I'm going to start a Diablo 3 thread. I think there's more than enough scope for discussion for it to deserve one.

EDIT: Here.

sheridanm962 05-19-2012 07:32 AM

Been playing some SuperTux and SuperTuxKart (rip offs of Super Mario COUGH!) :tard:

Wilber from Gimp Image editor is in Super Tux Kart and so is Mozilla Dinosaur and of course Tux the Penguin and a few others.

Strike Witch 05-19-2012 11:14 PM

Joe got me Overlord as a gift on steam.

It's a really fun game, though it occasionally has finnicky controls.

MeechMunchie 05-20-2012 06:06 AM

I played the beta of yet another pretentious art game; Hazard: The Journey of Life (now retitled Antichamber for various reasons).

Firstly, it's white. Very, very white. I had to turn the brightness down on my monitor for the sake of my retinae.
Secondly, it's got one of those funky non-Eucledian things going on - corridors that lead into themselves, rooms that are bigger on the inside, multiple rooms occupying the same space depending on the angle you look at them from, invisible surfaces, corridors that lead somwhere other than the place you came from if you turn back, dissolving walls etc.
Thirdly, it doesn't make any secret of the metaphors it uses - what each puzzle represents is plainly stated afterwards, plus a funny cartoon.
Fourthly, It messes with game structure in entertaining ways - the concepts of level progression, timed challenges, narrative instruction etc.

Example: One path locks behind you, and going forwards leads straight to the end of the game. "Some decisions bring us to the end of our journey sooner than we'd like." placates the philosophical poster, accompanied by a cartoon of a man stepping in front of an oncoming car.

Crashpunk 05-20-2012 06:44 AM

Just beat Ocarina of Time. The last boss was fucking epic.

I have been wanting that game ever since I saw a video of it. It looks like the kind of thing I'd really enjoy.

But, yeah. Very white.

I didn't like that game. Then again, the only Linux game I liked was Typhoon 2001, but only because it was a clone of the amazing Tempest 2000.

How did you get on the beta?

MeechMunchie 05-21-2012 08:24 AM

They've taken the beta demo off of the official site now, but you can still find it on other sites if you search for it under the old title.

Strike Witch 05-21-2012 04:23 PM

Oh, I would love to try that.

'sup 1998. But seriously, the Ganon/dorf fight is one of my favourite boss battles of all time. The scale. The majesty. The epicness. Just an all around brilliant game ender.

jumper 05-21-2012 10:45 PM

Are you including the tower escape as part of the final boss? I hated that, it seemed so forced. But otherwise, yeah, great final boss.

Mr. Bungle 05-21-2012 10:51 PM

Yeah. I thought it was fun, and showed off some of the graphical capabilities of the N64.

So, you were shit at it huh?

Nate 05-22-2012 05:36 AM

Just started playing Botanicula last night. It's really very sweet and I love the visual design.

Daxter King 05-22-2012 09:23 AM

I rented and then bought Max Payne 3. Game is crazy fun and the presentation phenomenal. There is a definite challenge to the campaign, but it rarely ever gets frustrating. I recommend it to anyone that enjoys shooters.

Dynamithix 05-22-2012 12:21 PM

My friend bought Minecraft and made a server and convinced me to play it with him. We played for 3 hours and made a cool house (and are still improving it) and found a bunch of iron. Minecraft is fun for the first time in many months for me, yay.

That bit was easy. I did it with like 50 seconds to spare.

Actually to be honest the whole boss fight was pretty easy, I only died a few times at the start because I had no idea what to do when you forght Ganondorf, once I figured it out, it wasn't too hard. Ganon was tough though, but I managed to do it without too much trouble.

I found Phantom Ganondorf at the end of the Forest Temple the most difficult boss in the game.

It has yet to get old for me. Then again I'm playing on xbox 360 which helps as I've never been able to get comfortable enough for extended periods of pc gaming. Looking forward to the game updating though.

Dynamithix 05-22-2012 08:53 PM

Well it just came out for the Xbox, I played it pretty much continuously for like 6 months in 2010 - 2011. After that it just got boring.

Oh, yeah it was easy. Just pretty tedious.

If I remember correctly, I found Bongo Bongo the most difficult boss. I know one of my mates struggled with Twinrova for a while.

I started playing it a week or so ago, but became side-tracked by revision. I'll probably try to get a bit further during a break today.

Crashpunk 05-22-2012 10:57 PM

Bongo Bongo? really? I found that guy really easy. Just shoot arrows at his hands then his eye then strike at the right moment. Pretty simple.

Mudokon_Master 05-22-2012 11:22 PM

I recently found myself playing Terraria. It's actually a really good game imo. I find it like a 2D Minecraft. That's also what it's usually described as by fans. I guess Minecraft created a genre of games by itself.
Collect wood, find a light source, build a shelter before night, kill zombies and mine.
Terraria is much more detailed than Minecraft though with boss battles, buffs, upgrades and music. And the creators executed it so well. If Minecraft became overly complicated like that, (which is the way I expect it's going), it wouldn't be very fun.
Terraria is though.

Still playing Skyrim.

75 hours dedicated so far, only questline complete is the main story. Currently on my way to the Dark Brotherhood sanctuary.

225 locations discovered and explored.

Hurr

I don't like to brag but... 370 hours, level 81. To be honest I don't think thats anything to brag about, more to be ashamed of.

I played Max Payne 3 last night for the first time. Absolutely brilliant, but really hard! Rockstar have never made a shit game, ever.

Nope. Minecraft got its idea from another game like it. In fact there were loads of games like that before it. Minecraft is just the most popular.

Ah, I wasn't aware of this. Anyway, I think the genre finds its addictiveness in its simplicity. It's quite strange how repeatedly doing 3 things can provide hours and hours of gameplay.

Nepsotic 05-23-2012 03:06 AM

I don't like it.

That's nice.

Nepsotic 05-23-2012 04:18 AM

No, I'm just saying. Its a big thing now and everybody's going on about it. I think I'm the only person here who doesn't like it.

Wings of Fire 05-23-2012 04:23 AM

How special must you feel!

Crashpunk 05-23-2012 05:37 AM

I've got to be honest I didn't like Terraria. The concept is pretty cool but I just found it confusing.

Varrok 05-23-2012 06:16 AM

It's more fun playing MP Terraria than SP Terraria imo

Crashpunk 05-24-2012 01:39 AM

Never tried it. Also that applys to Minecraft in my opinion.

Mudokon_Master 05-24-2012 01:41 AM

It's just that, by chance, I like Minecraft and 8-bit scrolling platformers and boss battles. That makes Terraria my ideal game. So it's more of a personal reason why I find it so good. I can't really explain it.

Varrok 05-24-2012 02:23 AM

You've just explained it. You like Minecraft and 8-bit scrolling platformers, you also say you like boss battles. Terraria does all that stuff well, so, IMO these are good reasons to like it.

sheridanm962 05-24-2012 02:36 AM

Bought Munch's Oddysee recently, it's an awesome game... Maybe Munch's Exoddus would be great... When it exists :tard:

Nepsotic 05-24-2012 04:58 AM

There should be a seperate forum for Munch's Oddysee. They're different people.

Mr. Bungle 05-24-2012 07:51 AM

I still like Munch. It has some (major) flaws but it certainly isn't unlikable. I still enjoy playing it every now and then.

But compared to Exodus or Oddysee.... yeah. It's shit.

Crashpunk 05-24-2012 11:16 AM

Agreed, I enjoyed MO, It's just it could of been a lot better.

And I'm still playing Fallout: New Vegas. Almost level 20 now and I'm currently helping out the Brotherhood of Steel.

Daxter King 05-24-2012 10:46 PM

So I'm pretty much in love with Max Payne 3. It's the perfect blend of great gameplay and a phenomenal story telling. Those Uncharted games? Fuck those games, they're cinematic shit. MP3 shows everybody how it's done. You're always in complete control during gameplay and the story is still strong. Cut scenes and gameplay seamlessly shift and it's nothing short of amazing during those awesome moments where you can tell shit is about to go down in a cut scene and the game just throws you into the situation to chomp some pain killers and kick some ass. Also, the graphics are like, the best.
