Gemini Rue, everybody must buy this game!

I'm playing a few games right now. I'm playing through all of Resident Evil 2 for the first time, and I'm also playing Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles, which is pretty fun. I'm also playing Castlevania Harmony of Despair with my brother, which I think is very fun, although I heard it becomes way too difficult the more players there are.

RE2 is a boss game. +Rep just for mentioning it.

I got a Wii and Super Mario Galaxy and OMG...I cannot stop playing it, I was up 'till 3 AM playing it (and had a class at 8:30 today >_>) But wow this is what video games are all about, playing and having fun not watching some lengthy cutscene. The gameplay just feels so perfect and for someone who was so against motion controls at the beginning of this gen I have to say it's really exciting to use them in this game and every time I think I've seen the coolest thing in this game it gets better. Anyway it's my favorite 3D Mario ever, it has so much more personality than Mario 64, the music is better especially the wonderful orchestral throwbacks to the 2D Marios. I also like how it has that classic Nintendo accesssibility where I thought it was going to be hard to remember all of these Wii motion functions it's like as soon as Mario gets a new suit or there's some weird new device in the level I instantly know what to press...how does Nintendo do it O_o
|
Just wait 'til you play Super Mario Galaxy 2.

It improved on Galaxy in so many ways, it made it seem almost obsolete. The level design was top-notch, there was little to no downtime with getting from one level to the next, and, best of all, it had fucking Yoshi.
I think it had enough of its own, original content to warrant it as its own game, rather than an expansion. |
I suppose. Its a bit like how Left 4 Dead 2 made Left 4 Dead 1 obsolete.

Yesterday I completed Fable III after 31 hours of gameplay (not including the 5 hours I had to replay from my last hard save 'cause there was a bug where time froze - The PC version seems to be full of glitches). This is a game that just reeks of wasted potential to be a better game, and after it finished I ended up feeling unsatisfied, like I hadn't experienced all it had to offer somehow and that half of the story was missing. :S
It's certainly not as terrible a game as everybody says it is, and it was worth the £10 I got it for, but meh, I expected something a bit better and more polished from Lionhead. Also, Stephen Fry voices one of the antagonists - He does such a convincing job that I didn't recognise him until I saw that documentary he's doing on language right now, and heard him do a similar voice to the character he plays. |
I started playing Just Cause 2 and I'm now on the fourth Agency mission and this game is way too big. Usually that's not a bad thing, but with this game, it is. All you really do in order to get 100% completion (Which would take months for me...) is repeat the same 'settlements' over again. Shoot fuel depots, collect vehicle parts, kill the colonel. Some variety please?!
I'll keep playing it just to complete the story* and gain achievements though. * In order to complete the story (aka Agency missions) you have to gain a certain amount of Chaos, and to gain chaos, you have to do the dumb settlements and military bases which is really annoying. There are a lot of good things in the game too, but they just could've done so much better with the game. Graphics are great for the most part, the map is HUGE and you have a lot to explore, the tropical setting is really nice, the grappling hook was a clever move from them and such. |
i'm just goona get straight to the point
FORZA 4 IS THE BEST GAME I HAVE PLAYED THIS YEAR |
I played Portal 2 co-op with Phylum. I got up early, he stayed up late.
We seemed to spend more time trying to work out the time in each other's countries than actually solving the puzzles. |
Yeah, so I've been playing Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. I have mostly one thing to say. (mostly)
Everyone should play these games. They're engrossing as fuck. Not plot-heavy, but a hell of a lot of fun. Here, have a mindbendingly awful commercial: If you like grinding games, it's got plenty of space and things to grind on. But you can play through it one mission at a time, no do-overs if you have an idea about what you're doing. It's a really cool model of how far video games have come. The 3DS one looks like puke, though. |
It's for the PSP. The PSP. Haha, oh wow.
|
The PSP and game were combined less money than any game you've mentioned recently, Dyna. Please shut the fuck up and let me get back into the habit of enjoying posting here.
|
I tried the first Monster Hunter and didn't enjoy it, though that was a long time ago. And one of my complaints was using the second stick to use your sword which I assume is not a problem for the PSP.
|
Obviously not. Combat consists mostly of quick combinations with The triangle and Circle buttons. MH also really likes cramming Greatswords down the throats of new players, they're ever-present as a signature of the series. They're also slow and basically awful to have unless you already know how to play.
Nothing more satisfying than finally taking down a monster after a solid 20 minutes of battle/chase, though. Also, there's this thing: |
Just beaten the last boss on Final Fantasy IV. Fuck that was really hard! I love that sense of accomplishment you get after beating something difficult. Now I have a post-ending dungeon to do, joy!
|
Ive been playing RAGE-loving the hell out of it. id never dissappoints. And also replaying Legacy of Kain from Blood Omen to Defiance...God, I want a new sequel. We need REAL vampires to liven up this teen kissfest, Goddammit!
|
I've been playing Zelda Ocarina of Time on the Wii's VC. I've seen and heard so much from this game that I feel bad not ever completing it.
So far, I think its nostalgia that made this game what it is today, nostalgia is a funny thing, make you see past the faults with somthing and make it your favorite thing ever because you played it as a kid. I'm going to be honest The graphics are rubbish, Okay yeah its a old game but old games graphics never bother me apart from here. I really don't like the 2D images of the town mixed with 3D models, It hurts my eyes. The controls are hard to get used to but maybe thats just because its on a Classic Controller but I can seeing it being hard on a N64 controller as well. Nevertheless i'm actually really enjoying it. I was going to get a 3DS and play through it on the 3D version but I thought the original would be better I still think that Twilight Princess is better and the best Zelda game out there. Not many people agree with me but if a game can make you cry at the end its a pretty good game isn't it? Anyway Like I said I haven't completed yet so i'll gudge it after. |
I would give that honor to Majora's Mask, myself.
|
Gears 3. It's incredibly mediocre.
|
I'm surprised you bothered, DI. The ads for the game alone made it feel like it wasn't even worth a rental.

I've been playing the shit out of Arkham Asylum's challenges. Two medals away from 100% completion. The last two combat challenges are so fucking impossible. I'm still trying really hard to complete it before Arkham City comes out. When that game is out, my social life can fuck off. |

The only thing that makes it enjoyable is playing arcade mode with Dorian and making fun of her for her low scores. I'm not saying it's a bad game, I'm just saying that I don't think it's as great as everyone makes it out to be. |
I heard Rage is pretty meh, as well. Just the same shit from Borderlands and Fallout in a different wrapper. Even as a huge Id fanboy, I was skeptical of Rage since they first unveiled the concept and setting; "post-apocalyptic desert shooter".

So I dunno. I knew before I rented it that Gears just wasn't really my thing, but I was hoping Cliffy B. would stop sucking his own asshole long enough to make some innovative changes and...I don't know, get it back to the tone of the first. Didn't happen. |
Hey DI, do you want to beat Gears 1 with me someday? I'm stuck at some dumb part where there are locust with those explosive arrow -bows. Couldn't get past that part.
|
If I owned it I'd be more than interested. But I don't. Although I'm sure I can find it used cheap enough, and Dorian likes the game mechanics and general aesthetic, so if I pick up a copy I'll let you know. We're friends on live, yeah?

Just saying. |

Yeah, we're friends on Live.

Borderlands... I believe that's open-world. It's so randomised it's hard to tell what it is. Speaking of randomisation, I keep getting to the second-last level on The Blinding of Issac. It's a good little game, I was always good at those Asteroids-style space-shooters so this is a game I'm actually good at. It's basically just McMillen and Baranowsky letting their hair down before they go engineer whatever monstrosity they're raising in their basement. As with most roguelikes, the true fun comes from finding an item you've never seen before, and the little tingle you get when you press the 'use' button... if you liked Gish for the character design (and in my controversial opinion, there wasn't that much else to like), it's worth taking a look. Monstro is awesome. |
I've been playing 3D Dot Game Heroes on the PS3. It's a lot of fun, but it's more of a blatant rip off Zelda than it is an homage. Still fun, though.
|
Personally I find RAGE refreshing with all the call of shits and gears of boring flooding the market. RAGE is fast, brutal and gorgeous-just as I expected from id. It's a shooter-not that snoozefest borderlands, also known as diablo with guns. And diablo was fucking terrible anyway.

BURN THE UNBELIEVER! |
lol blizzard can suck my ass for killing all of its franchises and becoming activision's sex slave. Diablo, as repetitive and dull as it is, is sparkling in comparison to world of warcraft, which not only killed a fine rts, continues to look and feel like someone threw up a rainbow on tolkien and create an army of mindless "its teh popular!!11!!" asshats as a fanbase, but all at once lose all creativity and soul as developers. For shame, blizzard, for shame. Oh, and Statcraft 2. What the fuck was that? Well, blizzard?
