Have you read it?
This thread isn't 'What do you own?', after all. |

Read it? Hell no.
I haven't been reading much lately. A bit of Eldest aloud to two of my brothers, but it sucks. I was reading At Bertram's Hotel by Agatha Christie, it's very good. I'm going to finish that, I think. |
:
that was a fucking stupid explanation. i'll just say the style wasn't to my taste. |
Didn't seem stupid to me. I get what you mean.
/me doesn't mention his writing style AT ALL |
Recently finished The Adventures of Huck Finn.
Fuck that Tom Sawyer kid. |
Oh my god. By the end of that book I loathed Tom Sawyer with a passion. What an absolute douchebag!
|
I've just finished an interesting book about Anubis.
|
What is it called?
Who is it by? What is it about? What did you think of it? Would you recomment it to others? Do you see the things you could have discussed in your post to make it, you know, relevant? |
Winds of War. It's pretty decent.
|
I have just read two of my Christmas books.
Eoin Colfer's And Another Thing. Decent, better than the last two of Douglas's books in the "trilogy". Definitely feels like H2G2, though reads differently, obviously. It completes the trend that began in an earlier book, by now seemingly every god exists apart from the Abrahamic one. They also seem to be very expensive. Terry Pratchett's Unseen Academicals. This time charting the evolution and emergence of Association Football as we know it on the Discworld (and of fashion models), but as the book goes on you get the suspicion that there is an entirely separate story coming into play, far more important to the nature of the Discworld. Suspicions that were confirmed. Certainly we get a brief, fascinating and shocking glimpse into a period from its history that I had never heard of (though I admit I haven't read all of the older novels yet). We also get a good look at the non-academic staff of UU, and of the evolving relationship between wizarding universities in an age where wizards are a lot less careless about hurling fireballs than they once were. Pratchett on top form. |
There's a new Discworld novel that isn't new anymore that I didn't know about?
HOLY FUCK where did I put that damn bookshop !? |
To Kill a Mockingbird, it's for school.
Pretty decent book actually. |
You'll be pleased to hear I just bought Unseen Academicals off eBay and will be reading it in a couple week's time.
|
I started A Game of Thrones because almost everyone I know told me to so I was like fine jeez.
edit: LETO HAVE YOU FINISHED THAT BOOK WE HAVE THINGS TO DISCUSS ABOUT IT IT MADE ME ANGRY |

I very very very liked that book, though I liked A Clash of Kings even more.
Finished reading The Immortals, the last book in The Edge Chronicles series I've been reading on and off for eight years now. I really really enjoyed it, Paul Stewart is still as good as ever at world building and the return of the Gloamglozer made me very happy. |
Nothing called Gloamglozer could ever make me happy.
|
You'll never understand unless you give the series a try, they have some of the most detailed and most awesome illustrations you will find in any book ever. I heavily recommend introducing Abbey to them when she gets a bit older. They also have Banderbears.

The banderbear could possibly make me happy.
Also, Abbey and I are reading The Hobbit. |
I finished reading The Forever War by John Haldeman about a week ago. It was basically Vietnam in SPACE! with Time warps and aliens.
Now onto Forever Peace, which is pretty good so far. |
I heartily endorse The Edge Chronicles. I loved them as a child, and I love them now. Spindlebugs are awesome, Chris Riddel illustrations FTW, and it's got a 'Nature versus Industry' vibe going on, like Oddworld or LoTR.
I've been reading Unseen Academicals too. It's good to see more of the UU. I don't think anyone does wizards like Terry Pratchett. |
No one does wizards like Ursula Le Guin. Pratchett can suck a dick.

I think I'll by the books for tattoo ideas if nothing else.

I recently read 'A Catcher in the Rye' and hated it. Holden is a repetitive, egotistic cunt who's scared of growing up in a world where everyone is phony. Why would someone write a book about it? I thought it would get better towards the end but I was horribly wrong. However, if you want to read a book about a psychologically unstable 1950's wannabe troll, then this is the book for you.
tl;dr 'A Catcher in the Rye', it sucked. EDIT: Oh yeah and it's a timeless classic and all that, I just hated it because I'm a douche like that :tard:. |

Don't forget the Slaughterers and the Ghostwaifs, my two favourite humanoid species.
|
Waterwaifs are better.
