeah that sounds like most of the main dances in high school oh well, for turnabout, we didnt get pictures taken but I spent the entire evening with her and we just slowdanced a lot. *Sigh* That was an awesome dance and a lovely evening.

ClaireBear 06-08-2004 01:25 AM

Yeah! Lets keep the spam alive and wher it belongs people! Don't let it stray off to other threads... THIS is where it belongs!

I remember school dances.. right up until I was 14... where all the girls were dancing in one end of the room and the boys in the other.... it was very much a shocking moment when a girl danced with a boy or heaven forbid kissed him...

Then there were uni dances... whole diffrent story! Like stepping over the couple *aheming*... to get to the dancefloor.. man... the difference 4 years makes!

Nate 06-08-2004 12:46 PM

I never went to a school social (dance! who would call it a dance?) for various reasons that I won't go to here (*clears throat, loosens tie, feels uncomfortable*) but I always enjoyed the monday after the event when I would get all the gossip along the lines of who got laid and who would have gotten (?) laid if they hadn't been caught by a teacher. Strange things happen in a social for an all-boys school, especially when they ship in twice as many girls as guys - and yet still some guys go home unlucky!

Eventually the stories would degenerate to a monologue along the lines of (*fast, breathless voice*) "I was standing there and a girl smiled at me and I was going to go up to her when she started to walk towards me but Matt wanted to go outside so I went outside and then I went back inside and saw her again and started going up to her but I needed to go take a piss and I did and when I got back I couldn't see her until I spotted her and she was talking to Trev and she danced with him so I went up to Matt and told him he wrecked my night so he introduced me to sarah who ..."

Ahhhh! Puberty thank God you and i no longer have to suffer the ravages...

So Nate.. you're Australian and went to an all boys' school?....

Public (what we call private over in Blighty!) school?

Hey! We have a loaded guy over here! Loaded guy!

Lets abduct him and ransom him!!!!! :p

Either that or it was a similar school to my old 6th form... dun-dun-duuuuuurn... a Catholic Convent School! *CB shudders at the recolection of the nightmare*

It was a public (ie government) school that pretended to be a private school. Blazers, massed singing and stupid traditions that have been continuing for more than a century.

The first line of the school song is 'Blithesome our hearts are and free is our fancy'! What does that tell you?

I "love" the hyme... "Mother of mercy, day by day I think of youuuuuu... la-de-da"
