The cutscenes run really poorly compared to the game running at 60 fps at 1920x1080 maxed out, just got past the secret of sweat, tears and pain in Paramonian Temple and I'm loving it so far.
Monsaic Lines felt so incredibly alive compared to the original and it really felt like I was trodding through a native area untouched by the industrials *even though that was the gist of it in the original too, this time it really hit me home

Para temple was my least fav level until I figured out a trick to beat that part easier :P

Job McYossie 02-25-2015 07:49 PM

Okay so I got to the monsiac lines before deciding to take a break. So far I am a little bit disappointed. Everything feels too fast, and I don't just mean the gameplay directly. The cutscene voices sometimes overlap each other just a little bit, as well as just feeling too quick like it's being played 1.2x speed or something, and the gamespeak voices sound like everyone is in a serious hurry. I guess the faster gameplay isn't really a bad thing, I was just hoping for, you know, Abe's Oddysee speed. But all this I can get over since (most) of the voices are good and the soundtrack is spot on perfect, I'll get to the soundtrack in a moment.
The main issue I've had so far is the bugs. I honestly wasn't expecting so much, but a lot of this feels like "that just shouldn't have happened." For instance, I'll solve one of the secret puzzles (love the new trap door system btw) and feel it was a bit easy, then I'll try to remember how it was in AO and I'll quickly realize that the reason I did it so easy was I accidentally cheated. Going back to the areas and doing them again to see what was up I noticed I could get in specific positions where I could chant and take a slig over that I should not have been able to. Now, it's not like I am some speed runner who was specifically looking for tricks to take advantage of (*cough cough* shade *cough cough*) I just accidentally found these spots. Another example, one that actually made one of the puzzles overly difficult, was the scrabs stop chasing you too easily. On the puzzle where you have to run back and forth across multiple gaps while being chased by a scrab I kept loosing the aggro and would have to inch closer to it to get it to chase me again so I could start my return trip.
Now for one last quick note on the music. Whoever did this needs a medal from what I've heard so far. It's almost just like an HQ version of the original, except there a few minor additions which really fit the new visual aesthetics as well and it's just really amazing. I might actually try to go into the files and get the music to put into mp3 and put on my player because damn, it's great.

That's only my thoughts so far, I haven't played the whole game so I'm not going to be like "3/10 wouldn't play again" but as I went on it did start to improve.

Shade667 02-25-2015 07:55 PM

Are you playing on Hard? Scrabs usually dont lose you if you play on hard, even if you hop jump (which is 1 frame faster than normally running). I had that happen to me on my normal playthrough but never since.

Btw, anyone playing on hard, beware of bats. bats will wreck your shit.

Seperately, putting on my mod hat:

If you're playing the game, please stop talking about it in this thread. Go talk about it in the Spoiler sub-forum. Infractions will start flying after this post.

Shade667 02-25-2015 08:25 PM

Yay, I wont be alone anymore in the spoiler forum :D

Job McYossie 02-25-2015 08:43 PM

Sorry nate, that's a very valid point so my apologies to everyone.

STM 02-25-2015 11:00 PM

Now I don't know if this question should be here or not. :(

how the heck do you use the classic controls? I can't work it out, I was just staring blankly at the options and couldn't see them anywhere. I feel dumb.

Phylum 02-25-2015 11:42 PM

Is "classic controls" just a combination of button to run and sideways hop?

Shade667 02-26-2015 01:30 AM

Yes.

And thank goodness. Cuz I dont like button to run, but I love sideways hop.

STM 02-26-2015 03:07 AM

I've actually ducked up so many times now because A is to jump, muscle memory has been stabbing where triangle should be every damn time.

e: dat phone typo

abe is now! 02-26-2015 06:07 AM

I downloaded and installed the game, but when I try to run it I get an error message which says that my screen resolution is too low... please guys help me :(

My screen resolution is 1920 x 1080, what should I do?

AlexFili 02-26-2015 06:40 AM

The controls take some used to, especially the new aiming method for thrown items (although it does give you an insane level of control). It'll take a while before the gamespeak commands are burned into my brain, although the quiksave feature is a fantastic addition to the game. The graphics are great (like the new little background features) and it has rumble too! :D

The UXB mines seem a bit strange/difficult at the moment (again, thank heavens for quiksave).

Try going to your Steam folder, then open:

/steamapps/common/Oddworld New n Tasty/Settings/{SOME NUMBER}/Settings.cfg

Look at the "Resolution = ..." line, and try changing the numbers to "1920x1080" if they aren't already.

Wil 02-26-2015 02:29 PM

At the risk of angering Nate.

:

Welp i found a glitch in the pc version, it seems that when you are hanging under a slig and pull up and drop in front of him while he shoots you will not get hurt (Now the game needs to be at 60fps for it to work every time)

Not a bug, although it does look weird when you're doing it repeatedly. If you're hoisting up or down you get some leniency in taking damage. Some parts of the game in particular would be considerably harder without that.

:

()
Does anybody know if NNT supports 21:9 resolutions?

Sorry, nope. Unity doesn't support 21:9, so neither can we.

:

()
I don't think so as my 16:10 is not supported, it has the black bars at top and bottom.

Runs without black borders on my 16:10 monitor. What screen do you have?

:

()
I want translations!!!

All texts are translated to French, German, Spanish, Russian, Turkish, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese and Japanese. Oh, and Italian.

:

()
The game itself looks great to me, very nice and crisp. The cutscenes seems crappy in comparison though. Framerate seems locked at 24ish and the intro cutscene especially is insanely bright (to the point where I couldn't make out the 'Scrab Cakes' poster).

Cutscene quality is getting a lot of attention, from users and therefore also from us.

:

()
Also the game crashed after about half an hour...

Anything you can share about the crash, like where you were, what error you were shown, etc? Was your progress ok when you started the game again?

:

()
There's one slight disappointment for me, and that is the limitation of key customization. It's still somewhat restricted and currently not possible to make the keyboard layout identical to the original as far as I can tell.

Apart from GameSpeak being on four buttons with a modifier, and other things tied to differences in gameplay, is there anything in particular you feel limited by?

:

()
And aiming thrown objects still has to be done with either the mouse or separate keys, you can't bind the movement keys to aiming up/down for some reason.

You sure can.

There is not one puzzle that hasn't changed at all, so comparing to Abe's Oddysee might not reflect places where we've deliberately let you possess Sligs. Can you describe any places in particular where you felt your local chant suppression coverage has not been sufficiently enforced by your chosen security provider?

:

()
Btw, anyone playing on hard, beware of bats. bats will wreck your shit.

Conversely, bats are one of the few things that aren't one-hit kill on Hard.

:

Yes, those are the "Old School" control toggles.

Let me know if Phylum's suggestion solves your problem! :)

Shade667 02-26-2015 04:35 PM

Bats may as well be. U guys put health all over scrabania where there are no bats and none in paramonia where bats kill us 24/7. In a speedrun, u aint got time to wait for a bat to move out of the way, and on hard, if u stay near a bat for a second its an insta kill.

(talking from ps4 not PC)

Anything you can share about the crash, like where you were, what error you were shown, etc? Was your progress ok when you started the game again?

I had just gone back to the beginning of Zulag one to do a secret I missed and was on my way back to the stockyard escape. It loaded the segment that has the orange glow and the slig in the background and pretty much crashed as soon as it was loaded. Don't remember the specific error (if it even gave one). Saves were alright, though. I started right back at that point, luckily.

:

()
Apart from GameSpeak being on four buttons with a modifier, and other things tied to differences in gameplay, is there anything in particular you feel limited by?

Being able to map the gamespeak to each key would have been nice. The settings menu doesn't specify what entry does what, so it requires a certain amount of fiddling to get it right. For example, right now I have the all o'ya key mapped to 4, but I'm used to it being 6 and I'm not sure if it's possible to easily change that.

Also the throwing of objects is fairly weird for keyboard users. Having to press and hold one key, aiming with two more and then pressing a fourth key to actually throw. It's rather unintuitive and I'd liked to have seen a different solution for it.

:

()
You sure can.

Yeah I just checked that out and it is indeed possible. Must have missed that.

Okay first of all the very oddworldian response there is just great and I love it. A few of the puzzles I could get a slig and just abuse the whole puzzle and afterwards I'd look at the scene again and see another way to solve the puzzle that was much more, uh, puzzling and more difficult to pull off. As I play it is becoming less and less of an issue though, just a few of the secret puzzles in the first rupture farms zone.

I love the Oddworld writing style. Best part of my job, and I wish it came up more often.

We did try to have more options available when it comes to solving problems, especially in the early game, and brute forcing through them with a possessed Slig is a pretty enjoyable option. We definitely removed at least one suppressor to allow that, but my brain can't remember anything right now. If you can describe which secrets, I can take a look.

Nope, just standard GeForce drivers. As for the make the monitor says "HP w1907"

I might capture some video of a second play through and show off what I mean, for now though I'm just gonna keep enjoying the game, paramonia has been awesome. Thanks for all the help wil.

Phylum 02-26-2015 08:25 PM

Can also confirm black borders at the top and bottom at 1680x1050.

e: Might need to look at it in a new tab if you're using Industrial.

e2: Actually read the last few posts - am using GeForce drivers too. Will confirm version later.

Shade667 02-26-2015 11:50 PM

You could just ask me about possessing sligs from outside of their range. We do that several times in the game.
I feel like ur referring to this first slig (Its like 2 seconds in, so u dont have to watch the whole thing)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85KzphH5t8Q

Edit: I dunno how spoilers work here. I thought it covered up the words lol.
Thought Id add it since anyone who didnt read it stumbled upon it sees it and it shows off pretty much everything in the game, besides story. Nate or whoever can edit it to their liking if it breaks any rules.

Job McYossie 02-27-2015 12:02 AM

That first slig trick thing you did I have no problem with because that's not something you'd just accidentally do.

I cant really think of anything else in rupture farms that isnt intended.

Hi.

I think the Against All Odds achievement is bugged. I have the 35 other achievements but I didn't unlock this one.

Anyway, excellent port, really. I just have the problem with the slow cutscenes, like others players, but apart from that, it run perfectly fine ! Thanks Jaw and Owi for this game !

OWI_Alex 02-27-2015 10:05 AM

Hi all.

Patch 1.01 out - http://www.oddworld.com/2015/02/patc...n-tasty-on-pc/

Manco 02-27-2015 10:23 AM

Just in time for me to play Alf’s Escape.

That was hella quick by the way, well done.

STM 02-27-2015 11:18 AM

Soooo need to play. :(

Abeguy 02-27-2015 01:36 PM

Would love to hop on this train, but it would appear that while my 360 controller works for the menus, it is not working for the gameplay. Any tips?

Manco 02-27-2015 01:57 PM

Switch to Gamepad controls in the Settings menu?

Abeguy 02-27-2015 02:10 PM

Wow, that didn't even stick out as something I could click on, it just looked like a title. I do feel a bit silly, but not that much. If there's an open forum type discussion on feedback, I'd suggest making that slight alteration.

Edit: I'm noticing that the button layout is not accurate for my Xbox 360 controller. The top button says jump, but shows my health, while the A button is doing the jumping. Really jarring for my motor memory. Any customization?

I'm playing at 1680x1050 too, using Nvidia drivers, and I've got black borders.

Abeguy 02-27-2015 05:33 PM

2560x1440, no black bars here.

Vyrien 02-27-2015 06:58 PM

I keep checking my health instead of jumping.

I'm in bloody Free Fire Zone and I'm still doing this. I'm playing on hard as well.

That's 14 years of muscle memory I've got to try and undo you absolute buggers.

Phylum 02-27-2015 07:11 PM

I keep accidentally hoisting on elevators, and there's always a few seconds of flailing before I remember how we have to throw things now.

Vyrien 02-27-2015 07:13 PM

Best thing is when I just drop a grenade at my feet like some kind of spaz then Abe stands there whilst I spam check health to try and get away from it.

Abeguy 02-27-2015 09:50 PM

Edit : spoilers about how much bloom this game has or something.

Is anyone having trouble with quick saving?

I'm selecting quick save, the mudokon head pops up in the lower right corner and it makes the noise, but when I die it doesn't take me back there. It takes me back to the last check point before I quick saved.

Could it be something in settings I'm overlooking?
