What have we heard about that wasn't pure PR?
Nepsotic is trolling.
Well, we've NOT heard Abe's Exoddus be mentioned once in regards to Soulstorm, besides "we kept the backbone and we're rewriting everything else".
Ironically, we're on a forum who is making fun of religion.

It's a little different, Vlam.

Hominix, it's based on experience.
I know what they *said*, but we haven's seen what they have *done*. It's quite a big difference.
I understand the arguments on erring on the side of caution, especially when it comes to OWI and Lorne Lanning but I'm hopeful that; especially considering this is a follow up to New N Tasty and they already have resources put in place, along with new and better connections now than at the start of NnT's development cycle; they'll end up delivering on much more of their promises.

People are speculating because it's exciting. Popping up and repeating that we don't know what the finished product will be isn't very helpful in a speculation thread... That's why it's speculation. |
Speculating and acting like it's truth are not neccessarily the same
Who acted like it's the truth? Need I remind you, you came to the conclusion that it's probably a similar style of remake to NnT based on the info that it's made in the same engine. That's not necessarily safe speculation either.
They key word is "probably". That's a speculation.
You'll find that the vast majority of the people in this thread include words like "probably", "most likely", "maybe" and other words of uncertainty when they post their predictions. You're not doing anyone a service by reminding them that their idea is just an idea.
Hominix, I know how you will react if SoulStorm turns out to be a remake of AE: "Yeah, well, it is the fault of the studio...".
What are you talking about? I'd be happy with either outcome
I mean "random fan" instead of "Hominix". You lap up everything he says.
Who?
I think he means Lorne Lanning.
If it was going to be just like NnT I imagine the game would have similar marketing that NnT had early on. Lorne talked about remakes using the same script but updating the technology etc. Here he's openly talking about the failures of Abe's Exoddus "twice the gameplay but half the heart" that they're going to rewrite the script etc. I think it's safe to say that Soulstorm isn't going to be an exact remake like NnT was of Abe's Oddysee. How different than AE, though, we'll see. It's possible that some of the level designs will end up the same as the original. |
It would be great if the door of RuptureFarms was opened (FeeCo Depot). When Abe is approaching it, the door closes. Then, an employee of OWI on Twitter makes you believe there is a way to get there.

Here's an interesting article on the game from Destructoid.
http://http://www.destructoid.com/lo...s-351120.phtml What I'm getting from this is that we're gonna see Abe's legend spread around the different factories or places where Mudokons are held. He's becoming the scourge of corrupt big business and the hero of an oppressed race all at once. Verrrrrrrry interested to see how this plays out. |
This article coupled with the events of the Soulstorm ARG immediately makes me think, "censorship." If someone is out there shutting down factories and rousing the workforce then the first thing you want is to quell any ideas of revolution. Hell, Abe is even immediately labelled a terrorist.
Whoever we contact in the ARG (ed?) Seems to be going to some great effort to not get caught. It makes me think of the letters sometimes found in clothes from workers of Chinese sweatshops pleading for help that you see pop up from time to time. Kind of mixed Ss/Ss:ARG reponse, but I'm definitely excited if this means more mudokon scenes. |
I'm cautiously optimistic, but excited nonetheless. Exoddus was the Oddworld game I fell in love with when I was little, I liked the darker tone which reminded me of Starcraft or Diablo II.
But NnT wasn't really a remaster I was looking for, I didn't like the style and it didn't personally encapsulate the art direction I enjoyed from Oddworld. I have a good feeling Soulstorm won't either, which is why I'm cautious about announcements to come. It seems like it'll be following similar themes, trying to adapt the darker tone it had. But I guess we'll see! |
